2.0 Skill Tree Help (New Mara)

Hey guys!

I rolled a Mara to level during the double XP weekends. If I keep up the pace, I should hit 50 just before Makeb hits.

Looking at the new skill trees for Mara's, these are the builds I've come up with for Carnage and Annihilation. Keep in mind, I plan on only doing PVE content...not a big PVP'er.

Carnage:

Honestly, I can't find where to put the last two points. Any input? (It doesn't say on the calculator, but I do have two skill points remaining).

Annihilation:

Not too sure if I got everything right in this build...anything I'm missing/should swap out?

You'll see a much better return of DPS by taking dual wield mastery than cloak of carnage. Force critical change from Malice will also not affect much more than your Deadly Saber bleeds, which have enough of a crit buff through the Annihilation tree and berserk, so between those two, that should give you enough points to fill that in your Annihilation build.

Dual wield mastery is a must in any marauder build. For your carnage build, I would say take Unbound or Frenzied sabers for the Predation increase (sets Carnage apart from Annihilation as far as group utility) or the survivability (Something Carnage lacks compared to Annihilation). I would also venture to say defensive roll would give you better value than cloak of carnage, especially since some PvE fights include heavy AOE damage. Cloak of pain won't do you much good in PvE operations since you are not the one taking most of the attacks.

This is just my opinion, I am an Annihilation Marauder, have never tried Carnage but I understand it and its benefits. My skill tree builds have been called unorthodox, but they have done very well for me, so take it as you will.

For Annihilation:

Malice impacts all bleeds including those from Rupture. Currently with 3 points in Dual Wield Mastery (DWM) on the live servers, you will see that your offhand contribute about 10% of the damage for two-handed attacks. Two-handed attacks are about 50% of your total damage. This is all based on the OH coefficient of 0.66. The base OH coefficient is 0.30 base, and each point in DWM is 0.12.

Thus, only 2 points in DWM results in an additional 0.24 for a total of 0.54 OH coefficient. This is an 18% drop in OH damage. Recall that OH damage accounts for ~10% of 50% of out damage. Thus, this nets out to ~1% in less damage with only 2 points in DWM.

Personally, I believe Malice will be important than ever in 2.0 considering how costly it will be to get crit % from strength and crit rating.
