  1. I don`t care for pets in TOR at all, when I played wow I had all but the hardest to get achievement for pets and mounts. I cant pinpoint the reason why I don`t care for them at all in TOR, but I don`t think naming them would make it count. I have not tried the new battle system in wow with pets, I will probably try it if I ever play any wow again. I was a vivid pet collector long before the achievements came. I don`t think I have grown up much since then.
  2. Remove the ability to change specs, in WZ/FP/OPS and in combat, then implement this, and also make it save UI, keybindings and quickbars. Its only logical (sorry for the ST quote, haters gonna hate)
  3. 1) Yes or No to Cathar being the new race? I would very much enjoy Cathar as a playable race, its not the race I would pick but yes I accept. 2) If Yes, why? If No, why not? Why? cause I want more races, and Cathars are fine. You take up wow and pandas, I won't be playing that expansion, but Pandas are big in lore in Warcraft, and they should have been there from the start, demographics aside. 3) If Yes, Species you would also like to see, if any? If No, Species you would rather see, if any? I would like to see Wookiees, but I would hate to listen to the horrible moans all day playing as them. Also I think the Cathars will be exclusive to the republic (with the ability to unlock them for every class). So I guess a potential second playable race will be something which would be natural to make only available to the empire. 4) Do you feel Cathar are too Republic aligned to fit well as a section for the Empire? yes, but only until you reach level 50 with a cathar or unlock it in the cartel shop 5) Do you feel Cathar like most already implemented species resemble humans to greatly? No comment, cause it fits the lore. 6) Addition Pro/Cons towards or against Cathar? Pro: good race to implement Con: There are probably more called for races that would be better to implement, but i am content with cathars
  4. Yes Mandalorian Iron is probably the most light-saber resistant material known to man. Its extremely expensive because its so damn rare, and if everyone would go about in mandalorian iron in the old republic it would very much ruin the well established lore of both the movies and KOTOR. If I'm not mistaking, Jango and Bobba Fets armor, which are inherited from one to the other in the movie series and recolored, is in fact mandalorian iron. Jango was after all one of the last "True" mandalorians. Also, some other materials are somewhat lightsaber resistant.
  5. Just cause wookies didn't use christmas lights, does not mean that the fleet's and people living and working there should not. I mean do you really know how much Christmas has changed? I mean the only reason we even call it Christmas today is that the roman church re-branded it to Jesus day because they didn't want their various conquered subjects to celebrate their various mid-winter holidays. Here in Scandinavia we still call it Jul (translated Yule to English), which comes from the old word Juleblot, which was a celebration Odin the sun god regained his strengths, didn't die and made the days longer again. I like Life Day in star wars, let me keep it in the old republic, and sure just let us have our Christmas lights as well thank you BioWare.
  6. Don't use the PVP flag for this, just that the bubble would do less being attacked by a player. They already do this with the taunt abilities, as they do different effects on players than on mobs. I don't see this happening, though, i might support it if its done right.
  7. +1 for both cosmetic class name changes and animations, for both light/dark or neutral. and maybe quests to gain "a pack" of animation changes. Example an evil trooper could do a jetpack quest to change animations to the BH only animations, those animations who are governed by a jetpack. And one quest for a flamethrower with similar fashion. For the inquisitor he would have a quest of focus and meditation to switch out the lightning based animation to the projection based once. The agent could do some gambling quests to change his class name, while the Bounty Hunter would have a quest to join the imperial trooper squad. Hunters class names could change to Imperial Powertech, idk about mercenary as they are basically defined as military units without nation or political agenda.
  8. I totally and massively disagree with all of my body. It would bug me even more if they did any of this. If it bugs you the proximity of the NPC's attack at, just think in your head that the world is scaled down, for you (the real life gamer) to enjoy it better, and that your character perceives it as much further. This matches the time you take to walk to places and such too. The items are not magical, my clothes totally change my willpower, try to do something productive while wearing cozy pants i dear you. (okay its possible, but you get my point) Tech, try to use your phone with gloves, special gloves that give Cunning is used. As well as a utility belt gives cunning. Belts and chest pieces to strengthen your back, UPS guys use those, and people participating in strongman competitions. ALSO MOST IMPORTANTLY: BioWare should not be allowed to make significant changes to the lore in such a manner that the universe as we know it will change making the movies unbearable. They have already integrated KOTOR lore with Movie lore by giving out The Book of Sith showing palpatine studied Revan and such. So there is no way to make this un cannon in my mind now. There is however ways to make some elements hold force power, Kyle Katarn killed off some "Reborns" who used force fueled crystals to manipulate the force even without being force sensitive (at least not much) them self. This happened after the movies. Hope Kyle has an appearance in the upcoming SW movie
  9. Well, I actually suck at this game, but 1M credits is just 5 days of dailies for me, and thus far I have just done Black Hole and Domination outpost... For the heroic missions, I just ask for help, a few times when I do the non heroic's. I say in general "LFG Heroic dailies" a few times, and get an invite. I support next to everything OP says in the first post. This is a very good concept. I think it should be very hard to do, and if you want help you can only have help from other people doing this as well. As for companions not wanting to change, put on a slave collar on some of them would be a good option. The Troopers robot you switch out as part of the troopers quest to change sides, reverse engineering it maybe.
