Advanced Speeder and Mount controls

Since Galactic Starfighter launched I loved the way you can control you starship's movement by accelerating, decelerating and using engines' boost, and I was wondering how good it could be if you can implement this system on speeders.

 

I mean once you ride your speeder or mount you stay where you are until you press the "up arrow" or the "w" key so the speeder/mount starts to advance until it reaches its base speed, then you can press it again to increase the speed up to 3 or 4 times to reach the max speed or press the "down arrow" or the "s" key to decrease the speed level, and press maybe the "e" key to use a boost that lets you go even faster for a short time until you mount gets tired or your speeder overheats (but makes you receive damage and fall from your mount if you crash against something) and finally press "x" to brake until your speeder/mount stops.

 

This kind of thing may give the speeder racing or just the speeder travels a more interesting and realistic touch.

Ok, here's my take on this:

 

1. Give all speeders an acceleration and deceleration value, turnrate, topspeed, climbrate and fallrate

 

2. Categorize the speeders in different tiers:

Tier 1: STAPs (basically all vehicles on which you are in a standing position)

Tier 2: Speeders (all speeders like the the JA3-Subversive or the Aratech)

Tier 3: Advanced Speeders (the bigger Speeder types like the Korrealis or Tirsa)

Tier 4: Beast Mounts

Tier 5: Pod Racers

 

3. Differentiate the Tiers by multiple factors, like Acceleration, Deceleration, Top Speed, Turn rate etc

Tier 1: excellent Acc/Dec/Turn, low Topspeed, excellent sideways,excellent backwards

Tier 2: good Acc/Dec/Turn, medium Topspeed, poor sideways, poor backwards

Tier 3: medium Acc/Dec/Turn, good Topspeed, no sideways, no backwards

Tier 4: good Acc/Dec/Turn, low Topspeed, funny to ride

Tier 5: medium Acc/Dec/insanely high Topspeed, medium sideways, no backwards

 

4. Let the different Tiers and Models have some sort of Special "Skills"

Tier 1: bigger jump

Tier 2: little boost

Tier 3: the abiltiy to nearly fly, like the taxis on Nar Shadaa or Balmorra

Tier 4: some funny abilities like a random gnarl (Rancor), a little shake (Varactyl)

Tier 5: insane boost, maybe a big jump

 

5. Let players purchase better vehicle skills i.e. improved Turnrate

 

6. Only allow Tier 1 Vehicles (STAPs) on the Station.

 

7. Give some of the very special vehicles like that Avalanche Heavy Tank some very special abilities, i.e. firing his guns (just for the looks)

I think this is a bad idea.

I think it makes more sense for BW to implement a pod racing type game feature instead of changing the characteristics of our current mounts. I want my favorite choice of mount to be based solely on it's looks, not influenced by any other feature.
