GSF map idea

Just had an amazing idea of a new GSF map type.

 

in this map we would have to defend our capital ships, from enemy team to shoot them down.

As a team we have to protect our weak spots while trying to shoot down the enmy Capital.

The capital ship could also have some defence turrents that could be destroyed.:D:D

the defence turrents should be a bit weak comparing to normal turrents.

 

 

1.take out defence turrents

2.mashdown Shield generators

3.nuke the ship down

 

what do you guys think ?

Sounds interesting but needs a lot of tuning.

 

What I'd like to see:

Those ships should have weaker versions of turrets that can be killed first to make it easier to reach the shield generators and bridge as final targets.

I had a similar idea to this only I thought each "cap ship component" should have different weaknesses to make certain weapons better vs them. Like a heavy armored target to make armor penetration good and a high shield target to make ion weapons good. I also thought a component inside the ship so you had to fly in and destroy it close quarters to make that one harder to kill with gunships.

 

This would make a team bring new ships to their line ups and make all sorts of builds more viable.

 

I really do hope they come out with more game modes. :)

I'd kinda like them to be much tougher versions of the sat turrets HP wise but with comparable damage. That way destroying them, even with armor piercing weapons, would be an actual accomplishment as opposed to 2-3 HLC/BLC hits and dead. The current sat turret damage would mean while they could kill a foolhardy pilot they wouldn't be turrets of instant death like the cap ship spawn point turrets. Presumably there would be many of them with overlapping fields of fire so you wouldn't want them to do greater damage than the current sat defense turrets.

Gunships would be effective against turrets becaus they can stay out of range while taking them out. Against shield generators heavy weapons like torpedos (and conc missiles) or mines (not seeker) would be most effective; and by effective I mean a bonus on damage done against specific targets. As scouts do have neither of those their main task would be protecting their own ship and escorting teammates who do have heavy weapons.

Always wanted to see an "indoor" map. Something akin to ROTJ death star assault. Rooms and corridors might have to be a bit over-sized for it to work right. Lots of **** to trick fly / crash into would be a sexy addition.

 

Imagined it as a series of rooms, connected via pipes (4 rooms connected via pipes in a ring shape), with pipes leading from the ring into a large central chamber with either a reactor or possibly under construction dreadnoughts.

That needs to be done very well or it will end in bomber spam.

yah bomberspam could ruin it =/

 

in my imagining though each of the rooms would have three pipes, two leading to the adjacent rooms in the ring and one leading into the central chamber. Technically 3 bombers could lay mines over each forcing a group into one room.

 

I imagine though that this would be short lives as any assault would quickly eliminate the mines (either by being destroyed or by destroying ships that got too close) allowing the other team to neuter the bombers and get moving (a dicey situation for both the minelayers and the attackers)

 

IMO though real chokepoints would make for some very interesting tactical choices. The biggest limiter to this idea is gunships. Though the scale of the map could fix this, if it was large enough gunships could fire down tubes, rooms, or hang out in the central chamber (which would be truly gargantuan)
