Struggling to pick out of Advanced Powertech or Pyrotech ?? What one is better

First time making one but I don't know what one is better out of them both ?

 

First off, are you starting from level 10 or level 60?

 

Put simply, AP doesn't play anything like it does endgame until level 32, whereas Pyro picks up most of its stuff @ level 16-or-so.

 

Then it depends on what you plan on doing. For clearing out groups of enemies, Pyro will be much better, whereas AP is better for dealing with single enemies or for doing PvP.

 

When it comes to operations, you should learn how to use both Pyro and AP, as individual fights will favour one spec or the other - though if you can't choose AP would be the better option as it is less reliant on raid composition and comes with AoE damage reduction.

Honestly?

 

 

 

AP, for.. everything pretty much.

 

From level 20:

shorter cooldown on DFA (bye mobs), Railshot no longer requires bleed/Dot; wonderfull.

Level 32: railshot reset.

 

What does Pyro do?

A new punch animation, and a DoT you can spread. Yay. Not many mobs last 15s, so.. eh.

Likewise, the -3s cd on flamethrower: eh..

Still do flamethrower once on a bunch of mobs in both specs..

 

At higher levels, sure, superheated flamethrower. But, the best flamethrower actually goes to tank; SURPRISE!

And a 30 SECOND DOT.

 

This for the spec that USED to have the rail shot reset proc, used to be the bursty-dot spec.. /cry.

Only good for AoE, or to annoy people, setting them all on fire with scorch .

 

People say AP PT is a "glass cannon"; they haven't looked at Pyro...

For some reason, AP gets -30% AoE dmg, and -30% whilst stunned;

+30% defense, for 6s with AoE taunt (so, 45s cd)

(+3% m/r defense, +3 stealth detection)

The "when attacked, cd reduction of energy shield", + energy redoubt passive.

Option: extra self-heal missiles.

In total, AP is "decently" survivable; sure it doesn't have "saber reflect" or "focused defense", or "combat stealth", guess what? Neither does gunslinger, or merc.. and those also don't have an AoE stun last I checked.

 

Pyro:

Righty.. okay..

-15% DoT damage, (usefull, sure)

+5% elemental DR, ( " ")

+30% dmg reduction during Kolto Overload; "when attacked, Kolto cd reduction".

Sure, makes you very hard to kill during kolto overload; presuming it triggers properly (I.e.: it wasn't an autocrit heatseeker missile that pushed you below 40% HP...)

Overall however, survivability wise too, AP> Pyro.
