  1. I for one...am soooo happy that this game, so far, does not have any of those pesky earth holidays cluttering up the feel and look of the game.

WOW is the absolute worst offender of this, bleah, I'm so happy SW:TOR is tacky-commercial holiday-free.

I supposed you don't mind the lack of pesky players cluttering up the feel and look of the game either, since there's nothing to do without world events and holidays.

They already said world event and these kinds of things are very high on their priority list... so, get ready.

  2. hate that holiday crap glad its not in there space easter is dumb and not worth the effort. other things to put in game first

The lack of that holiday "crap" is a huge component of why the game world feels lifeless.

  3. Is it feasible to play without the companion? I mean, we're supposed to be powerful Sith (or Jedi) and yet, we have to rely on a helper?? I get it for the Bounty Hunter and Smuggler classes, but the Sith/Jedi classes really shouldn't NEED them to play.

Yeah, it's pretty contradictory all around... you're heroic - but not heroic enough to fight that generic Imperial army guy without your companion.

#1 reason I dislike the game is because of requirements to use companions.

  4. Or here http://www.eveonline.com/

Now being more serious: the wine way is even more undesirable than going the bootcamp way. As soon as I get my new Mac I'll have to bootcamp it which sucks but I still want a NATIVE OS X client.

You can't have it both ways. The only way to speak is with your wallet - cancel your account until the game is available as a native Mac OS X version. Otherwise there's no incentive for BioWare to do one.

  5.

Uh, no. Why should Mac users support the game by paying a subscription when you have to jump through hoops like that, and to top it off you wouldn't even be supported in return. Only a fool... laughable.

What you meant to say is anyone who wants to play great games on the Mac go here:

  6. Greeting, nerds... At least I hope some of you are Star Wars nerds such as myself.

The Old Republic is a new game, it WILL be buggy, give it time, I, myself have compared it to SWG, but SWG had like what, 9 Years? This is only 5 months old. Yes, it is buggy as heck, and it causes mass frustration! But give it time.

When I buy a car, or a toaster or any other product, I don't expect to have to "give it time" to be competitive with other cars or toasters that I would have bought.

  7. THE ISSUE

I know what so many of you are going through... Trying to find a group for a Flash Point is a nightmare, if not impossible at the moment. That is unless you're currently living in 'The Fatman' (US) or 'Tomb of Freedon Nadd' (EU).

So, you bought an MMO, but spend 90% of your time playing by yourself, the other 10% either queueing or participating in Warzones?

If this is you, then please read on...

The LFG tool, let's face it. Sucks. I mean it's absolutely terrible. You can defend it all you want, but the fact of the matter is, for a game that's spent four years in development, and cost over $100,000,000 (yes, that's a lot of zero's), it's woefully inadequate. Being able to list 10 visible characters of text next to your name, that appears only if your name is listed in the third parties /who list, and has a tendency to change of its volition, will simply not do.

    THE SOLUTION

So, yesterday I decided to do something about it...

All I did, was very simply type:

    /create LFF

    /unlock LFF

This creates a new chat channel (in my case assessed via /6 in the chat window). It also unlocks it, so that anyone can type:

    /cjoin LFF

    And join the channel.

    THE REASONING

Now... You might be screaming at me, "This is useless, how is this any different to sitting on the fleet and spamming - 'LFG HM False Empire'". Well, let me tell you.

CHAT CHANNELS ARE GLOBAL. Anyone who has joined the LFF (Looking for Flashpoint) channel will be able to see it. Regardless of whether they are sat on the fleet, on their ship, on a random planet, in a warzone, or currently in a flashpoint.

The biggest pro to this is that the majority of time level 50's can't find a group easily, and so joining a warzone is a sure way to be able to see some action with your playtime. Once in a warzone, you're unable to see the fleet banter of people requesting groups. Opening up this channel solves that, simply, and effectively.

Using a global channel also means that players no longer have to run back to the fleet, sit there spamming chat, all in the hope of finding the tank they so badly need to complete their group. Players are free to continue with their general stream of play, even levelling alts on low level planets, whilst keeping an ear out for a HM FP taking place that their main could do. The same goes for the reverse... In a warzone on your level 50 toon, notice that someone is looking for one last DPS for Taral V, and you've been aching for your level 36 commando to go? Now you have the chance.

Finally, the channel is persistent. By that I mean, when you log out, and, inevitably log back in, the channel will still be there, and you will automatically be reconnected to it.

Don't want it cluttering up all your chat logs? Simply make a new tab for it along with the general tab, and you can view it when you're not so interested in how many credits you're looting, who's scoring in Huttball, or what your ships droid is incessantly spouting to you.

    THE PROBLEM

Of course, there is one problem with this. To start a new channel is to start an empty channel. However, within the space of an hour last night (between 10-11pm) I managed to recruit over 50 random people into the LFF channel. If I can spread the word to those 50 within an hour, and each of them tell their guilds and friends, I can only assume the channels population will boom.

This is a tried and tested method of finding groups from Lord of the Rings Online. It works extremely well for them, so I see no reason it shouldn't work here.

