  1. A lot of it is aim related for new players. Even beyond aim there are specific ranges at which blaster weapons have better accuracy, and this is different for each weapon. Burst Lasers, Light Lasers, and Rapid Fire Lasers are for close range (works best at < 2500m - and in some cases like burst the closer the better) Quads are mid range (like 4k-2k m) And Heavy Lasers are long range (6k - 3k or so) (Note: This is over-simplified version, there are little nuances to each weapon) Perhaps you could tell us what ship your using along with its component build and crew list. At least there we can steer you in a right direction. There are certain crew that provide bonus's that will really help depending on what weapon you use (IE: For light lasers I go with an offensive crewmate that gives +firing arc and +accuracy, and who also has wingman as their co-pilot ability - note: wingman provides aoe buff to accuracy for you and teammates - making it much easier to land shots) Anyways hope you stick around, depending on your server there is likely a GSF chat channel where you can coordinate with other pilots or ask questions etc, or you can come here (On bastion its /cjoin GSF)
  2. no worries man, ill pop into various TS if I want to say goodbyes hehe. Though it makes a lot more sense that way (reported) then the mods actually reading our forum. I have a feeling we will get some word from development in the not too distant future.
  3. I get the low priority thing, but what I don't get is the seemingly no priority we have now. With the new movie on the horizon and the announcement of what I can only assume is a Rouge Squadron based movie the idea that starfighter is somehow non-viable strikes me as odd. IMO Star wars has always been as much about starfighters as it has been about lightsabers and the force. I was a little surprised the other post got removed, I didn't think I had violated the TOS but perhaps I did *shrug* It was funny to me though, with all the lack of communication we have had they still had the time to do that lol.
  4. I didn't think the mods were looking in this forum, but apparently my other posts removal is proof that they are (for some things at least) In that line of thought I have a question and I hope its not out of line: In your roadmap there does not appear to be any mention of GSF at all. When GSH was announced, further development on GSF was shelved. At that point there was a new class of ship and perhaps new maps in the pipeline. We were told that there would be no GSF development until after GSH had launched. GSH has come and gone, and now you have announced the story line additions coming later this year (among other things) my first questions are below: Will there be upkeep development time allotted for GSF now that GSH is finished? Will there be new content development time allotted for GSF? If so When? Additionally it worries myself and others that the roadmap and cantina events have made 0 mention of GSF. Many of us are hoping strongly that there is both some upkeep and content additions planned for 2015. So my last question is this: Will GSF be allotted any development time: Upkeep (bug fixes) , Balance Passes, or Content for 2015? We are in desperate need of all those things IMO. I basically want to know, is GSF now like space PvE (IE no development) or is it something your still planning on supporting. These questions are important to me as GSF is the only reason I play. I would really like to support BW in this, but would just appreciate your being up front with us about our prospects Thank you, and I look forward to your response.
  5. I have had my occasional psychotic episodes where I screamed at my team, and some needlessly barbed disagreements with verain hehe. Other than that ive tried to be cordial, I have a pretty benign nature but I do have buttons that when pressed release rage garbage. Other than GSF I just don't have enough interest in the game. Did conquest and its basically glorified grinding. Tried to do PvP but the realization that next season is starting soon and my gear will be bleh again im starting to feel the grindy'ness of it all. Never did PvE much, Wow killed that for me. I have a lot of time and $$ invested in this game, and I don't want to give that up forever. But as it stands right now there are better ways to spend 14.99 per month. I truly hope they start supporting GSF again, but there just isnt much to keep me playing right now. After several thousand matches and mastered ships what is left
  6. So I am completely fed up with SWTOR and GSF. Went ahead and cancelled my subscription plan today, my sub runs through mid month so I might be around till then. To my fellow pilots, thank you! You are all what has made this game something im willing to spend time / money on. I have literally never seen a community that was so smart / helpful / and skilled, most days the forums are cordial and in game and out there are countless people willing to answer questions, tutor new pilots, and make fun events. There are too many people to thank specifically but you all know who you are. Ive made some good friends that I hope stay through this game. I hope to come back someday when BW has decided to support GSF again, but even with their new dev resources we have seen less and less leading up to 0 actual communication. This IMO is straight up despicable, I feel betrayed by BW as a company and will never buy another of their games EVER. I have had a blast killing / getting killed and honestly the gameplay over the last year has been some of the best / most fun of my entire gaming career (that goes back to the 80's) special thanks to drak for always having a spot on his team..... wish we flew together more recently though. Anyways take it easy pilots, hope to see you around.... but I wont hold my breath hehe (learned my lesson there 6 months ago) anyways kudos and goodluck all. If you want to keep in touch shoot me a PM and ill give you my info, I play Mechwarrior Online currently and am looking for a new game (MWO name: bobdolemite) PS. BW seriously, your going to lose some players who sub only for GSF if you keep on actively ignoring us. Be smart and support it even in a minimal way.......