  10. They already confirmed one playable race for the next expansion, Cathar. Surly there will be one more for the other side. Source:
  11. Which SWTOR are you playing? I basically said one sentence in the general chat, and got a new friend which I Skype with. Also, yesterday I said in General: "Anyone want to speed run this planet?" and later, we were on our way of that lousy rock, and he added all my chars to his chars friends list.
  12. Oh the horror listening to "HUAHHHHH, HAAAHHHHHH, GHRAHHH, ORHHHH" while playing as a Wookiee. I'd sooner become so sick of that noise that I'd just skip all dialogue. I'm not against being able to have a non-stereotypish Wookie Bounty Hunter, but I'm already inclined to more often skip alien dialogues as it is. Think this is the biggest stopper for my long wanted Moobacca character
  13. After the F2P, General (especially in the fleet) is often flooded with Polish, Russian, and all other languages I don't understand, and have no intention to learn. I know F2P'ers have limited chat support, but some of them chat a little and others follow their example. So it hit me, I don't see other language servers coming any time soon, so why not make officially sanctioned other language general chats. Everyone is connected to the English (or language dependent on the server), and you add some auto join to Russian, or Polish and what not languages that are most common. So people who opt in to auto join these channels can do /1 for the main general, and /2 for their language's general. I am sure you have some easy way to get up some statistics showing player base compared to how comfortable they are speaking English. Pilot the languages who need it most, and extend if it is a success
  14. I agree, I lost names too. This wont actually fix the damage done, but hey prevent it from happening again
  15. There are so many mods i would make if you guys made support for it. buttons to send specific companions on specific missions progress bars for different medals in WZ random mount random pet Button to use the highest level medpac in your inventory Life and mana, heads up display pizza timer (also work as aprox timer for crewskills on different characters)
  16. Prelude: So a lot of games support In game addons, and they help improve gameplay and skill. Yes I know people say addons don't improve skill, but lets be reasonable, they do. Especially InGame DPS meters, or even something that displays your progress towards specific medals in WZ. I'm not a pro developer, but I have used lots of different languages before including, C, Objective-C, C#, Java, HTML, Ruby, Basic and more. And I therefor have some ideas to make the hurdles of implementing such a massive feature easier, and even make it less massive of a hurdle. The Idea: The most basic simplification of my idea is to provide a see-through click through HTML overlay and give it local PHP ability. Why: Doing this allows you to have a low cost, low maintenance, hard to hack, very controllable(for you), easy to learn solution. You can break apart the project into milestones, not a lot of developers are needed to make this, and they will inform the rest of the engine makers small changes that they will need to do to optimize this solution. Lots of people know HTML and PHP, its easy to learn, and there are already great tools that would give power to the Addon Developers without infringing on your control. You can control any data that is going to be available to the PHP engine to fetch. And commands that will be accepted back like the usage of a skill, or a Item name and so on can be also tightly controlled. Why at all release in game addons? Very simple answer, you are basically outsourcing lots of work for free on the game to your community, letting those who are most passionate about it give the best result in improving your game. You are then fully able to steal the ideas, for free, implement what you want, and let the odd people out get a good time too. What about preventing automation? This is also possible, I have a few concepts for this in my head, but your web developers should be able to come up with good solutions for this. The way WoW which uses LUA does this, is to only accept commands to do something in the actual game to real life human key presses or button clicks. If you don't limit this, I will surely make a good bot for my self Examples, automated slicing and opening of credit cases during regular game play, or a PVP bot that lets me run around by hand and does my rotation or CC by automated processes. Why am I enlightening you about such? Because prevention is not that hard. Getting outside information, it will also happen if you don't prevent this. If you don't prevent this, you will both have negative and positive repercussions. I hope you see the positive outweigh the negative, but if you must block it. I want ingame access to teamspeak or skype, In game web-browsers and much more, think about watching youtube while you grind, and it can pause in conversations COOL!!! What will happen you might not like? * Data mining - My answer, suck it up! Common its happening as we speak in a less quality way anyhow. * People making ideas so good you are embarrassed - My answer, that you will also be proud. * More? How: Go by a milestone plan where you release it at every milestone. You don't need everything for the initial release. Milestone 1: *WEB overlay, cheap way would be to use Mozillas Geko engine, or Apples Web-kit engine, they are both open source, free and widely used. You wont need to disclose any game source. *PHP server, start here http://php.net/ *Skip the notion of accepting commands for the first release, take your time and do automation prevention in a proper way first. *A set of information which is accessible (not everything is needed for first release, combat information, character information, and chat box is first in line. Milestone 2: * commands in * more Milestone 3: *Eventually porting the whole UI inside your addon system, allowing for awesomeness for your self and addon devs. * More --------------------------------------- Okay I just got bored writing for now, If i have more Ideas Ill update this thread
