Why is there no long hair or curly hair in game?

I feel like this is an issue for western developers. Asian developers don't seem to have any trouble making long flowing hair for both male and female avatars. See: Aion and Tera.

Because those games were developed for (and by) an asian market mainly dominated by hormone-overflowing men who have a bizarre interest in making "pretty little girls with almost no clothes on", so they spent a ton of development on that instead of other things?

It's traditional for BAMFs to have long hair. Just look at how many there are.

You can't be a BAMF without long hair. Just look at Samson and James Hetfield. If you cut off someone's hair they lose their powers and/or talent.

Clipping issues most likely. No sure about why there's no curly hair if it's short though.

In other words laziness, which is an excuse you don't get to make when you had a 200+ million dollar budget.

Military Indoctrination.

The only people who wouldn't be related to military indoctrination are Bounty Hunters and Smugglers.

And Jedi and Sith and probably agents since they're supposed to be able to blend in at very un-military places. That's 5 out of 8 classes, more than half of them.

Japanese MMOs have hair down your back all the time, PSU, PSO2... I think american artists just dont wanna deal with it. I hate it, personally. I'd love to have hair like mine on my characters.

Those aren't MMOs. Lineage 2 would have been a better example. Even WoW lets you have long hair and it's almost a decade old.

I've made lots of hair for some mod friendly games and I will tell you, it's a pain in the butt. Even once you get the gravity to function properly with the whole thing you have the issue with clothing sizes. So long hair would need to be modified to be able to lay against the body in medium and light armor and to float above the body - on top of the armor - in heavy armor, and anything that has hair over the shoulders will need to be programmed to go over chest pieces/breasts in various types of armor.

Hair is a nightmare with clipping issues - and more than a few times I've completely thrown away an entire hair project because it was too much of a pita (or released it half-assed because people kept asking for it, but with a proper warning that it clipped like crazy or only had functional gravity from the shoulder up).

As for curly hair, if you want hair that is truly curly from a 3D perspective, you're going to kill many graphics cards OR the hair will look bad on low settings. To keep that from happening you can lay a curly texture on top of a flat mesh, and it looks kind of curly depending on the angle you look at it from, but it's not really curly - which would probably satisfy some people, but lead to complaints from others.

TL;DR, hair in video games is the freakin' devil and if everyone would just go bald already programmers would have an easier time getting content out. So go bald already! I'd rather have a whole new range of makeups and scars anyway.

Or developers could just stop making ridiculous armor with Dracula collars and shoulder pads the size of small cars and it wouldn't be an issue.

That's one thing I hate about this game is the hair styles. The options suck except for women for the most part. Can I get a Jedi Afro added to this please?????

Am I the only one who just pictured Pulp Fiction Samuel L. Jackson in a Mace Windu robe doing his bible quote routine during the Palpatine fight?

Ok, how about everyone find pics of people from Star wars with longer hair. Princess Layla had her hair in a long braid once I remember.

That's off the top of my head. I have somewhere to go, but give me a while and I'll be back with more. There's plenty of long hair in Starwars.

Just the opposite. Their brand of disciplinarian upbringing and teaching is much like military indoctrination.

Hair is but only a small spec of the problem.

Since beta I've always disliked the character creation system. It's extremely shallow and leaves no room for freedom and creativity.

My fourth character, who I designed as a tank, started from the character creation screen. I picked all the options that would display my character as strong like a tank.

However, by the time I got to Coruscant, I found at least 3 different players, whom I've never met before, with a majority of the same choices of character design as me. In fact, there was one player who looked EXACTLY like me: Same hair style/color, same species, same facial markings and eye color. Even the same skin tone and body type. In fact, the only difference between his character and mine was the fact that he was a vanguard and I was a shadow.

So yes, while I do believe there should be more hair options in the game. I also believe that there should be more options of everything else as well!

And yes, I completely understand it will impact the performance in game. But I honestly think something needs to be done to make asset calls into the HDD quicker and more efficient.

The hair has bugged me from. The start, most of the options look crap. Lotro manages nice long and flowing hair models, it might be tricky but that's no reason not to bother on a game like this. I did recently notice that some hair models do actually move with gravity, or at least parts of the hair do. Still, needs to be improved and a barber shop. I stopped playing my smuggler for ages because his hair model changed after a patch a few weeks after launch and he looks like legolas now :(

Actually its stupid.

Its a simple solution.

The hair is only long with no helmet being being equipped, and when equipped, the hair is treated as some other style such as 'helmet hair'.

There would be no clipping other than the possibility on the main chest armor, but that is something they should be able to develop, and something the game engine should be able handle.

So the only excuse is they can't code the hair to not clip into the chest piece, or the engine can't handle it. That sounds weak.

They did make it so you could hide your helm if you wanted too so maybe that why cause they know we have a wish to ride our speeders and see our hair stream out behind us .lol Or better yet our long braids to swing around as we fight and some how not get chopped off. lol

Strangely though you go bald (i.e. hair is deleted) if you wear a hood, helmet or most hats....... so it shouldn't clip too much.
