  1. This is the only reasonable suggestion so far... hell, I'd even say they could do it as many times as they want for free, but the character resets to level 10.
  2. Yes they should have. BioWare did indeed add to the confusion. Classes here should have been called "Stories", especially given BioWare's m.o. Advanced Classes should have then been called Classes, because that is precisely what they are in the game - different abilities, different armor, different weapons, different role.
  3. In TOR: Classes = Stories Advanced Classes = Classes (i.e. combat classes as we know them - unique abilities, different armor, different weapons, different roles.) Once you understand and accept this, you'll breath much easier.
  4. Well, in a closed server community, that would be suicide if he did that. But the group leader needs to be able to control.
  5. I guarantee this would be an NGE-level decision at this point. They wont do it for years.
  6. In 3 years no one will care. It ain't happening any time soon.
  7. Too late. It's true, and you bought it. In TOR: Classes = stories. Advanced classes = combat classes. Once you understand and accept this, it's much easier to understand the correct decision for no AC switching. Because everyone realizes you don't switch classes in an MMO.
  8. BioWare will not allow it any time soon, as in, any time before the first expansion. Guaranteed. If then. As a matter of fact, as I stated before - doing that would be the TOR equivalent of the NGE - a massive exodus would ensue and everyone would look back and say "what if we didn't..." In your example above, Smuggler - Gunslinger and Smuggler - Sawbones is false. You conveniently left out the Smuggler - Scoundrel part - because Scoundrel is actually your class, and that would make your request look pretty silly. When you rolled a Hunter in WoW, did you ask to be a Priest just to "check it out?" No, because it's ridiculous. In TOR, advanced classes ARE the combat classes. You don't switch them.
  9. How is that different than picking a class in any other MMO?
  10. I think you made their case. They do not want any one profession "required" for raiding.
  11. While I would like more control over all of those things, players have no idea what is good for them and would create a massive load on support for issues their machine shouldn't even be handling. BioWare is doing the right thing by curating access to these features and controls.
  12. Well, good luck with that then. BioWare developers are against the idea, at least at this stage in the game's lifecycle. A few years down the road? Sure, they'll do it. They've already said they have the tech to do it, just gotta turn it on.
  13. You are all over the map with this. How did you know you were going to like the class you chose in other games? You didn't. You simply played it and decided if it was for you. If not, re-roll or quit. At least BioWare is giving you 10 levels to get the basic feel before choosing your combat class.
  14. In the game, open your Guild window. Under the "Class" column, tell me what you see. I'll wait here.
  15. Not until BioWare steps into this thread and says "you're right, we were wrong." I answered it in my last post. And again below. Yes you are. The construct of advanced classes in TOR = classes elsewhere. That's why it's the equivalent of switching classes. And that is the only answer you need as to why it would be bad for the game. The other advanced class: wears different armor, uses different weapons, has different abilities and is capable of different roles. If that isn't a more cut-and-dried definition of what a "class" is, then I don't know what else to say to you.
  16. You're the one that has to carry the burden - the feature you want is not in game, nor has it been announced. Just for clarity. The detrimental effects of switching classes in a class-based RPG should be obvious. I've been hear discussing this same thing for over 3 years, and I've heard it all. There is no solid footing whatsoever under the switching of classes. You simply cannot take a core construct and shake it up without changing the dynamics of the game. You heard about the NGE in Star Wars Galaxies, right? If that happens here, I expect a similar exodus.
  17. [quote=PJEBarlow;1594721 And now we're in straw man zone, attacking arguments I went out of my way to clear up in advance... I said I don't like the idea of re-rolling my Juggernaut to a Marauder because it's 13 levels of grinding the exact same content, because it doesn't add any difficulty or challenge and only serves to be a tedious waste of a couple of hours. The reason I was happy to invest that time in to a completely different base class is because the entire experience from 1-13 is completely and utterly different. Now, do you understand, or do you have more scare crows to stuff with straw? The problem around here is everyone loves to play the "straw-man" card when their back is up against a wall. I understand you don't LIKE rerolling, however that's precisely what you would have to do in another MMO to get to a class that plays differently, has different abilities, wears different armor and uses different weapons. Cut and dried. Advanced classes ARE the combat classes.
  18. Well, because quite simply if you rolled a mage in another game, you wouldn't expect to be able to switch it to a warrior if you didn't like it, would you? Plus, what if you DID get to switch? And then you didn't like Marauder either? Then what? "Just one more switch" I guess.
  19. Advanced Classes are classes in TOR. Classes are stories in TOR. Once you understand and accept that, this whole mess goes away and even the most zealous realize that, obviously, you do not switch classes in an MMO.
  20. And as a specialist, it means you are not learning other specialties. It would take quite a feat of endurance, tolerance and effort to become a specialist in a second area. You want to switch classes? Then you get reset back to level 10 to make the choice again. That's the only sensible, fair way. You don't pick a class at the beginning, you pick a story. Go look at the character creation screen. It describes the story. And then it also describes advanced classes. BioWare's naming scheme is causing them all the problems. Advanced Classes ARE Classes.
  21. And if you don't like it you'd want "just one more switch" back. You picked a Mage in WoW, you stuck with it or rerolled. You didn't demand to respec into a Warrior.
  22. I've been around even longer than you This whole topic is why they can never allow dual spec, because it would be give an inch take a mile... next, whiners will want to switch classes.
  23. No, it's a class. It's your combat class. Pretend for a second BioWare didn't make the mistake of naming them Classes and instead called them Stories. Then, Advnanced Classes as we know them would be called Classes - the equivalent to their counterparts in other MMOs. Classes are stories. Advanced Classes are classes. Thanks.