  7. yeah ive been skipped before, but never with this frequency. The only game I actually got into I was in a group of 2, all the rest of the time was spent waiting and watching the games start and end (with the /who command) The other weird thing is hardly anyone was on, mostly new players queuing (AKA no groups to contend with) Perhaps thats just it, maybe it prefers new players and there were exactly enough of them with low / non existent hangers to fill every match. Whatever the case I can't waste my time like this, especially with other game that I have 0 issues getting into. It appears GSF has hit a new low for me, not only is it entirely ignored by the dev's, but now I cant actually play the game anymore. Im thinking I need a break from this until Bioware pulls their head out of their ***. If they never do I guess thats it for me then (which is sad because I love GSF) Plea to BE: I see you communicating on the PvP forums daily (and virtually every other forum as well) please don't ignore GSF like you have been, very soon you will bleed out the players that actually give a **** about GSF and you will be left with a worthless waste of time addition that no one plays. All it takes is the most basic attention like bug fixes and dev communication (which we don't even have at a basic level)
  8. So wanted to check and see if anyone else has been experiencing this. I got skipped for 6 games in a row today over the course of 2 hours! At one point there were two games going already, I had been queued for roughly 30 mins and I got skipped for the 3rd game that was forming. *** is with this, I been gone for like two weeks and now I cant get into a damn game, I got one today in all that two hours and there were multiple games going the whole time. If the game won't let me play then I have no reason to sub......
  9. On topic: IMO a reasonable respawn delay at the start of the match would be a better choice than a blanket ability use block. I have read and understand your reasoning but don't agree. I feel that blocking abilities would serve to hurt the diversity of the game by removing small benefits that niche builds provide at the start of the match. Tensor Field and interdiction drive being obvious examples, with booster recharge following close behind. Where a blanket ability hold would hurt diversity, a small respawn bump would completely nullify the benefit of tensor suicide without affecting any other part of the game makeup or balance. Saying that it hurts new players isnt entirely accurate, at some point they have to learn not to auto destruct 3 seconds into the match and if they do then they have to wait a "little bit" longer. Early suicide is easy to avoid, even for a novice player and a small respawn addition would help to enforce the lesson without unduly affecting player experience, new or old. long winded slightly on topic bloodmark discussion and response to personal attacks about elitism
  10. in my opinion the question of delaying abilities is out the window right off the bat, there are abilities that serve a good function at the beginning of a match (and IMO this is intended and working properly). There is no real reason to take this away, and only serves to hurt the diversity of the game. The real issue is not instant ability use, but people purposely suiciding so they can have the best of both worlds IE team support and then seconds later a "real" ship to fly. I think this could be addressed much easier by adding a longer respawn timer at the beginning of a match to discourage this type of play. There is the added bonus of it stopping would be team suiciders even if only for a short time. In this way people could still give their team a boost, but at the cost of their play time (if they suicide). It might even work out that people actually learn to fly the ship rather than just dog it for tensor. I fly my bloodmark frequently throughout a match and it is no slouch. No its not meant to face off against battle scouts directly but it is a match for most other ships in the game, perhaps its time people put their big boy learning pants on eh
  11. Forgot that this was going on tonight though was able to catch 3 or 4 games starting at around the middle of the event. Had fun in each of them, stacked teams both sides. Hard fought matches all. Anyways thx to everyone, got to face off quite a few people ive "solo queued" against over the last couple weeks. Felt great to be with teams that worked together, swapped ships and stats. and without any voice managed peels, coordinated pushes, retreats, buffing etc On a side note, being solo queue my lateness didn't affect my would be teammates. Something to be said about this, not as much control over match quality, but still great matches. Its a little hard to "stack skill" with an event like this, giving a greater chance that people are taken out of their comfort zones.
