  1. I wouldn't mind that either, although I suspect many people who are opposing the idea of an XP toggle would prefer seeing potential gains vanish into the void before allowing them to actually be funneled somewhere more productive. Suddenly we're turning it into an option some players can freely ignore to one they'll feel obligated to participate in, which isn't my intention.
  2. I edited the original post, replacing the word "most" with "many". I don't consider many MMOs to be mainstream (or were in their day). Of the ones I do, most of them offer this option. There have been, what, 6 or more listed in this thread so far. You're going to have to find something new to nitpick now, I guess.
  3. I underlined the incorrect statement in your post. It was actually twink concerns for battlegrounds that held up the feature so long. I'm avoiding dailies, avoiding doing flashpoints more than once, avoiding doing any kind of space combat and PvP at all because I can't afford to level any quicker than I already am. How is that not missing out on content? I would like to be able to enjoy space missions and PvP. I can't because I am already 6 levels ahead of my mission content. I'm trying not to create an even bigger gap than already exists.
  4. Twinking is already possible in this game thanks to orange customizable gear and mod crafting. An xp-toggle doesn't change anything there.
  5. Considering the amount of threads on this forum complaining that the leveling speed is too fast, I think many people would appreciate an option to temporarily disable XP gains.
  6. This is incorrect. WoW allows you to turn off XP gains altogether. Even City of Heroes offers it.
  7. I'm not sure where you ever got the idea that someone is complaining about not being able to do gray quests. Did you actually read the first post before coming in to post a trolling comment over a feature request that would have zero impact on you?
  8. Save for the additional XP gains I would make exploring the areas and fighting the mobs guarding the nodes? I think you missed the point.
  9. Facerolling content is boring. I covered this in the first post. I want to be around the same level as the content so that each fight is at least somewhat challenging.
  10. Sounds like an issue that has to be fixed regardless of whether an XP-toggle is introduced or not. Twinking an alt is simply a matter of having a higher level crafting character, and you're going to face this problem one way or another unless they fix the core issue.
  11. I'll add this to the original post, as I forgot to mention some additional, but important problems which occur when you out-level content. It becomes very difficult to keep your crafting in sync with your level. You find that you don't have access to the crafting materials needed to make equipment appropriate for your level. In my case, this is because I'm literally 1-2 planets behind where I should be for my level, and the planets I'm currently questing on don't have the material nodes I need for the gear I want to make. It's also one of the reasons why some players are struggling with money while others aren't. I'm paying for skills and crafting training at my level while being rewarded with quest rewards that are 6+ levels below me. The money that is going out is much greater than the money coming in through natural progression. Imagine trying to save for level 25 speeder training on level 19 payouts. This situation becomes even worse if you attempt to fix the above crafting problem by sending your crew out on gathering missions (your only option outside the auction house in this case when the planet can't supply you with the correct nodes). An XP toggle would alleviate all of this.
  12. I underlined why you are not experiencing this problem. You are skipping quests.
  13. I'm sorry, but I believe your prediction is inaccurate and untrue. I point to all the other MMOs that offer an XP-toggle feature, which have plenty of players with plenty of alts running around as proof. If you have compelling classes, gameplay, and (in Bioware's case) storylines, people will make alts regardless of your concern.
  14. Not the answer. What you suggested: What I had already said: The feature I'm requesting allows you to continue to play the way you want, while also allowing me to play the way I want. That is the beauty of an optional feature.
