as for SWTOR and inability to add cross server queues? they would be better off trying to figure out how to let people queue for multiple activities at the same time, particularly ranked and unranked at the same time.

I don't see how this would help. The problem with ranked PvP queue times is that, on any given server, the number of people doing ranked at any one time is going to be small, which leads to a host of issues. Queuing for "something else" at the same time will just mean people will end up doing the "something else" in the vast majority of cases. Combining the ranked PvP populations with cross server queues is far far better solution.

do you know why so few people queue for ranked right now? becasue at any given time, they don't know if the queue even pops. unranked tends to pop most of the time, but going into ranked, means you remove yourself from that pool of potential pvbp and risking waiting a long time and without timer, you don't even know.

cross server queue will not truly fix that issue. on the other hand, being able to queue for multiple activities at once, kinda like the way you can right now with flashpoints. it means you are not going to miss out on an activity. it means you can cover all the bases and even if you have limited time to play - could still get something done. I guarantee you that ranked will pop a lot more often if people are not forced to stick to it only and abandon all other options.

yes, something else will most likely pop more often for them. but even people who only queue for ranked will have a better chance at a group, becasue now they are pulling from a pool of ranked only AND something else.

now. combining both, at least for pvp could be the best of both worlds but for pve... no. just NO.

But you will, because whatever activity pops first is what you would end up doing, and while doing that, you would be (at least temporarily) removed from the queues for the other activities. You'd be LESS likely to catch that 1 ranked match / hour if you spend 55 minutes of that hour in regular WZs or flashpoints.

but you WILL spend that time actualy playing SOMETHING, vs waiting and asking in pvp chat on a fleet for people to please queue up. and consider this. if other people can select both, even if YOU select just ranked, you are more likely to get a pop when there's more people in a queue in general by simple virtue of being able to be there.

its kinda like selecting a specific flashpoint out of random pool. if you could only queue for one flashpoint at a time, finding a group would be horrible and fewer and fewer people would use the system because of it. but when some people can pick random, while others can pick specific, all have better chances of getting a pop, becasue they are not restricted to that single selection and nothing else.
