Misqueue Etiquette, how do you react?

Recommended Posts

So you're that guy who queued wrong, do you switch specs and try to fill the role you mistakenly queued for or do you leave the group hanging because it's not the role you want to play? Not the role you can play?

Or maybe you're in a guild run, and one of your guild mates queues wrong and you end up needing a role filled that nobody can fill. Does one of your guild members leave? or do you remove the one unknown from the group? Do you offer the unlucky pug anything for their trouble? or just the false sorry, and perhaps false hope that you'll offer to run something with them once your run is finished?

You're the unlucky pug who's been in DPS queue for a seemingly ungodly amount of time. You get into a group, maybe it's in progress, maybe not, and the group has someone queued wrong. You're the one kicked of course, so how do you react? should you just accept it? complain about it? Ignore list the players, and possibly the entirety of a guild over the matter? Bad mouth the players in General Chat?

--------------------------

When it's me it's not normally a problem. I usually keep two sets of gear on all my characters, given the RNG it's not uncommon for my offspec gear to be better then my main, so with that and field respec and just play the role I land in to the best of my ability, giving the group fair warning. When I'm on a pure DPS character my options of role are limited obviously, but the chance the misqueue is my fault is just as limited.

When I'm a DPS who gets kicked from the group I try to take it, but some days, when queue time seems to take an hour, or more, and I'm pressed for time, or knowing that it will be several hours at least before my turn comes again I complain about it to the group, say how long I've been in queue, and such. Maybe the group offers false hope, maybe they don't, either way it ends with me being kicked out to wait in queue again. A few times it happened twice in one night.

I check my role before accepting the fp/ops, and if it's wrong, I decline. Simple.

This ^

It's very simple, people know what they are specced as and what equipment they have, especially the closer you get to max level...so check before you queue.

I for one am getting seriously fed up with joining groups where the healer/tank are in fact dps specced and either fail spectacularly to tank because they have low endurance and no mitigation or don't bother healing because they are too busy dps-ing. To say "oh but I get group faster if I queue as both" is a waste of everybodies time - groups containing these people have little to no chance of completing the content, so please just don't.

DON'T QUEUE FOR A ROLE YOU CAN'T/WON'T FULFILL!

If you have field respec and two sets of gear then that is a whole other story, fairplay to you for being flexible. IMHO, you should only be able to queue for multiple roles in FPs once you have field respec unlocked - this would help solve a LOT of these kind of mistakes/problems...

1: If it's me that got the wrong queue, I'll be LOOKING AT THE POP when it happens, and decline if I got something wrong.

2: If it's another group member, I expect them to either do just as good as someone in that role should, or own up to it and leave, or be intelligent and don't accept the pop before you confirm your role.

You have 2 minutes from when it pops to accept. Granted, I may put you on ignore if you take that entire 2 minutes because you're wasting my time, but it's more than enough to: Check who your group members are, if you don't want to run with specific classes, confirm their roles, and confirm yours. I really don't understand how you can "mistake" picking a role you shouldn't be in when you have so many opportunities to correct it before hitting "travel now".

You really put people on ignore for that? That's a bit crazy since you don't know why that person didn't respond. And it's hardly wasting your time since you can do basically everything you did before the window poped up during those 2 minutes.

Yes. I do seriously put people on ignore if they're THAT ONE GUY who won't accept the queue. Perks of being a tank, no matter how many people I ignore, I shall get an instant queue, unless I ignore 99% of the server. Being bitter about queue acceptance comes from WoW, where I'd get to wait through 5-10 queue pops before we get 3 dps who aren't kicking the cat or whatever.

And it's ALWAYS a dps.

If I'm on a dps toon, I'll also occasionally get a tank who's doing what I call "fishing". He'll queue, and then check who's in the pop, and if he doesn't like the potential group, he'll unqueue and immediately requeue 10 times in a row till he gets what he wants. I ignore for that too.

Depends... If I'm on my commando I'll just respec if I actually get the pop, not much of a problem. It doesn't really happen with my tank or healer as those roles will be chosen first always so I won't find myself having to dps.

If it happened on my dps guardian I'd probably just decline.

