Terimac
Hey. So i'm currently lvling a vanguard and i dont have any plans on being a tank. The thing is, i got no clue which build i should use and how to do a good roation. Should i start with my 30m attacks and then use everything else when they are in my face? Bonus question: Which companion do you prefer and why? Thanks!
TACeMossie
Hey. So i'm currently lvling a vanguard and i dont have any plans on being a tank. The thing is, i got no clue which build i should use and how to do a good roation. Should i start with my 30m attacks and then use everything else when they are in my face? Bonus question: Which companion do you prefer and why? Thanks! When closing from 30 meters, throw a sticky grenade, then auto-attack till you get in range. I have end game guides for both DPS specs in my signature I think the best trooper companions are HK51 and Treek, however Elara + Jorgan do have their uses if you can't get HK51 or treek. Treek is especially good, since you can put tank or PvP gear on her while DPSing or vice versa and the dailies go really smoothly, though Im using HK51 because he blows up the oricon daily bosses so quickly that I dont need healing or tanking anyway. Oh and when levelling... What level are you currently at? That helps with the rest of the process of picking out a skill tree and point allocation. EDIT - Stuff it, level 25-44 vanguard guide, coming up! Start with the following tree: http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#801ZZfhbrzo.3 End with the following tree: http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#801ZZfhbrzRrffd.3 Acronyms. IP = Ion Pulse SS = Stockstrike HiB = High Impact Bolt IR = Incendiary Round HS = Hammer Shots Rotation: IR -> IP -> SS -> HiB -> IP -> HS -> IP -> HiB -> SS -> HS -> IP -> HiB Ionic Accelerator will get a 100% proc rate that way, stay away from alacrity. Great DPS, completely mobile. For AoE, occasionally mix in Mortar Volley, Flamethrower or Explosive Surge on the mobs. Terimac
Thanks alot for the help! I just got another question, why assault specialist over tactics? What's their pros and cons?
xxSHOONYxx
Thanks alot for the help! I just got another question, why assault specialist over tactics? What's their pros and cons? From 25-31 Assault specialist is much better than Tactics because you have the HIB proc every 6 seconds. From 31 on (in tactics) you can get pulse generator which will melt groups of adds very fast. But in general: Tactics: AoE heavy, great for killing trash but lower single target damage, especially until you get fire pulse. Assault: Much higher single target damage, but on trash a lot of your damage will be wasted. I don't remember the last time (on non-bosses) I was actually able to get all my DoTs on a target and start a rotation. Edit: For companions I exclusively use droids, either HK or 4X. 4X mainly because he reminds me of a mini Liberty Prime Edited July 4, 2014 by xxSHOONYxx
TACeMossie
Thanks alot for the help! I just got another question, why assault specialist over tactics? What's their pros and cons? What Shoony said - while levelling, from level 25 to 44, assault is significantly better than tactics in all areas, as Tactics needs fire pulse to work. At all. However, before level 25, tactics is a better spec to level with, because it has slightly better resource management till then, as well as better Ion Pulses, more use of flamethrower, and the increased accuracy of tactics lets you take higher level enemies on slightly easier. Once you hit 45+ though, the choice between tactics and assault becomes an actual choice. Assault has much less set up time, and does a lot more DPS and Burst damage while also being more mobile, but is harder to manage resources with, and has less AoE potential. Tactics has a longer set up time, a more strict melee requirement, and less DPS/Burst damage, but has a lot more AoE potential (which doesn't screw with the rotation BTW) and much easier resource management. xxSHOONYxx
What Shoony said - while levelling, from level 25 to 44, assault is significantly better than tactics in all areas, as Tactics needs fire pulse to work. At all. It doesn't need fire pulse, but without it you don't have much single target damage, and you're pretty much just left spamming ion pulse. Fire pulse is the "glue" of the spec but you can still have great success without it. The main thing I dislike about leveling with tactics is you get paranoid about letting your pulse generator stacks fall off between mob groups, so while you're exploring you're constantly using explosive surge (I think that's what it's called). At least I did.
Vontage
It doesn't need fire pulse, but without it you don't have much single target damage, and you're pretty much just left spamming ion pulse. which is fun for pvp Leveling with tactics can be good for one reason : more forgiving of ammo since you regenerate it faster
