Jedi can lift ships and boulders with the Force...

Considering the Force doesnt care about the size/mass of an object, the limiting factor would have to be the user's ability to focus on the object.. But we dont know to what degree they'd have to focus.

So one explanation might be that its the complex design of the lightsaber that makes it harder to grab.

Another explanation would be that force users generally only need to do this trick when they're either under the effects of stress during combat, or have been already hurt and thus are slightly lacking in their ability to focus.

One thing that would validate this possibility is scenes like the one where Obi wan easily snags a lightsaber from Grievous' belt while even having his back turned.

When he does this, he has recieved no injuries and is perfectly calm.. Which would imply that under regular conditions, grabbing a lightsaber is no harder than any other object.

They say size doesn't matter. Unfortunately, it kinda does. When you see something large, your immediate thought is that it's heavy. That is also a limiting factor. Not just someones ability to use the Force, but what that person Believes to be true. Having the ability to use the Force doesn't mean everyone can achieve the same results. One Jedi could lift a few rocks while another could toss around starships. Some Jedi can only Force Speed around 50mph, others can go like Sonic the Hedgehog.

The greatest limitation is the one they place on their own minds.
