So what exactly will happen on Feb.15 ?

Based on chat in game right now, there are going to be lots of dissapointed players. A lot do not realize how limited the Combat Styles are going to be (or even how they are supposed to work). There is still an expectation out there that you can mix force and tech classes. They also don't realize how much has been pushed back to 7.1 and later.

Realistically?

On the 15th, hmm. I will log into my desktop ("Play" computer) and let the computer load. This will take all day. Meanwhile, I will log into my laptop ("work" computer remote for work. I will check on my desktop during "breaks" and lunch to see how it is progressing. )

Once I get into the game - probably 8 1/2 hours later -I will probably get a message that it isn't fully loaded yet, so I will only be able to log in characters I have on Tython, Korriban, Hutta or Ord mantell ( I only think I have 1 character there, I'd have to check the other servers).

Then, figure out how, once again, to reapply running around the wheel like a hamster to get to the same place I already have gotten to......

I see this on Discord servers as well. Lot of inflated expectations regarding Combat Styles and Loadouts.

"So my Infiltration Shadow will switch to this cool single-bladed Cartel Market saber and use lightning to fight or use stealth to avoid mobs."

Some will wait and see how everything goes. Not in a big rush to get into the mess. May log on to get the pictures but other than that I wait and see how all the bugs are done and then eventually log it. For now, I just play my other game.

I don't know if I would take Trixie's approach of waiting at least 24 hours, but its generally a good idea not to try and launch or even download the update for a few hours. Usually about 4-6 hours after the end of the scheduled maintenance window is enough time for the truly game-destroying bugs to reveal themselves.

A the end of a certain famous movie the hero looks at the heroine and says "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn"

which really sums up for THIS player exactly how I feel about all the fake controversy around this expansion. I wanted to be able to not have weapons types/use tied to character classes at all. If ya wanna have a blaster wielding Jedi Councilor go for it, If your trooper is a specialist with a light Sabre or a Vibro sword Or wants to do the whole tech samurai thing, let it happen..

But that not what we got. I am disappointed because that means my Mando/Hunter still cannot use the Beskar Spear I cash paid for! I wonder if the devs understand just how much this irritates me?. He can use the Mando's sniper rifle now but he still will not be able to use the spear.

I am glad for new story content, it's been needed for awhile. Now that expanded universe is "legit", and the game is effectively considered Canon well, we'll see won't we? Perhaps SWOTOR will move down the road that leads to the High Republic era (which will of course be the end of the story here) as the Sith Empire is destroyed as much from within as without. Sith are killed off one by one or even in job lots leading into the period of the rule of two. Either way at some point to Republic becomes the dominant power with only the Mandalorian, The Hutt Cartels, the Chiss and a handful of others along with Sith empire remnants in the outer rim, and the unknown regions and hidden beyond the Rishi maze in the other side of the galaxy exempted from republic control. Thats all for the future.

What I am curious about in the hear and now is a rumor whispered about that I have heard of a major massive upgrade to the games Hero Engine and the graphic rendering that will make full use of modern graphic cards.

Tomorrow is tomorrow. I will continue to subscribe and enjoy the game because frankly it IS the only Star Wars MMO-RPG we have and that is that.

May you all have zero issues to morrow getting updated, logging in, and playing (it would be a lovely first wouldn't it?) and I'll see ya'll in game.

There has been no specific mentioning of things like graphical updates (not talking about the character creation or UI updates, but “under the hood” updates since it was alluded to or inferred from the original 7.0 announcement livestream last summer. The implication was that these updates would occur throughout 2022 after launching 7.0. There aren’t any listed in the patch notes and none on PTS that I can tell, I pretty much had the same FPS on PTS as I do on LIVE.

Here are my predictions for what everyone will do:

1. Log in, select the stealth option for the character, redo skill bars

2. Blitz to 80, probably by doing the new story quest

3. Once at 80, go unlock the new equipment quest slot thing

4. Overwhelm all the same areas as everyone else, but who cares because now kills count for anyone that tags or heals (protip: put a HoT on a dude that's doing big AoE attacks)

5. Get pissed off because bioware is requiring you to do GSF and Hoth heroics to get any decent rewards

6. Go find the vendor with the new screenshot decorations and get mad that they didn't use your obviously superior ones

Personally, I always like to run the story quests with a couple different guys just to see what the variations are, but I'm not looking forward to redoing my skill bars first.

At this point anything could happen considering they have been conspicuously absent with communication except for the two or three posts by community support and Jackie. Nothing at all from the leading devs or Keith. So much for the year long celebration :(

The celebration was in a galaxy far far way.

SWTOR is one of the more modern MMOs, and as such railroads you in terms of weapon selection, available actions etc. Old MMOs follow a more open approach, starting with having actual skills, attributes and the like, and also still retain the 4th role in groups -- crowd control -- which has been reduced massively down to near non-existence and spread over the remaining 3 roles in SWTOR, for example. One possibility out of all that is that items can have requirements based on skill and attributes alone -- no level reqs at all -- which opens up other opportunities, including a more freeform weapons selection for your characters. And depending on the weapon (or the skills actually) you have actions made available to you. You would need to redesign core parts of SWTOR to make this possible. While I prefer the older ways, I would never even think about attempting that with SWTOR.

Yep, same thing.

But I guess I'll have to figure out skills first and unlock remnant gear to finally make room in my legacy vault. Then play the story in all the possible ways...
