what would truly fix inflation is making cartel market items unsellable untradeable and unlistable on gtn. have it be bound completely once you buy something.

they would also substantially cut their Cartel Market sales. A lot of people buy Cartel Market items just to sell them to others for credits instead of buying credits from third party sources. You should be thanking the people who buy from the Cartel Market to sell in game for credits because...

  1. Selling Cartel Market items in game does not create credits so does not increase inflation
  2. Selling Cartel Market items in game on the GTN lowers inflation due to the GTN tax
  3. Selling Cartel Markets items is how this game stays alive for the rest of us

The only problem here is that a not insignificant number of people buying CM items for credits are buying those credits from credit sellers (who generally obtain those credits through nefarious means) thus creating a cycle of buying and selling credits through third parties. Fix that problem and selling CM items for credits is not really a problem.

people are also buying those third party credits to purchase augments, legacy unlocks, and crafting materials.

you can't blame Cartel Market items for inflation because people are breaking the TOS and buying credits from a third party. The blame fully lies on the people buying credits.

But it does. It takes credits away from everyone

no, it only "takes away" credits from the people who are actually going out and doing heroics/dailies, and those people.... aren't the uber-rich
and I'm sure plenty of people have already pointed out, if you're actually doing those heroics or dailies you're still net positive for credits generated by a pretty significant margin

maybe you need to spend a day sitting in fleet chat and watching just how many trade offers go up, and how many people are posting several chat messages at once to cover how many items they're trying to sell, so you can get a sense of what the uber-rich of SWTOR actually do

So only from people who actually play the game and generate credits? That's the point. The (very) few uber-rich who do nothing but sell stuff on the trade chat don't actually generate any credits, they are just redistributing existing ones. They actually do nothing to increase inflation.

The good thing is they aren't charging people to visit their strongholds like originally planned.

No in that case you have to pay to exit from your Stronghold to the planet or fleet station it is on. Your front door has now become a toll bridge but you can still freely go to your ship which is docked on the station above the planet or docked in the lower section of the fleet station.

I have been looting blues that I used to skip in order to offset the cost. My guess is this will increase, nou decrease, the amount of credits coming into the system by causing players to work more to offset it.

It's stupid an will never help or work.

No, only players playing the RPG content and leveling are impacted (and in the grand scheme of things, aren't generating that many credits compared to other sources). The people generating all the credits (credit farmer bots, heroic farmers, flashpoint farmers, etc) are not affected at all by the QT costs. Farming bots farm the same areas over and over and don't use QT. People farming flashpoints don't have any kind of travel fee, and people farming heroics use heroic transports (which are free and much better than QT since they take you right to the entrance of the heroic). You don't even have a fee for jumping from your stronghold to the mission box on the planet even if you go to a different planet than you came from to get to your stronghold.

I just ran 4 heroics for the GS objective on Tatooine and Belsavis (2 on each) and had no travel costs at all but generated almost 300K credits. Started in the stronghold, jumped to the Tat mission box from the Activities panel, used the heroic transports to get to the heroics, back to the stronghold, jumped to the mission box on Belsavis, used the heroic transports, jumped back to the Stronghold and accrued no travel costs at all.

To add one more point, all of the high costs are a result of people having enough credits to buy up everything and re-sell it at a higher price. It is the people with all the credits that are not only causing the high prices but driving the farming of credits as well (inflation isn't the right term for what is going on, it is more a result of people having a monopoly on certain goods).

these changes dont impact flashpoint play, warzones play, GSF play, operations play, which are all arguably far more effective wealth-generation methods than brainlessly farming heroics or dailies

and even when bringing the credit generation rate down, if you don't also provide high capacity credit sinks you don't have any meaningful change, since part of the reason why trade prices are so high is because there's so many credits in circulation with nowhere to go

and no, 5k max for quick travel is not high capacity

This change was all about trying to appear to be doing something with vague promises of more changes later. It is a pose, nothing more. The white knights eat up those vague promises and run to the forums to champion defend this. Dont hold your breath waiting for those bigger changes, that would cut into the CM cash flow.