Vote kick them. You have 2 confirmation windows on before accepting especially when its story mode operation queues to see that you are queued as wrong spec

This precisely. But for some two windows clearly showing their role still aren't enough, or the infuriating "i'm a dps but I queued tank cause it's faster and I want to be carried".

Perhaps the system should only allow you to select what role your current spec is capable of, rather than your AC.

I will admit, ignoring DPS for timing out isn't something I'd considered, but I suppose that's because I know some days a DPS will be in queue for several hours, and decide to take a bathroom break right when queue decides to pop.

It's strange how since making this thread I've had groups where we end up with two tanks or two healers, and they try to complain that they don't have the gear for DPS and expect to remain in group, even stranger is my pointing this out and vote kicking such players is often met with resistance, even in PuG groups where nobody knows anyone else.

Though only one other case of someone having a misqueue and kicking me who was queued as DPS due to a DPS who's class could tank forgetting to fix their role.

Yes. Role based on spec and need based on main stat, those are the two things grouping needs in this game.

My general strategy is to point out, at the start of the instance (generally within 1-2 trash pulls) that the person came in under the wrong role (as a tank, it's pretty easy to tell when the healer is actually a DPS when you didn't get any heals during the pulls). I then ask/tell them to respec and put on appropriate gear (both must be fulfilled; I'm not going to let a KC specced Shadow with DPS gear on remain as a DPS, and I'm not going to accept a tank that swaps to DPS that doesn't actually have a full or near full DPS set; I actually had this happen with a tank that misqueued once: when called out on it, he refused to respec and said that he had DPS gear, which ended up being an ear, a single implant, and a chest piece). If they can't or won't do so, I put them on ignore and initiate a vote kick (I'm not going to run without an effective healer or tank, nor am I willing to carry a tank or healer that thinks they can DPS with their current gear and spec). As a tank, the threat of the DPS having to go through the several hour requeue combined with a reticence to tolerate people unwilling to adapt to their given role properly, generally means that they vote to kick. If they *don't* vote to kick, I drop out myself. I'm a tank: if i don't like the group, I've still got an instant-queue and they're waiting for a tank for the next however long.

This for me as well.

Playing since early access, and only ever happened once. I was on my sin, and early on had both tank and dps selected as there is very little difference sub level 30 and had up to date generator and shield on me at all times, but later on, when you are actually more specialised, I forgot to uncheck the tank role. I apologise and left.

lol u people have such bad luck when it comes to fps, join prophecy of the five, i never find idiots in my que except the occasional person who is under geared

I never saw this problem as well, at least in HM FPs.

It's happened to me a number of times. Generally, the people get stuck on my ignore list so it never happens with the same person twice. Even so, it's not something that Pot5 is immune to. It does sound like, for some reason, it's less *common* here though.

I respec if I need to. It doesn't happen often but when it does I make sure that I can be flexible. I have field respec on all my Tank and healer Advanced Classes. Even on some of my DPS classes as well. Never know when I may be called upon to heal/dps or tank.

If you accidentally que as a role you are not filling it should be ON YOU to leave the FP. Sorry but you ****ed up the que therefore you should sit out for 15 minutes. Sucks yes I know because 9/10 times it was an accident but that doesn't mean the other 3 members of the group who DID que correctly should suffer, or have to carry you.

This all day long. I have field respec on all 11 of my lvl 50+ toons and carry extra gear. If you don't want to do that then don't multi ole select for FPs.

It actually shouldn't even be an option. I refuse to believe that the devs can't put an "if/then" into the code specifying your role by your talent tree.

I'm humbled by all the perfect people in this thread; it must be really nice to be infallible.

To answer the original question, if I queue up and the groupfinder has turned on a role I didn't want (because I respecced to tweak my talents that day and *gasp* forgot my roles would adjust), and I didn't notice it because I just clicked accept while I was in a fight doing dailies...

I say, "Wow, sorry it queued me as heals, but I'm damage spec. Good luck all!"

Then I leave. They are at the front of the queue-- I'm not a healer, so they are STILL waiting for a healer. They can just Exit Area to go back to wherever they were.

Yes, I get just as ticked off at Damage that queue as Heals *on purpose*, but the question posed was how to you handle ACCIDENTALLY queuing with the wrong role.

Apparently, most of the people posting here never ever make mistakes, and can't relate to the question.
