Swerto
We get it, Smash Juggernaughts do a lot of damage, a -LOT- of damage, and their marauder counterparts do about as much. It's a lot of damage, it's not the most on single target, but in an AoE it is obscene. How do you balance something like that iwthout nerfing the single target damage Simple. if it says "Smash" in the tree, replace it with "Force Scream", congratulations, now the damage from "Smash" is only single target, and not hitting the closest 5 people for 8k a crit. You can hire me now, EA.
Tykhelituss
So you want Juggernauts to have a Carnage knock-off then?
Swerto
So you want Juggernauts to have a Carnage knock-off then? Carnage has more buttons to push, and a "burst rotation" to know how to handle. They also have immobalizes out the ***, Rage doesn't. Rage also doesn't hit as hard single target (even if this happens) for even marauders. If Bioware wants to give rage AoE damage, add some sweeping slash buffs in the tree, let scream be their single target.
Tykhelituss
Carnage has more buttons to push, and a "burst rotation" to know how to handle. They also have immobalizes out the ***, Rage doesn't. Rage also doesn't hit as hard single target (even if this happens) for even marauders. If Bioware wants to give rage AoE damage, add some sweeping slash buffs in the tree, let scream be their single target. Technically, they already did buff Sweeping Slash by 20% and then again with the 30% Armor Pen. buff they gave in 1.4. Making the spec into a virtual copycat of Carnage wouldn't solve the issue people are having with Rage. The easiest way to rebalance Rage is to change two things: Getting rid of/reducing the Force Crit bonus in the Rage tree and then adjusting the amount of damage done when hitting more than one target. Instead of doing ridiculous 6000+ hits like we see now and then the silly wet noodle hits of 1.5k on Scream or monstrous crits of over 5000, they should make it so when smashing five people, the player only hits for around 4800. Granted there'd be more than napkin math put into the equation for it. But this would effectively downgrade Rage while forcing players to up their single target damage with Crit in their gear and it'd bring them in line with the other AoE specs in the game without killing the class. No other class in the game can consistently hit for over 6000+ AND be guaranteed a Crit on it. The only abilities that come close are single target abilities and this is an AoE. I will give you the benefit that Carnage is more burst like, but they're incredibly predictable if you know how the tree works. Personally, I thought Rage was fine in 1.2 and 1.3, aside from the Animation BS. That should have been fixed before it ever hit the shelves, IMO. And bull on the single target. They're right up there with any other class. Smash (6500), Scream (4000), Crush (Upwards of 4k with all the hits), Choke (About 1400-1500 a tick), Dispatch (5000+). Most players don't run with 20000 health so you've annihilated them with even just a couple of these abilities let alone other ones I didn't mention. Tommot
Rage definitely needs to be fixed, but this is the wrong way to go about it. It's supposed to be the AOE based tree. This suggestion just makes it a bland version of Carnage.

byteresistor
Carnage already revolves around an auto crit big critting Force Scream.
xxIncubixx
remove the auto crit ----> fixed Edited February 14, 2013 by xxIncubixx
Aelaias
Seriously, the autocrit allows them to avoid having to invest anything in crit rating and instead pad their damage bonus to go with the already generous surge bonuses from the skill tree. This is nuts.