    THE END

So, I urge all of you reading this to take the initiative on your own servers, create a LFF channel, or join one that already exists, and spread the word. It really does work. Have an enjoyable and social play experience, every single time you log in. Stop sitting on your thumbs, waiting for hours to do a single flashpoint, and start enjoying this fine MMO the way it's meant to be.

    .

Almost seems like this is something that should be built into the game... maybe not something paying players would have to take an "initiative" with, eh?

  8. Is it really neccesary to patch every few days? Why can't I play when it fits into my schedule. Why is it everytime I have a little time to spare I'm working around what works best for some developer?

Can we please just get it right one and not need some 6 hour downtime for a generic, 'server stability' patch?

You had years to work out those bugs. Why am I paying to play your Beta?

You don't have to play if you don't find it of value you know. Cancel and come back when you feel it's ready.

  9. Bioware's April Fools went down in some quarters pretty badly (as apparently some of you thought they were serious). Despite the hilarity however, the April Fools gag does highlight one thing about Star Wars The Old Republic that - to me - represents a fundamental lack of inventivness and forward thinking - the lack of mini-games.

I don't think "mini-games" are the answer, per se... but I do think social, non-combat activities that get players out into the world with each other is the right thing to focus on. Mini games could be a part of that, but the overall goal should be alternate activities in the world that bring players together.

  10. I like to do stuff other than fight all the time. Space almost breaks that up, but it is still just, blah. LOTRO we had fishing, introduced about a year after release. (maybe 18 months, I can't remember, LOL) I want to see pazaak to do something other than kill x people, or destroy space station, etc...

Oh, I agree with you 100%... I love that stuff. It's the stuff that makes it feel more like a world than just a game. Unfortunately, it ended up the polar opposite of SWG and while there's "potential" the core design of the game doesn't take this stuff into account.

Even if there was a hobby such as fishing (or something Star Warsy) at launch to get people out in the world and do casual/social progression during down time... but there was no priority given to it. That worries me about the "potential."

  11. I'd much prefer the cantinas to be populated than seeing them add a bunch of useless NPCs to the world.

I was thinking more along the lines of filled with players...

They can't afford to take players out of the world when there is content (multilayer content) out there to do. You need them out adventuring, which ultimate is the design of this game. It's not a sit-in-the-cantina game, they need you out there playing for the health of the game.

  12. Don't you find the cantinas boring and always empty. Most of them ar big places with music and dancers but nothing to do in them except buying things to the barman and a few missions. Wouldn't it be better if the was mini games to play to? Like pazzak, fighting competitions, speeder races and bets. Like ther was in KOTOR at Taris cantinas.

A cantna should be a social place where people wants to gather. For the moment it's just a place where you can go to have a rest.

I think BioWare would want the world filled before worrying about filling the cantinas.

  13. Uh, yeah, they do on my machine too.

So unless you are sitting in my house looking at my screen while I play, don't presume to say what's what on my machine.

Sorry. Gonna challenge you here. Your shadows look just as bad and as blocky as in the OP's screenshots, no matter what machine you have.

Of course, you could prove me wrong by posting a couple screenshots pretty easily, right?

  14. I was curious if anyone had any trials left to give out. I'd like my husband to try the game, but my account isn't old enough yet to send one out. I'm sure this question has been asked a lot, but we really don't want to spend $120 (cost for both of us to own a copy) only to find out he doesn't like the game.

You could probably let him sit down and create a character on your account to test it out...

  15. The only FP I did was The Esseles and I only leveled to PvP Rank 20, while leveling up in this game and most of the time quests were green for me on my way to 50. They turned grey at some points too. I felt like I leveled up too fast in this game. I would skip whole bonus series or entire planets (outside of main planet quest and class quests) and still be a higher level than I wanted to be. If you ask me they should just give a substantial credit reward and a daily commendation for every quest you complete when you are level 50. This gives reason and purpose to go back and do the quests you missed.

I can't believe it even has to be said, but in story driven game, the reward is the story.

If it isn't then this entire game and concept of a story driven MMO has failed miserably.

  16. I haven't heard a single note about having a mentor system, where I can get on my 50, go down to starter area, and "Mentor" a new player, dropping my level to be in line with there level.

One of these days we are going to stop rolling alts, and then what the heck is a new character going to do?

I didn't hear anything about this in the Guild Summit, and cant find anything on the forums...

Shouldn't this be like a launch feature? Seems simple enough. If they have a way to bump you up to lvl 49 for pvp why cant they downgrade you for mentoring?

The leveling game is designed to be solo... there's no "help" needed, and of course if you just want to go hang out with them you can do it right now.

    In other words, it's unnecessary.

  17. any new interviews since it was stated that the game works fine on Bootcamp/Windows at the Guild Summit?

And what do you mean by "wheels already in motion"? Like they are actually developing it, or are they gaining data, making a plan, find out how much it would cost, how much it would cost to support, and about how much money it could make for EA? So they can present that information to EA and ask them for more money to do it.

""I'd say 'not yet,'" Zeschuk assured me when I told him that, as a BioWare fan, I'm unable to play The Old Republic on my less than two-year-old MacBook."

"We've done a lot of Mac ports before of our games. We haven't announced any details yet for The Old Republic, but we know that's an important and large audience."
