Wishful thinking about the Ion Missile bug/nerf introduced in 2.9

We have no dev feedback on the numerous issues introduced.

 

The Ion Missile nerf looks intended. It's the only change that does. It also looks like it was incomplete- as you say, it's VERY likely they were intending to bring down the cooldown or something.

 

The EMP Field nerf is halfway done- it's on live, but the tooltip wasn't adjusted, just the actual data value. It may or may not be intended.

 

 

Both of these nerfs are to niche components that should never have been nerfed, even slightly. They are so far away from being forces in the meta- the EMP field in particular is one of the few things giving the Type 1 Scout a sense of power and uniqueness. Ion Missile was a reasonable snare if fully talented, and it's fair to point out that it's substantially better than the option to the right of it, but MANY weapons have issues like that, and are ubiquitous and in some cases even disruptive. Ion Missile was hard enough to justify before, and now IMO it can't really be at all.

 

The nerfs seem like we got a partially complete XML that was being messed with in testing, and then the whole team was just flat out pulled over to Galactic Doll House Obsolete Raid Motivator ("GD-HORN"). They ARE in Texas, they might do code locks like that, I dunno their corporate values.

 

The other thing telling us that this is crap is that several XML values were broken- replaced with garbage characters. Check your plasma railgun tooltip on live:

 

"Fires a plasma bolt that deals 900 damage on impact and deals 900 damage over"

 

Uhh...

 

The data error is that the "6" seconds (and it still deals damage over 6 seconds) was replaced with something else, probably as a mirror to a code change that never manifested. The thing SHOULD say:

 

 

"Fires a plasma bolt that deals 900 damage on impact and deals 900 damage over 6 seconds. The damage done will be reduced if the railgun is not fully charged when it is fired, and the railgun will fail to fire if below 25% charge."

 

That is a LOT to leave out. Similarly effected are sabotage probe (which also still has the bug with the snare talent), claiming to deal damage over 0 seconds, and something else, I forget. It's in my cry post.

It's true that the effect is low, but here's the problems:

 

1)- The two changes we did get were really out of the blue. Marginal components don't need nerfs, after all.

2)- Only the ion nerf updated both the tooltip and the effect. The EMP change is the effect with a lying tooltip, and several components were unchanged but got broken tooltips.

3)- None of this was in the patch notes.
