Server Browser: Adding Back The Server Types

I noticed when I logged on a month or two ago that the server descriptions had been edited or more so...simplified, I was only on briefly so didn't think too much of it other than it was abit strange.

However now that i've been playing again, its got me thinking of the effect on the game, even though you can now go into PVP instances and all that I feel the Server types was still very useful for new players joining and wanted to know what server would be more suited to their playstyle.

Especially when you take an RP server into account, and you get new players joining the RP server with no intention for RP, it would break immersion for some RPers to come across them.

Now if a new player wants to know what server does what, they have to back out of the game, go onto the website, and find the server list for the description there, if they even get that far or think about it.

On top of that it would also help the current playerbase as it would keep their server as they expected it to be when they settled in.

I find this move to be damaging to the community as a whole and feel it would benefit if people were able to choose more definitively.

Hopeful to see this get added back into the game.

I wasn't bother enough to start a topic but since u did I aslo liked it the way it was before, I myself started totally unaware on TOFN and found that ppl there are mainly oriented on lvling and grind, I flet like guys there didn't really enjoy story and just sprinted through the game to hit lvl 50, I had none to play with. It was near impossible for me to find a casual OPS group who woulnd complain or laugh at my skills and also I would get kicked from FP's for not skipping the movies. On top of that everyone there was wearing completely random armor parts purely for the sake of stats and everyone would look like if someone got high and made them out of random lego ****.

Eventually I paid 120 euro for moving my legacy over to an RP server, and I was happy I felt more at home here, ppl like to dress up and pretend they are actual characters( I don't even mean real rolpeplay just casual stuff with random strangers in the street). Its not the roleplaying alone its just that ppl I met here are more likeminded.

I rly don't like that now server will get again filled with ppl who aren't fitting here, I already seen quite a lot of them and ALREADY got kicked from an FP for not spacebaring through dailogs seriously!

I really think things should go back to the way they were, RP community is big enough to have its own server imo.

So don't be a division of EA and pretty please bring it back, I mean if ull start mistreating RPers they'll just leave so its no good buisnes for you.

Regards

Pir

Yeah man you got it 100%, And when it comes to FP's, like what if i've never done this specific one before, or im doing them in order and i wanna listen to what's happening you know? xD

RP players are usually alot more patient in general, and the players will be more likely to walk around and its more immersive overall in my personal opinion.

That could quite easily be destroyed by it being mislabeled or lackthereof and its no good for them or for RPers, its better for everyone to be able to clearly dictate what playstyle they want to choose from.

And of course there is nothing wrong if a player wants to rush through and get to the grind and powerhouse, or if they want to be slaughtering at PVP, all about preference, and its exactly that.

Saves confusion and frustration in the long run.

  • 5 months later...

I know it's been awhile since this post has been commented on, but I've come back to this game a few times and have noticed that the server browser has stayed simplified...I don't fully see the reasoning for this being removed to begin with as I stated before, this would help the community to be able to fit into the play style they would prefer, and save confusion for others when they get set up in a server to find out later on there are better choices for them.

The server i play on currently for example is an RP server, and now in this turn of me coming back, I've actually started to notice guilds being created that have nothing to do with RP whatsoever, this seems quite damaging to the server types overall and is limiting the unique qualities of each server.

Basically just re-bumping this to see if anyone else feels the same way about it as I do.

The main issue here is that there really are only two play-styles they can document: RP and not-RP. There is no PvP/PvE split any more since they introduced the instances. Questions of "end-game sprint" versus "taking time to enjoy stories" change at any time, and don't really belong on the server list screen.

Even RP/not-RP isn't very useful. An RP server is, in essence, one on which you should expect to see people doing RP activities, and them doing that on those servers is supported by the "RP" tag on the server. (Therefore, hassling them because they are RPing on an RP server will get *you* sanctioned, not them.)

While it would, perhaps, be useful to tag some servers as RP-oriented (one per NA region, one per EU language?), that's as far as I see them going.

Yeah I realised that with the instance thing pure PVP servers and pure PVE servers aren't really required anymore, would still be helpful in my eyes to draw players of a certain playthrough to that server but not as needed now I guess.

Would be happy enough though with RP servers being stated at least, because they do add quite a big change to the way people play inside that server as a whole and of course attracts the right people to one place.

You're not alone. Most of us who RP on the RP servers would wish that the RP flags could be visibly restored, to direct new players accordingly. With PVP/PVE being made into instances (which is great, RPers take advantage of it too), RP really is the only relevant designation that remains, and it's actually fairly important for players to be able to identify this. Innovation is great, but convention still shapes perception, and conventionally most MMO players are used to seeing server designations when they choose a server to create their characters on. RPers who pick, say, Harbinger, only to discover that there's no RP to be found anywhere, and that the environment is actually fairly hostile to RP, might be discouraged from playing. Meanwhile the RP servers suffer from lack of new player inflow, or the disrupt inflow of players hostile to RP, which isn't healthy for those communities.

And as was mentioned by many people in other threads on this topic in the past, I know plenty of non RPer players who specifically chose RP servers because they wanted a calmer, more mature/friendly/whatever community, or who maybe even liked to see RP happening around them even if they didn't plan to participate.

Seems like a very easy two letters to restore to server listings!

Yeah you're exactly right, I really REALLY hope they do listen to posts where this is a subject matter and implement this back in, it does concern me to see RP servers being more and more diluted, as for me it was a very immersive experience to be apart of, and like you said even for players who wanted to witness the RP around them but maybe not even participate, it is still even then an immersive experience to be surrounded by.

Just of course the only reason they would bother i'd imagine is for more likeminded people to voice their opinions here or on any other post where the subject matter is the same, which hopefully takes place :)