  12. http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=770330&highlight=rings+orbs Rings and orbs is the go-to tutorial for companies that don't want to design full AI. Nothing can replace AI though, and if AI were implemented then we could easily have some sort of PvE GSF (which quite a few people have asked for) Rings and orb tutorials have been around for ages, pilotwings comes to mind as well as other flight based games. In that post I outline how they can deal with missile breaks, power management, and other tactical based training. Most of the assets are already in game (IE reusing mines as orbs) leaving only the rings to be added (which would be dirt cheap and take almost no time) Additions like accuracy ratings and ring completion %'s would take a little more work, the suggestion really is lean though. They can use most of the old tutorial and revamp some things based on suggestions. it wouldnt teach them about how to deal with unfriendly abilities, but im sure something could be worked up for that. IE orbs that use disto etc. Anyways just wanted to drag this back up, every time someone mentioned a new tutorial I think of the linked post (which never seems to get any serious attention from anyone lol)
  13. So, been trying to get into ranked pvp with my sniper and am having a terrible time. Originally I went with marks, since i knew the shot rotation and understood how to play the class. Marks required too much cover time (rooted) to be effective IMO. Most of the time I was whittled down and focused before I could really do anything. Recently I decided to go eng, since a lot of it is instants (allowing you to be mobile) but I have had very little if any improvement. Each round is the same thing (no healer) I am insta targeted and smashed quickly while doing very little damage. Most classes are able to ignore my snares, stuns, and slows long enough to stay in my face, and despite using entrench I am often stun locked and dead before the stuns breaks. Even with a healer I get focused down fast, before I can really make a contribution. All this being said, can you guys offer me some tips to help me be less of a scrub? Is eng a good choice? If so what it the right shot combination? How should I go about positioning? Typically I try to stay as far away as I can, using leg shot and roll to maintain distance and stuns / flashbang to get some breathing room. None of this really seems to work though, most rounds it feels like there is literally nothing I can do to stop damage or keep away. On a side not my gear is about 3/4th t2 and the rest t1 pvp.
  14. Your correct, we dont even have a cartel version of the minelayer (which is about the time they stopped supporting GSF with all their heart) That being said I still enjoy GSF and have paid to unlock the cartel ships available to us, as well as all the colors / dyes / etc. as to your questions: 1) The cartel ships are exact replicas of existing ships, basically they are re-skins. They also allow you to have two versions of the same ship on your active hanger at any time. I do not suggest buying the cartel strike fighter (gladiator) as you won't really need two of these (same thing with the cartel GS, no reason to have 2 on your bar) I do however suggest picking up the cartel scout and bomber (ocula and onslaught) having two versions of these ships can be helpful. You can setup one typical scout and one quads and pods, the bomber also has alternate builds worth merit. 2.) The paint jobs and color modules are typically lackluster. They look best on the scout and GS IMO, bomber aint bad either. We have been screaming for those paintjobs that have eyes and a moutj (much like ww2 planes) but they have fallen on deaf ears. I am however a collector so I bought all these for very cheap off the GTN (and continue to do so when I see ones I don't have) 3.) Bolt and Engine colors are cool IMO. I play a lot of GSF and always notice the bolt and engine color, helps me to immediately recognize certain people even before I read their name. These I also purchase off the GTN for cheap, I have spent CC's on these as well. I love to match paint job, blaster, and reactants in a variety of ways. All that being said there is A LOT more they could do with customization but it appears that they don't care enough about GSF to monetize it properly. I would pay real money for new cartel ships chassis / paints / bolts / reactants / colors etc..... despite me throwing my wallet at them they don't appear to care or want the money *shrug*
  15. I loved BF2 space battles. It was not as good as gsf space battles mind you, but it did have a very strong starwars feel. Being able to transition between ground and space (aka landing in the hanger to assault systems from within) was a stroke of genius as well. I also enjoyed using the ships and other debris to fly/hide in giving the game that deathstar canyon run feel at times. My biggest problem with BF2 space battles was the servers. They were run by very regular people, and at times this caused issues. Most of the time when I found a good server I would be banned within a couple days for "hacking" or "cheating" which was never the case, it was that I focused the wrong person aka the server admin As to RNG in GSF, no its not the greatest choice (ie it turns people away who dont understand whats happening) but it is now the central pillar of "damage mitigation" . Everything is balanced around accuracy, tracking penalty, and evasion. If RNG were suddenly removed from the game without further tweaks it would be devastating to the game. TTK would go through the floor and the problems we have now would just be exacerbated. Unfortunately it was a base design choice, and despite wracking my brain I can't find a way to balance the game without at least evasion in the mix (since we lack actual damage reduction, absorb, deflection, or other mechanic that might replace it) IMO they should remove tracking penalty (IE the arc) and make accuracy a sliding linear curve based on distance. They should remove the tracking penalty for both missiles and blasters. In addition to this they should add an accuracy indicator as part of the hud. It would show your true accuracy #'s in real time. This could also be a toggle for newbies with a green to red fading indicator showing if a hit is likely or unlikely. At least with this people would understand without reading the forums, playing hundreds of games, or really delving into components what accuracy is and how it relates to them getting a hit. IMO RNG might be intractable, but at least the tracking penalty could go away (and this would single handedly increase the value of all weapons, even without further tweaks)