  15. I'm missing out on huge chunks of this game because it lacks a very small but important feature: the option to temporarily toggle off XP gains. Many mainstream MMOs offer this option. SWToR doesn't. I'm simply leveling too fast. I get that some players enjoy this rapid leveling speed, and that's why I'm asking for a simple option to pace my gameplay more towards my personal liking rather than requesting an across the board cut to XP gains. Simply by doing class and general planetary missions, I am now (and have been since my second planet) 6+ levels ahead of the content. I'm now at a point where I'm usually fighting gray-con enemies and doing gray-con missions, which is likely the only thing that is keeping the situation from getting any worse. This is not only killing any sense of challenge and fun in my combat, but is also interfering with basic gameplay mechanics. It has been my observation that we are not awarded companion affection points for conversation choices made on a gray-con mission. As this fits the status of most of my missions and flashpoints lately, you can imagine my frustration every time I miss out on these opportunities. Despite desperately wanting to, I do not participate in PvP or space missions. I avoid grinding for crafting materials that are protected by mobs who aren't gray. I run Flashpoints and Heroics one time to sample the quest and then move on. The reason I'm forced to ignore many of these potential gameplay options is because I can't afford to level any faster than I already am. And yet, the simple addition of an option (one that has been made available in many other mainstream MMOs) to temporarily toggle off XP gains would greatly improve my gameplay experience. It would allow me to enjoy all the content the game offers without the risk of outpacing it. It would allow me to keep my quest levels closer to my character level, providing me with the means to prevent my gameplay from becoming completely non-challenging. Players that, for some strange reason, hate the idea of other players having *options* will rally against this request, likely under the ridiculous flag that players are stupid and will forget to ever toggle their XP switch back on (which is ludicrous, as I'm sure it will eventually dawn on anyone once they realize their opponents are slowly outleveling them). They may also voice their concerns about the risk of PvP twinking. This argument has never prevented an XP-toggle from being introduced into other MMOs in the past, nor is it even relevant in a game like SWToR which doesn't even offer PvP brackets in the 10-49 level range. They will suggest that people like myself simply avoid doing quests, which is completely not an option to someone that plays games like this FOR the questing and leveling experience. Please provide players with an option to toggle XP gains on and off. The lack of an ability to do this combined with the abundant methods of advancement and the huge XP rewards is literally ruining my desire to play this game. I've heard players request this feature before, but the nature of this feature really makes it one of those requests that should be fulfilled sooner rather than later (when you're level 50 with multiple alts and no longer need it). I just want to enjoy the game, and it's difficult to do that when one feels like they have to micro-manage every aspect of their leveling, to the point where I'm racing in and out of the fleet zones and cantinas to avoid gaining unwanted and unhelpful "rest XP". It is just ridiculous to be stuck in a position where that sort of behavior is necessary. EDIT: I forgot to mention some additional, but important problems which occur when you out-level content. 16. Not really an issue with the lack of brackets from 1-49. PvP twinking becomes pointless. Actually, it is the XP gains that have me avoiding PvP altogether too, for the same reason: out-leveling content too easily if I participate in extra activities like PvP and space combat. Someone above said space combat is pointless once you reach 50, which is sad to hear considering that's when I was looking forward to actually enjoying it without having to worry about XP gains.
  17. There must be a bug related to this. I've never heard my scoundrel laugh. And my friend's scoundrel has only ever laughed in one place in the entire game - the Athiss flashpoint. And her character was giggling *constantly* there. We assumed it had something to do with the storyline nature of the flashpoint. I mean, her character would just bust out a laugh while we were standing around out of combat. Beyond that, we never hear our characters laugh.
  18. I'm not really talking affection rating, since you can end up with the same affection rating from your astromech than you can from a potential love interest. I was more speaking about the choices we make in our companion conversations, and the ones that ultimately lead to a romance and marriage, and whether not going down that path has any impact on the game other than romantic parts being omitted from the companion story. I don't want to feel like I have to hook up with someone, or risk missing some huge questline or super item that I'll be regretting later.
  19. I would love to do space missions. Unfortunately I can't because the XP rewards would push me even further ahead of the content than I already am. Option to disable XP gains, please.
  20. Are there any downsides to a character not getting romantically involved with a crew member? Beyond simply missing a few kissing cutscenes, I mean. I'm talking about missing out on real tangible in-game benefits (gifts, entire questlines, etc). Try to be general, or if you are going to be specific please put it in a spoiler tag. I just don't want to feel like I have to get involved with a companion character or risk missing out on a huge part of the story. Philosophically, I don't agree with my companion's opinions, and I'm not fond of the idea of having to pretend I feel otherwise "just to get the girl". But, since development time was invested in this area of the game, it's difficult to imagine that it can be safely ignored without consequence.

I just don't want to feel like I have to get involved with Kira or risk missing out on a huge part of the story. 22. It's a bug. And I say it's a bug because some of my friends characters I can add to my friends list even when they're offline, and other characters from the same friends I can't. It's inconsistent. So, one way or the other it's bugged.
