Yep i'm still updating from p. 21 fractal :)

 

Also in Harbinger at least, people seem to be adapting to the Gunship spam from launch. My solo q's this week and i've noticed that more Scouts are becoming aware and giving Gunships a harder time. Imp side at least, Stings like Rypere always make sure they "ocassionaly" run around and kill my Gunship as soon as I appear on their comm and sensor radars. Doing that can literally put my total damage done by ~half. I've been running Fortress Shield and even when I have it activated I still die in aroudn 2 seconds which leads me to believe he is running Bypass (1 min cd), ~35% shield piercing which is very effective in 1-shotting Gunships. :)

 

@Rypere if you could get a video of you ganking Gunships, that would be great! I really think now that the initial Gunship QQ is what it is.. an initial Gunship QQ and as people play the game longer, they're able to adapt to fighting Gunships and knowing how to severly limit their damage done. Not only Rypere but I'm noticing more and more Scouts (on Harbinger and who don't post here/on the forums) who routinely blow and gank me out of the sky.

 

Maybe I should start using Barrel Roll more.. Have been running fully upgraded Interdiction Drive and although it is the FASTEST engine in the game for travelling around maps, it does little for when you get ganked by Bypass Scouts. Not to mention the cooldown on Interdiction Drive is quite long.

Same as on ToFN, 75% or so seem to run the Sting/Flashfire scout, which is, IMO, incredibly strong, just tried it today myself (with no upgrades mind you) and did *well* considering it was my first time. Found that gunships weren't really a threat, as I could just speed boost to LOS once I spotted them :D

Is everyone still ok with 20,000 damage dealt + 65% hit chance? Or is 20,000 too low?

 

It's probably abit too low, or increase the amount of hits you need to do so you can't just hit some turrets and get the rest of the dmg with missiles.

I'm not sure... it differs from class to class, atleast for a Scout it would make it significantly harder if it had to be something like 120-150 hits or so.

The best thing is to have different criteria for the different types of ships, but I don't know if you want it to be that complex. A Gunship would have an easier time getting more damage in less hits etc.

By the way In response to Crinnets previous posts saying that my numbers are inflated.

 

Keep in mind almost all of the records I posted on the leaderboards were not extremely long matches. Also for DPS, the longer the match is the harder it will be to keep a high DPS. The match that I got 171 DPS and 105k damage was a win with 1000 points republic side and 560 points empire side, you can also see how long the match was with by dividing my total damage by DPS to give you the number of seconds, then convert to minutes. That will tell you how long the match is, and as you will see it was slightly less than 10 minutes, that's hardly a long match when matches can go up to 15 minutes.

 

Now when you compare it to for example, http://i.imgur.com/mNFvgsE.png , in bossofallbosses game he had 140 DPS and 106k Damage, that means that he had a considerably longer match then me. So in reality I am not the one who has the inflated scores, at least not until someone posts a higher DPS than me, or does more damage than me in a shorter time.

So please stop trying to flame me, it really getting annoying, if you want to prove that my matches are inflated show me a match that someone has a higher DPS then me (Which probably has already been done ).

 

By the Way bossofallbosses, im not trying to blame you or anything for number grinding, I am just using you as an example that my matches are not absurdly long.

Taking out gunships has become a high priority for me as I believe the scout (particularly the sting/ocula) is most well-suited to do so and most of the time teammates just seem to ignore them and hope they'll go away. I initially was using concentrated fire for a co-pilot ability but felt the duration was short and often wasted so I switched to bypass, which as you said is fantastic for use against fortress shield.

 

I use all 3 scouts fairly regularly (unlocked both scouts for use with different loadouts) and gunship the odd match but the ocula is my main ship and is currently using this setup:

In terms of gunship engine choice I can't really offer much other than to say it's not terribly difficult to catch up again after a barrel roll, but for me interdiction drive is one of the most frustrating things to be caught in. it cuts not only my speed but my turning rate by an insane amount; to the point where I turn about half the rate of a gunship, even with every possible upgrade I have to turn rate. The only other thing that annoys me as much is an upgraded ion railgun.

 

 

At present I only have one video up and it's from a week ago so It's not completely accurate in terms of loadout and upgrades but I can certainly get more recorded, I will post them here when they're uploaded.

I was waiting for something like this post :)

 

Not so experienced players CAN get caught in a fully upgraded Interdiction Drive (i make sure they get caught in the debuff all the time), BUT...

 

more experienced players know to not fly past a Gunship when they do a gank. Rypere for example always flanks and eithers hits S or X while he/she unloads with Copilot + Blasters + Secondary weapon. As soon as i notice damage i hit fortress but by then it is too late. Take note when you use Interdiction to quickly travel around the map, it won't be up for quite some time and during that cooldown period is when Rypere ALWAYS seem to catch me the most. lol.

 

I don't think I've ever had Interdiction drive available when i get ganked by him. And so i die in his full unload in 1-2 seconds >_<;

 

Maps like Lost Shipywards is beneficial for Gunships because the camping areas are so close to your capital ship where you retreat for safety. But in Kuat Mesa though, Scouts can definitely catch up to Gunships after a Barrel Roll if they really want to hunt you down.

 

My experience with Interdiction is two-fold, Good for non experienced Scouts who fly past you and bad for more experienced scouts who flank and hit S/X at your flank and unload without them ever getting near for the Interdiction debuff.

 

I'm thinking of upgrading to Barrel Roll know because of Rypere LOL. It's overall a better "twich / oh-snap" engine when you get ganked. Unlike Fortress+Interdiction combo (Bypass > Fortress and Interdiction having a long cooldown). I' can definitley say i've been ganked more times than i have Interdiction available to use)

 

edit: oops didn't realize you are Rypere lol. Thanks for making Interdiction on my Gunship feel useless >_<:p

Overall I think I'd agree barrel roll would be better, I'm not sure what the range is on the interdiction debuff but I think the only times I can remember being caught in it is when the gunship is right up on top of an objective where it hits me when I'm in capping range and nearly causes me to crash with the turning reduction. it doesn't happen often, but when it does it's not fun :p