  17. I am currently leveling a vanguard. I am tank specced, and I am often one of the 3 top damage dealers in war-zones. In PvE I have the first companion (least spoily way to say it) which is the companion type of: I never go under 7 Ammo, if I am close I use the no ammo cost spammable ability, once (or very few times twice). This is cause Ammo regenerates the fastest over 7 Ammo, and this exploits that property. I very seldom die in PvE, because of the tank specced, and my companion does decent DPS, maybe just a little under me. Vanguard Tank spec play is very melee, and you do much more damage melee than else. I have one melee ability I use often, and most of my rotation has very short range. I don't think I can optimize my rotation for single targets can be improved, maybe later levels with more skills. For AOE I usually depleet my ammo more, as I have not optimized my rotation for this. But I kill off single targets quick enough that its not a problem yet.
  18. I level with a mix of PVP and PVE, and these are my thoughts and what I have learned. while leveling in pugs, there are often few healers, which are very shy. Its hard to look at them in before the match starts who heals, and no one talks in chat if your team don't give good results or bad results. I'm leveling as a Tank, Vanguard. This also counts for Powertech, but I don't know the names off the mirror abilities (I'm a noob after all) I put Guard on a seamingly deserving target, somone who looks like they are going to get a beating, or someone who looks like they are going to be healing. I change to better target later (I bound Shift+Tab to friendly target). This will redirect some damage from them to you and you get medals for this, only works within 15m proximity of the Guarded target. This requires Ion Cell. Remember to turn of Guard if you are carrying the Hut Ball, or even Guard the Hutt Ball carrier. I have both Neural Jolt and Sonic Rond both on mouse buttons, and use them when they are not on cooldown. These are basically DPS debuffs and you get medals for the damage they reduce. I also have Hammer Shot when clicked on scroll wheel. This is cause I use Ion Pulse (2 on action bar) as my spammable ability. But due to the way you regenerate ammo, you only want to be using ammo consuming skills while you have max >>>> on your ammo bar. I needed Hammer Shot a place where it would be compelling to use it, its still number 6 on the action bar as well. This will increase DPS as I am a tank class and spec, and need it. I try to team up with a healer or a DPS, and guard him/her. I try to joine queue with someone that I intend to roll with in the WZ. I guard this person, stun and CC people when they attack him. Just try to be annoying. If they attack him they might kill him, but if they attack you your friend will kill them. Me and a DPS friend can sometimes take down groups ranging from 2 to 4 people alone. We try to focus fire on one person at the time. I defend objectives a lot. You get defender points and you are built for this anyway. I AOE when people are trying to take the objective. In Hutt Ball, I Harpoon the ball carrier, into acid or flames. Maybe even Cryo Grenade them as a combo. I also do this to persons in groups to get them out of the group so I can do a Solo Kill (own medal). With the harpoon and acid I jump out in the acid, harpoon and jump back out, facing in towards the acid. This will nearly not do damage to you, but will make them spend a relatively much longer time in the acid. In Hutt Ball I also rely on Storm more than in other games. It's always useful, but do not leave people behind charing into a group of enemies. Use it also as a CC. In Hutt Ball its obviously used to cross obstacles. You can jump past acid, flames, or even get to the floor above you. If you are very lucky with the PUG (I always PUG thus far), you can even run with the ball down on the floor under all obsticles and Storm up the ledge and deliver the ball. This can become a viable tactic for me when I improve my skill, but for now I just use it if I get pushed down and have the chance. Remember to pass the Hut Ball, you get medals for this. And its good for the game if you pass it to someone who are not being killed, or are much further across obstacles than you. I have this bound to a mouse button. VIABLE FOR ALL CLASSES!!: I have the second bar below my first bar key mapped to Shift + 1,2,3,4 and so on. I have the skills i use most at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (my hands say stop there for power use) and the once I use second most on Shift + 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
  19. +1 This is why I chose him and not that Imp scum defector. How do I know she's not a spy? How do I know she wont defect again? Its the same as I don't go for women who have a relationship, if they would leave him for me, they could leave me for the next guy down the road.
