    The meaning of SW:TOR

S: Developers W: Dont T: Listen O: To R: Their player base I think that fits, yes, it does!
  2. I did consider making a power point out of it but I think enough effort was put into the forum post It's not like im being paid to do this.
  3. If only Ilum had that music, I think it would be fun!
  4. Complacency and overconfidence are my thoughts on that problem. Ivory Tower syndrome is rife.
  5. An RvR addition wouldn't sound like an MMO? Who are these people?! The one thing companies seem to not understand is that a huge amount of people have been playing MMO's far longer than they have been working on them and it just saddens me that they don't listen, a pool of such untapped wealth and information. Apparently they had focus groups during design or pre-release and I have been assured they were from multiple areas of the MMO world. I've actually had to turn to playing other games whilst playing this to continue playing or I would simply turn into a complete rage monster out of frustration at the visibility of such potential. Dear James, This is directly to you. This is a change players want in the game - which has been shown through this thread more than enough by now.
  6. This has, without a doubt, been the fastest growing (positive) thread I have seen on these forums - and I lurk them very often
  7. It would work like this... [REP BASE][R1][R2][R3][R4][i4][i3][i2][i1][iMP BASE] In theory if both planets are taken over at the same time then the following could happen. [REP BASE][R1][R2][R3][R4][i4][i3][i2][i1][iMP BASE] If this happened then the next time the planets go up then they will still be the same planets due to supply lines being cut. To take planets you need a direct supply line. [REP BASE][R1][R2][R3][R4][i4][i3][i2][i1][iMP BASE] So when the planets go up again the following could happen. [REP BASE][R1][R2][R3][R4][i4][i3][i2][i1][iMP BASE] or [REP BASE][R1][R2][R3][R4][i4][i3][i2][i1][iMP BASE] If there is no change then the same planets go up again.
  8. Nearly at 40 pages, lets keep it going guys.
  9. Really good responses guys! Keep up the good work.
  10. Both David Bass and Stephen Reid are fully aware of this thread. Lets see what happens.
  11. One of the fastest growing PvP threads i've seen guys, especially with the amount of support and positivity its receiving. Lets keep it going!
  12. Do you have anything to backup those statements? Considering the recent nerfs to particular classes, experience from other games, having GM'd and being in contact with people in the field I know that what you are saying is far from the entire truth. It may be the case for Bioware and EA, I am not going to say yet since I haven't received any response of them however I know that companies like CCP, arenanet and XLGames aren't like this. CCP have the CSM, arenanet have focus groups, XLGames are currently in contact with various western groups over ArcheAge. I see your point however things aren't as black and white as you think they may seem, grey is everywhere
  13. http://ewqewq.net/newilum.jpg If you look at that picture you can see where the lines will be initially drawn. The two planets side by side in the middle is where the first fight will take place. Then you can only attack an adjoining planet (adjoined by lines). When planets become vulnerable at least one base must go up to be faught over. The minimum number of bases per planet will have to be 3 in order to ensure there are no stalemates (and one base is boring). If one side owns two bases then the planet flips to their ownership. If they continue to hold that planet for a long time (and it is still on the vulnerability border) then there is a high chance that both bases will go up at the same time. Thats a perfectly fine idea. If for example in the middle of the above picture where the two planets meet, the Imperials attack planet 1 and republic attack planet two and both succeed in capturing them both planets will be cut off from their "supply line" (the line joining planets) thus meaning they will not be able to push forward onto any more planets but will only be able to go backwards and try to re-establish their supply line. No fight will be the same, every fight will be different having different numbers involved, platforms, and so on. Plus fights like these are huge adrenaline rushes especially when you are almost at your objective. Fights Like these should be do-able in SWTOR however I have not seen one good OwPvP fight that has lasted more than 10min yet.
  14. So what solution would you suggest? Where would they get the information from that they require in order to see where the players want this game to go? Their metrics are very limited and almost useless in terms of what players enjoy due to the limited scope of gameplay. I don't enjoy PvE very much however I have had to do it in order to keep myself active. Some players hate warzones however they do them because there is very little else to do. I hope you see this point. Finally why do you post on these forums if you believe as you do, that anything you post is of little to no consequence and retains no value?
  15. The entire change is quite large, I agree, new planets, new bases, and everything on top of it. The changes to Ilum alone are relatively easy to implement, as someone else has said, the hard part is when it comes to QA'ing the entire thing. Considering I discussed those changes with a designer from Blizzard and someone who develops for Apple I am inclined to agree with their opinion in terms of programming it into the game which would be relatively easy, fixing the geofence to generate checks every second or so in order to ensure people can't leave with any buff will be more intensive on infrastructure than programming. Generating the buff alone is easy to do and those mechanics are already in the game. The mechanics to make bases flip from one owner to another is also in the game from the turrets in the Alderaan warzone. Implementing the programming for a logo to appear on the galaxy map over Ilum with either Republic or Empire is also very simple to do in programming terms. The biggest part of this process is the Quality Assurance and testing of it in its entirety. Sadly this is why the state of the MMO market is how it is, luckily some companies are switching on to this and are listening to their players more, CCP for example. I am very sorry you have this jaded approach to the MMO industry, while there are some bad applies in it there are also some very good companies that actually have the best interests of the game at heart and aren't against doing something innovative. Their focus is on retaining their current base, if you know anything about retentions then you will know retaining current players is far easier and more cost effective than trying to get new people to subscribe, if everyone posted in this thread then you can bet they would change course instantly or face suicide. The MMO industry seem to be very much everything or nothing and you do touch on some very important issues however you are not in a better position than I am to say what is what could be and what can be Your post is appreciated.
  16. Its ArcheAge actually - Looking at it now it does have a resemblance! To those who say it will take a long time and is a huge undertaking. To impliment this on just Ilum for now would take a fraction of that time and much lower costs. Adding the rest into the game when it is done would be absolutely fine and dandy however the game needs something new added and soon! (Please note that the front page time frames were only as a guide to Ilum only and the bare bones of this system without the entire planetary conflict system, simply base capture, aoe platforms and the balance mechanic in their most basic forms.)
  17. Very well written and truthful post. Sorc/Sage is simply a sustained DPS class.
  18. Thats actually a very good way to put it bab! I am proud of you
  19. It hasnt been brought up yet and its a valid point, it can be easily off-set by making the "area" where these battles occur separate from main PvE areas, other options could include instancing off the PvE areas, making it so that only space combat will occur around those planets thus not interrupting new players and I'm sure there are some very smart people out there who could come up with some other interesting ideas
  20. While implementing the idea in its entirety would indeed take quite some time and effort to do, changing Ilum to this system would not take very much time at all. The problem would be that development cost is small compared to redesign cost however I am pretty sure they could have a working system up and running inside of a month that may not incorporate everything stated in this design but would involve a "balancer" and "flip mechanic". The development is not the problem as its not hard to do, the longest part of the process would be the QA. Note: While I myself have a grasp on some of these things I am in contact with people who have a working knowledge that makes what I know look insignificant - However none of this should be taken as gospel or can be backed up with numbers in terms of staff at Bioware Austin, just reliable guestimates
  21. There is no idea in creation that couldn't be improved upon. For example, instead of the health buff expertise could be used in a way that would do exactly the same job (countering one sided faction balance) with a mechanic already in the game. There is plenty to be improved upon but the point is, this is an improvement over the current system in place by far, MMO's should never stop trying to improve themselves and be happy with the status quo
  22. You can blame Kebab, as per usual, for such off-topicness. Keep supporting the idea guys! Lets see if we can get some response to this.
