Collector's Edition Code Help?

Hello, all and hopefully a staff member or two! So, my current blight is one that was caused by my own doing and I'll admit this. I've recently been watching the forums around things like the "Collector's Edition" that came out way back when the game first starting popping up, later learning about it still being around if you look hard enough on things like Amazon.

I personally snagged an edition a week back, getting all the goodies and such, yet the code was used five years prior to my purchase. Salting the wound more so when Amazon told me that the code would still be valid before I purchased it, hence the high price. Somewhere around $150.00 US. I ended up thinking the mistake was from my own doing at first, contacting SWOTR customer support and later being on call. By the end of the call I find out, again, that the code was used half a decade ago.

I know this is an insane longshot and is most likely not going to happen, but please, consider; Maybe a new code sent my way? A randomly generated one to redeem to complete my purchase and not end my dream of snagging that sweet IMP trooper armor with it being a waste of time and money? I can send proof of the code I was given through private emails if that's needed to prove that I got the package, as well as screenshots, too. I promise, this is far from me trying to pull a fast one. I just adore the game and I wanted to show how much I support it by rocking the armor that's given by the CE vendor at the top of the fleet areas.

This is an email I got from support at the end of my call if a demo of proof is needed, but I'm going to space out the code and his name for privacy to the customer support member who helped me: "Thanks a lot for contacting Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ Customer Service for your Code already used issue.

My name is (Name) and it was good to talk to you today, I’ve included a recap of our conversation below for your records.

I have checked the code (Code) in records where is shows that it was used many years ago before you purchased it through Amazon. In this case I would recommend you to contact the seller to get the code replaced."

I tried everything I was asked to do afterwards, though the seller I got it from simply said that: "It was in good condition" as a response, which was obviously him telling me that it was my mistake, which I won't deny since I did spend the money. It was ignorance getting the better of me in a way I was not used to. So, my wild goose chase has lead me here, going from ingame ticket, to staff, to customer support, to call, to amazon, and finally--- Well, here.

The last thing I'll mention before I end this outlandishly long forum plea: After digging through some older forums about the subject, I noticed certain people saying that they did get their codes renewed, so it did happen awhile back, though I won't cross my fingers too hard hoping for a similar outcome. I'm simply a guy who got outplayed and is looking for a form of salvation. I'd rather settle things through email rather than phone moving forward in this, if that's possible. My last attempt went into a confusing back and forth with my phone not really being able to pick up voices because of bad service in my area. It worked out in the end, but it took much longer than it probably should've because of the cutting out, hah. The rest is up to you guys, SWOTR team.

This is the forum post I was referencing previous, if anyone is curious. Second post in the forum thread:

Much love :rak_03:

Unfortunately customer service has become very unhelpful lately- they refused to even restore non-cartel items that were deleted or sold a while back, claiming they can't, when I know for a fact it's possible.

I’m curious what Amazon said when you tried to return it. If you have proof the code was used five years ago and the listing didn’t mention it was used, I would think they would let you return it.

It is allowing me to return it, but at that point I'd only lose the items I already had IRL. The more risky ones lean into the $350+ range and I don't feel comfortable enough risking that much cash to just repeat what happened this time. So, I made this thread with the hope of simply getting a new code with the package I bought and have on me currently.

dont think swtor support would be able to help you with things like this as it could easily be abused by other players assuming they just randomly sent you a code, after all the money you paid for the collectors edition didn't go to bioware or ea, it went to someone random via amazon. the successful examples that you use of people getting replacement codes is when they buy directly from retail, not second hand items

sucks but nothing to do

Fair enough, I actually didn't think of it that way. Now I just wish they'd slap the items that vendor sells on the marketplace on the website or something, lmfao. Hope for the future, I suppose. It's been a few years and they already have the Deluxe version on there.

EA/Bioware and plenty of other publishers have been really careful about re-releasing preorder/collectors edition rewards as it hurts the prospects of their future titles if players can just buy it later. Its pretty rational thinking honestly, in particular as pre-orders and pre-order rewards are much more developed and common now with games.

Yeah, the only MMORPGs I know that sell digital-only Collector's Edition codes after the fact are small ones that I'm sure only I've ever heard of, including these three:

* Guild Wars 2

* Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

* The Elder Scrolls Online.

EDIT: I feel I should apologise for getting sarcasm stains all over your screens.

this is disingenuous, those collectors editions are the equivalent to the subscriber rewards that swtor uses, there are several rewards for final fantasy, guildwars and so which were gained at launch that has not made a comeback

I agree the CS in this game has gone tragically downhill lately, but to be fair to CS, this is something they can't do, he bought the set from amazon, it comes down to amazon to refund it.

If they did have give him a new code, how many people would then sell old codes, or use them on other accounts, and claim they bought them, etc /shrug

The one in Guild Wars 2 is definitely the same digital goods as were included in the original physical CE pack. (I have the physical CE pack, thanks.)