  23. This I can understand, and while it is really on the shoulders of the the players to provide screenshot examples of the items, I think it falls squarely on the shoulders of these database sites to take the differences between Republic and Imperial gear into consideration. And, for whatever reason, they're not. The same goes for items that aren't even in the game anymore and haven't been since beta. Heck, it could be that the people who run these sites are simply unaware that there is a difference between Republic and Imperial versions of the same gear to begin with. Someone above mentioned submitting screenshots and having them thrown out. It's very possible that happened because someone complained that the images were incorrect representation of the equipment, without being aware that the same piece of equipment has a different appearance depending on the faction of the player wearing it. In fact, I've run across a few such comments complaining about images on these databases. To be clear, I'll provide an image example of what I'm talking about: Picture of Republic and Imperial versions of the same gear. The image above shows an Imperial and Republic version of "Ancient Seeker's Headgear", and an Imperial and Republic version of "[Prototype] Visionary Headgear". As you can see, despite being exactly the same item they look completely different depending on whether you're viewing them as an Imperial player or a Republic player. Here is how they're displayed on Torhead: http://www.torhead.com/item/79bS7NQ/ancient-seekers-headgear http://www.torhead.com/item/eejaTfV/prototype-visionary-headgear Here is how they're displayed on DarthHaterDB: http://db.darthhater.com/items/36665/ancient_seekers_headgear/ http://db.darthhater.com/items/28190/%5Bprototype%5D_visionary_headgear/ So, if you're a Republic player attempting to search through those databases for a particular look, all you have to go by is the icons. And the icons being shown in the databases in these cases are Imperial icons, making the information useless (or, worse case, misleading) to a Republic player. I feel that in the case of this particular problem it's the responsibility of the database (not the players) to provide an option to view these items from both an Imperial or Republic perspective. Left as is, they're just confusing. Now, I say "responsibility" like it's the site owners purpose on this planet to show us accurate SWToR data. Clearly it's not. But, my point is, if you're going to go through the trouble of putting up a site, it makes sense for the information to be useful and accurate. Perhaps more importantly, the site that finally manages to straighten problems like the above out is going to be the one that is likely used the most, which (when coupled with advertisements and traffic) is just a smart business decision.
  24. First, I'm not knocking the effort of someone attempting to put up an MMO database site. I appreciate that people do this and in the end anything is better than nothing. However, it is difficult to go from a site like Wowhead (for World of Warcraft) to a site like Torhead or Darthhaterdb and not be disappointed in the results. There is just so little basic (but useful) information available in these databases that I took for granted so long when using sites like Wowhead. If you're looking to find where a specific piece of gear comes from, who drops/sells/crafts it, what else that mob drops/sells, or what the item even looks like, chances are high that you're going to run into a dead end. Even worse, many of these sites seem to include data from beta, showing items or crew schematics that seem to have been removed from the game. You can spend a good chunk of time investigating an item only to eventually start running across evidence elsewhere indicating that the item doesn't actually exist anymore in the live game. The final frustration comes from the fact that (example) a pair of Armored Bantha Jeans looks entirely different depending on which faction (Imperial or Republic) is wearing it. Despite it being the exact same item that is simply available to both factions, the artwork for it changes depending on whether it's being worn by an Imperial character or a Republic character. And since many of these items in the database don't have player submitted screenshots attached to them at this stage (much less screenshots from each faction), you have to go by the artwork in the icon. An icon which, while reasonably accurate, is also based on the faction of the person viewing it. Unfortunately, all of these website databases seem to only show the Imperial icon for these items, and so a Republic player browsing the database may hunt down a particular article of armor thinking it looks cool in the icon shown in the database, only to realize the icon (and item) is completely different once he gets his Republic mitts on it in-game. Because of this strange setup, I would expect these databases to have a toggle to allow you to view the items from an Imperial or Republic perspective, but unless I'm just missing it I don't believe these options exist. Which, I guess brings me to point of this thread. Are there options like this available on the existing database sites that I'm just missing? Is there a database out there that stands above the rest, seems more current, and offers filters to differentiate between Imperial and Republic artwork? Am I the only one leaving these database sites frustrated? EDIT: Screenshot examples and database links provided further down this page.
