the_kof
There are so many programmers here that have experience implementing a patch....BIOWARE take note of the above comments, apparently they are all experts at creating MMOs. I haven't logged on, but I am sure that the folks at BW are working to fix these issues. They probably want to be free of all the complaining. Im really really sick of everyone overreacting about stuff with this game. BW and EA rip us off etc....this is unacceptable....well, I am guessing that these issues have happened on a lot of MMOs. It sucks, but it is part of life. Now I understand frustration at the bugs. I think that rather than attacking BW for not being able to work, just report the issue with respect. They didn't run over your dog, they just had a patch go live and not work. It happens. I am sure that they are fixing it. I am betting we would hear more from BW if we started using constructive criticism rather than attacks.

I am betting we would hear more from BW if we started using constructive criticism rather than attacks. They are obviously shorthanded. Or the foundation of the game was coded in such an asinine way by the original programmers who are long gone with no documentation such that bugs like this are inevitable in any substantial revisions (pity the replacement guys who have to learn and untangle the cobwebs in this game engine). Or their most talented coders are working on GSH/3.0 and 2.8 is the product of contractors and coders who just graduated in May. I'm sure management could be better at scheduling tasks and allocating resources. 2+ days for a fix is unacceptable- any hint of compensation or some nice swag? But I'm not one to talk because I'll still be playing. Edited June 11, 2014 by Projawa
BuriDogshin
These bugs may have arisen not from a problem with the code per se, but may be an inter-team communication issue. For example, imagine that at the same time the developers patched the client and server code for the game, the system administrators -- often an entirely different group of people, perhaps at a different site and maybe even working for a contractor, and perhaps eager to take advantage of the downtime of the servers -- decided to upgrade/patch some of the infrastructure, such as the operating systems or database software. It is not unknown for an OS or database patch to break applications that use the OS or DB. And it is not inconceivable that the developers did not even know the OS/DB patch was coming until it was too late to test the game software on it, especially if it was a hotfix to, for example, fix a newly-discovered security vulnerability. These things happen. keep in mind that SWTOR is not a man-rated or mission-critical system; no one dies when bugs pop up in the game. Implementing the procedures and checks to prevent them, as is done on man-rated and mission-critical systems, would substantially increase the cost and slow down the development of new content. It is easy to Monday morning QB this, but how would you feel if BW announce they were delaying the patch release because they needed to test it on brand new versions of the OS/DB software they were just informed were being put in place? And BTW, to me a lot of these bugs look like database communication issues.
skyknightandy
Game Update 2.8: Spoils of War is now live! Join the celebration of Soovada on Nar Shaddaa. Read more! I have a question about the prizes that we win. So if we win the same prize multiple times is there a way to exchange the prize for something else? or maybe even sell it to another player?? Just a suggestion, I think you guys should allow us to exchange a prize or to sell them to players that wants to buy them. because I keep getting those speeders I got like 4 of them and I don't know what to do with them anymore

chillshock
Amazing update. I've seen some dodgy updates in 23 years of gaming but never have i encoutered one that prevents one from playing at all. Gratz! You clearly haven't been around for the opening of An'quiraj in World of Warcraft... That was great... when you Zeppelin to Undercity ended up in Stonetalon-Mountains... IN... like IN the mountain. XD Yeah... that was cool.
Kulyok
I really wanted to send the developers a message with my login name, server name and character name(and a list of issues), the only problem was, I couldn't log in. It's strange how different things are on different servers. When I was on Red Eclipse last night(~16-18 hours ago), I had terrible lag, my game stuck during area transition and cutscenes, I couldn't use group finder normally(lag, the icon wouldn't light up), my guild number disappeared and appeared again, and don't get me started on the lag I got when I finally landed on Nar Shaddaa. Well, that, and I only was able to log in 3 times out of 8. But on the Progenitor everything went smoothly. No lag, no group finder issues, no area transition/cutscene problems. I went to the fleet, went to Dromund Kaas, played two flashpoints without any trouble, and even my quick travel time interval(I don't have legacy 50 there) was 25 minutes, whereas on Red Eclipse, it was 30 instead of 10. I didn't risk going to Nar Shaddaa, but otherwise it was fine and dandy, a regular evening. Both the Progenitor and Red Eclipse are population-heavy(1.6 mil) European English-speaking servers, both had standard population, so I really don't understand why the difference. Are roleplayers loved more? Heh. No idea. (Really worried about reports of cartel coins disappearing, though.)

