The Sith Empire Rules.

Keleth Urr, a Sith Lord who tried to spread the ways of the light, was imprisoned by the Sith Emperor in the Dark Temple for his heresy. And it is clear that the Sith Empire wanted his teachings completely destroyed. So yes, I'd definitely say it is heresy, remembering that the conflict between the Jedi and Sith is predominately a philosophical one.

It's a philosophical one mostly after the swtor's timeline and before+ during the Hundred Years Darkness+ Jedi Civil War.At this(swtor's) time nationalism and loyalty to one's ''country'' and species is involved along with the philosophical one.

I think it depends on who is in charge. For the specifics of the SWTOR universe, it does appear to be heretical. However, one constant rule throughout Sith history is looking out for #1 - and if that includes studying light-side force abilities, then so be it. Darth Bane studied some of the light side aspects, and so did Revan.

But it was philosophy that started it all, and philosophy that continues to keep them apart - including their loyalty to the Republic and the Empire. Nationalism is dominant currently yes, but also peripheral.

They did? What and when?

Anyone who hasn't played Kotor 1 and 2 really should. The games stand the test of time even with their dated graphics. Knowing the content of the previous two games really adds to appreciation of this one and there's lore there you really need to know.

If you play Kotor 2, be sure to use the restored content mod available on moddb. It restores content that was cut and fixes bugs that remained at launch because Lucas Arts rushed the game to market against the wishes of Obsidian.

Both games are available on steam.

And since it's pretty obvious that some of the people here haven't played, let's leave it at that and just say that Kotor 1 particularly holds some wonderful surprises ;), while Kotor 2 will make you look at the star wars universe from an entirely different perspective..

Straight up. If a Sith, Darth especially, is being taught the ways of the Light Side. Is that against the Empire? or is the Light allowed to be studied in anyway without Heresy or Treason?

(serious question, needed for RP)

If you have the time - read this. It explains the stoic philosophies regarding the light side & dark side of the force.

It goes into great detail about the wisdom of Yoda and the Emperor and how alike and unalike they are - it's really worth reading, it's long, but it'll change your entire perception on how you view the Republic and Empire, and the whole LS VS DS aspect of Star Wars. Absolutely amazing.
