Expertise for PVP damage boost/reduction does not scale to 2018

The maximum amount of expertise obtainable is 2018. At first glance this would appear to be the ideal number to reach if each point of expertise is linear (granting the same value per point). But, actually this is not the case.

If the formula for PVP damage boost is:

PvP Damage Boost = Expertise / 3355 (max 60%)

then 2013 is the ideal number of expertise.

Since the formula for PVP damage reduction is just the inverse:

1 - (1 / (1 + (Expertise / 3355)))

2013 is still the ideal number.

What this means:

At 2013 expertise, a player stops receiving any benefit from expertise for PVP damage boost/reduction. This means it is often more optimal for a player (certainly for dps roles) to stack lower level PVE pieces (which receive bolster) once they have reached that 2013 expertise cap.

The problem:

This tradeoff of using either expertise pieces or PVE pieces is often the PVE pieces providing less health but more secondary stats and bonus damage. Players looking to maximize their bolstered experience in warzones often have to look to get lower level items crafted or farm level 50 flashpoints and operations for the ideal gear.

A solution:

Alter the formula to make expertise give value for PVP damage boost/reduction all the way to 2018. I realize this would slightly lower the value of expertise per point in those areas but at least it would put PVP back in a more favorable position.

----

I will add some screenshots/a video when I get the chance so you can see the tradeoff but currently I am using 5 lower level pve pieces (ear, implants (x2), main hand, offhand) while still maintaining the expertise damage boost/reduction in warzones as they provide me with a greater benefit for my role than the max level PVP pieces.

EDIT: Here is a video showing what this bug allows me to do. Use 5 pieces of PVE gear which provide more bonus damage and secondary stats than Conqueror and Partisan pieces which just give me more HP.

Some screenshots as well with the actual comparison to Conqueror.

Hi Evuo,

You're correct in that there is a bug here! Due to a minor rounding issue on our side, the Expertise bonuses are incorrectly capping at 2013, instead of 2018. I don't currently have a time frame for when this will be fixed, but thanks for the report. We'll get it taken care of in a future patch.

any plans to fix the fact that your PvP gear remvoes any all skill required to play in world PvP?

as it sits a drooling idiot can easily beat 3 PvE geared players simply because of how grossly out of balance PvP gear is in world PvP.

You should never have tog rind out PvP gear just to do PvE dailies... Blizzard figured this out why can't you guys.

Don't play on a PvP server?

The 54 crafted weapons are gaining a huge tech/force power buff from bolster, in this instance versus a 61 modded item I gain 42 tech bonus damage (huge) for 45 endurance.

With this setup based on the previous data I listed, that is 47.95 bonus damage and 1.5% crit gained for 67 endurance when compared to the conqueror weapon min/maxed.

i do play on a PvP server that is why it is an issue.

Just because someone plays on a PvP server does not mean all they do is PvP in warzones... however that does seem to be what the simple people think.

Hi Amber, do you have an ETA yet of when this will be fixed? With the 53/54 crafted purple implants/earpieces being bolstered as greens, every bit of expertise loss to them counts for those sticking with full partisan/conqueror. If people are taking advantage of this exploit/bug they will probably be around 2008 or 2010 expertise vs 2018.
