You could activate it on a road, that is visible on map, then turn on the auto run and your character would start moving on the road in the direction you are facing. It would be great for long transits on some planets like Belsavis. Auto run is nice, but if you need to change directions frequently, its usefulness drops dramatically. But then, if you are using a vehicle, which hovers over the ground, you don't care what type of terrain you are flying above. You always have air below you.