  20. This is how I did it. Wrapped it in a spoiler flag just in case even though the title of the thread reeks of here be spoilers.
  21. I am also waiting for this. I know there are just one of each kind of server for each language now, but I'm on PVP and most all my friends are on RPPVP. I'd not mind to pay to move all my Characters which has unlocks in my Legacy to that server.
  22. The rapid increase in Mac sales and users beg to differ. This summer they got over 12% 1 in 10 is not a microscopic market, and they are above that. Since it is the OS that counts when comparing this because of a games customers, you would need to count it this way, if else it would be much more fair to compare Apple's market share to single manufacturers of PC in which they are only beaten by Dell and HP. Also the other four on the top 5 list are loosing marked share, Apple is gaining. Source: Gartner
  23. AFAIK the hero engine had some Mac support in the Pipeline, though it might have been dropped. SWTOR has some things that ain't good in a POSIX environment, related to disk read / write and such, they would need to change this first, but I cant imagine changing that would be a huge job for BioWare anyway, and it would also benefit windows making swtor more efficient. Heck after they change that, they can even make a Cider port. EDIT: BTW, the disk writing is related to a syscal that is very old, changing to a newer much more modern syscal. This old syscall is supported in POSIX environment such as Mac and Linux, but I do still think changing it is a must for a feasible port anyway. SWTOR writes and reads way to often on disk also, they should make that more efficient too. I am holding back installing it on an SSD cause of that, still would be nice to have it on my SSD for the same reason.
  24. Yes I do not see how this applies. After all iOS is the fastest growing gaming platform right now, and it is just a stripped down OS X. It has so much in common looking from a programming perspective, porting games from iOS to OS X is a walk in the park. The other way around however has the difficulties that some parts of the OS are missing or restricted, and also an iPhone or iPad is not as powerful as even an older Mac. That aside, what are your specs, maybe you also can have a pleasant time gaming with Parallels as I do. After all you still have Boot Camp for when running FP and such.
  25. I play on my MacBook Pro and it plays really well for me. I can tell you about my setup. I have the late 2011, MBP 13" I have a really neat software setup for this. I installed Windows in Boot Camp, and also installed Parallels Desktop 8. In Parallels I chose to "Use Boot Camp Partition" which set up a virtual computer which had access to the full disk and seamlessly boots up Windows. Then if I want full performance, I just reboot holding Alt and I can chose to boot the exact same Windows up natively. I can even run Star Wars in Parallels, no problem, It has slightly longer loading times, and I get no lag if I reduce graphics, I am able to pull off having some graphics settings on high while running it in Parallels but I don't care for the chance of being interrupted so when I play in Parallels I set all to low. When I game with friends or intend on playing for a longer while I boot up natively Windows, and set the graphics to fairly high. I don't have on shadows and don't max out anti aliasing . What I intend to write next time I am bored is a small little script which changes the settings before boot, so I can have a preset for Parallels or for Native. Since I don't like much programming for Windows I will just make a script file with choices. If It was in Mac or Linux Id have fun making a cool GUI and stuff, but I cant be asked to set up another programming environment just for that, since I don't have one set up for Windows GUI and don't intend to do any Windows work. It will just have two preference files saved, one for each setup with names like "parallel_settings" or "bootcamp_settings" and just copy and overwrite the settings file. No problem The only problems I have at all are few and far between, and are almost always related to me adopting to Windows 8 instead of just staying with Win7. I have some mouse Issues which are not related to Win8, in Paralles I need to turn off Smart Mouse, so that the mouse does not seamlessly switch between OS's when I swipe between them, needs an extra click. In Boot Camp the Touchpad's right click does not work in game, however good it works outside game, using an external mouse is almost a must anyway for this game. I do however have lots of problems With Win8 that did not occur in Win7. BlueScreens, game crashes, launcher hangs, launcher play button some times grey, the task bar forcing it self over the game, and some other issues. Hope they get worked out in updates from MicroSoft and from BioWare.