marinereid
I think if you give them a chance to find the issues, then they can resolve them relax it is the first day of the update and they have to reorganize all of the programming.
Starglitter
Mmm Bolstering in OPS is a big plus in my book, because it guarantees group leaders forming a raid, a minimum level of gearing, and we all have groaned at one time or another when we trying to an OPS, even a Flashpoint when we realize a team mate is severely undergeared. It is by default benefecial to other team members because they do not have to carry, at their expense, the under-geared team member. I really can't see what is so bad about this? I really can't see what is so bad about this? Sue I am looking forward to trying it. Mixing up experienced raiders after the 30 Ultimates with new players who need to learn the ops can be good for the game if people have the right attitudes about it. And the next time I get a toon to 51 (later this month? ), bolstered ops will be how I get them to 55.
zoawbo
They did not mention it in the patch notes, so it is almost certainly just a bug. that and fleet pass has a three hour cool down on it even though you have all the legacy unlocks for it
BuriDogshin
that and fleet pass has a three hour cool down on it even though you have all the legacy unlocks for it I broke out those free fleet pass packs they gave me while leveling, they do not share a cooldown with anything else. Just a suggestion, if you have those still around.
ZETA_SCORPII
Didn't think I'd enjoy this event but it's pretty damn fun! Yes it's a credit sink but the rush you get is like opening hypercrates hoping to get something cool. Nice little change of pace devs, thanks! ZutaraAvatar
It's a great update! I haven't had any bugs that other people are complaining about happen to me. The gambling thing is awesome though, it should make up for everything.
par-par
Well, despite good things and bad thing of this version (specialy the huge credit amount i gambled ) I find that there is a terrible awful thing, which is the loss of my cartel coins, in my case there wasnt much but still it is ACTUAL money, you can't just make it dissapear, on the imp side lots of people complained about it. Also the QT cooldown... 30 mins? why!? Edited June 11, 2014 by par-par spelling
MRCTECH
WORST PATCH IN THE HISTORY OF MMOs honestly I have played MMOs since runescape first hit the net and I have never been in a position where I not only could not log into the game but IF I actually get to log into the game it takes over 5 minutes to load timing me out. Fractal_Eye
Boot.ini? (I'd say it's a bit difficult to play if you can't get Windows to load) Heh, I was going to post about the awesomesauce Boot.ini debacle of Eve, but I see I've been beat to it. This update for TOR isn't the worst I've ever experienced, but it's the 2nd worst. (Long story short: CCP, makers of Eve-Online, accidentally deleted peoples boot.ini files after an update one time, and Windows was pretty partial to having in order to... well, boot, lol. Although, I luckily avoided the issue on my laptop (not my desktop, though) and even got a free month out of it from CCP. Good times, good times. ) Other than my initial encounters with the transition and loading bugs, my game client seems to have calmed down a lot (playing on The Shadowlands, for what it's worth). I'll admit, I was pretty PO'd when I tried to play yesterday, but after a while I was even able to do some of the Casino Event (got a Rancor, yay!) and even some Bounties. Overall, I like the actual content of the patch (well, the parts I'll use; don't PvP or progression raid), but definitely a thumbs-down on the deployment of it. Still, you haven't borked my operating system (... yet...), so I guess life goes on!

Clearly, you have never played EVE. And let's not forget the perpetual days of rollbacks, destroying player progress in the process, after almost every single patch of AC by Turbine back during that MMOs prime. I could go on of course, as could others I'm sure.... but the point has been made --> NOT the worst patch in history of MMOs. Actually this is not the worst patch in the history of MMOs. In swg when they first released vehicles it was so bad a rollback was done that didn't really fix the problem nor did countless server resets. For some reason the vehicles when their durability went to zero were not removed or destroyed by the game, but were left as piles of vehicle burning. Now multiply this by most of the players. This swg patch had other problems too. It was a lot worst than any thing I have experience in mmorpg.
Halinalle
Clearly, you have never played EVE. Yeah, there's reason why people suggest that you start training long skill (preferably 48+ hours, just in case) before patching starts. Not to even mention that your ship can be destroyed by your own POS defenses. Edited June 12, 2014 by Halinalle
Reap_MC
I think the win odds at the casino are messed up win the Kingpin machine. win 26 times, 6 times hitting the center triangle and only get the kingpin coin back again? While someone else gets a mount on their third attempt... yea Ok... I'm done with this event two thumbs down for me.
