does AP really suck against ST in the lower levels? i am currently lv 25 and had a much better exoerience in shield tech. the rotation feels strange in AP. your aoe abilities dont really do more damage in AP and single target it isnt that different too. can you say that PFT is the key ability in this tree and before that its better to use shield tech with oil slick?

What works best is a matter of personal preference.

 

Pyro pulls ahead in the single target DPS early on with prototype particle accelerator - letting you effectively fire a rail shot ever six seconds. Pyro also has a CGC dot, so between that and incendiary missile you can DOT down and burst targets.

 

Tank is always going to have the highest armor, mitigation, and defenses, and it's almost impossible to die in PVE if you play it right. It does decent damage with a jet charge closer and flame engine .

 

AP is a great dueling class that takes a little finesse. IMO it really doesn't shine until you reach the top of the tree though. Some skills, like power loaders take skill points (for extra shoulder cannon rockets) but dont do anything until level 55 (when you actually get a shoulder cannon).

 

Some people do better with DPS, some with tank. What works best for you is what you should play. Do you enjoy being invincible, or do you like burning down mobs fast? AP is a middle of the road spec with better defenses than pyro, and more damage than a tank.

 

Edit: Hybrid pyrotech specs (2/22/22) actually do the best in PVE content, but that will change next week.

while leveling most situations are the usual 3-5 packs or 1 strong and 2 normal. For this situations, DFA, Flamethrower, explosive charge or what the name is, is normally enough

tank spec in dps gear + treek is the most efficient way to level a vanguard or powertech. the real dps powerhouse talents don't appear until well into your 40's, but the stats on gear start to diverge at 20. a tank spec in dps gear can tank flashpoints as you level without any issues unless you have a pre 40 sorc healer (sorc healing sustainability comes very late in their tree) or just a bad healer in general - in which case tanking gear would not have helped.

 

you can also solo every heroic 2 you come across using treek or mako. if you have the money or the credits though, treek > mako. he simply heals for more, does more damage and has a better cleansing mechanic.
