I hit lvl55 recently and I'd like to go as DPS and from what I've seen, Tactics seem to be better, but I might be wrong. So I'd like to know what others think. As much as I respect Dulfy, that guide really needs a lot of cleaning up before it is worth looking at (there were a ton of problems that I have pointed out). For now, there is another guide flying around the vanguard forums put together by Paowee (GS Class rep who started playing a vanguard recently) with help from both powertechs and vanguards. However the tactics stuff is almost spot on (just a little bit wrong in the area of "how much crit"). Personally, I've hit bigger numbers with Assault, however that was with amazing RNG. With average RNG i've tied with tactics, but if you like a more stable rotation that hurts adds more (see: almost every bossfight in the new ops) then tactics is the one you use, and go with that guide. If you want a more dynamic and mobile spec, check Paowee's guide (found here: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=713289) for assault. Hope that helps you out. Oh and even though Dulfy's guide for Assault is pretty bad and needs cleaning up, its significantly better than the absolute failure that is noxic... Oh and I decided to read through Dulfy's Powertech guides, and it turns out that her guide on Assault vanguards was just incorrectly translated, so if you really want to use her guide for assault, and understand Mandolorian (/joke), then you can use that one. Keypek Posted January 24, 2014 Share Posted January 24, 2014 I switch from boss fight to boss fight. If a lot of adds or additional targets tactics is the way to go. If mostly single target damage going out you want to use assault for max dps. For most trash in between tactics is the way to go for quick clearing. Basically assault will do a couple hundred better dps on a single target. But obviously you get into multiple targets and tactics tears the numbers up.
