  1. The Cartel Coin stipend is essentially a subscriber's discount. It's like getting 500 CC off your monthly purchases. That's basically 10% off if you spend 5000 CCs per month, which I can't even really see most players doing. I can maybe see your average player spending about 1000 CCs per month, which would make that stipend essentially a 50% discount.
  2. How about the opposite of "Companion you warm up to after getting"? Companion you grow to dislike over time. That'd be Kaliyo for me. The Agent waits the longest for that second companion (Vector), and if you envision your Agent as someone who's out to defend the Empire and its people, and knows his/her place in the hierarchy, you'll get a lot of negative reactions out of Kaliyo. For a long, long time. Plus, she just dies too much; I got sick of reviving her after pretty much every fight. For a long, long time. That might be a little more tolerable if you're a healer Operative, but my Agent is a Sniper. I was so happy when I could finally just bench Kaliyo.
  3. I don't know if I have any particular favorites as far as companion looks go; I pretty much like most of them, and none really jump out at me as "the best". I'll go through with the romance, male or female, if it makes sense for how I envision my character. I tend to tailor companion outfits around their default looks; I'll only spring for a customization if that look is head and shoulders above the default (as I did with Mako), or if I'm going with a themed look in conjunction with my character (as I did with Elara). My Risha, for example, has her default look, and I dressed her in an Elegant Dress set so she'd look like an Old West prairie wife with her Custom-Built Sniper Rifle and her neo-Victorian helmet-hair. It's a great look for her! My Vanguard's Elara runs with the custom kit that makes her black, because I designed my Vanguard to look like a 1970s action hero. He's a body type 2 white guy with a light brown 'fro and a rather average face, rather than the body type 3 lantern-jawed behemoth most Vanguard players seem to favor (nothing wrong with that, though). I felt that the biracial couple was really the way to go with that player character design. It also adds a little more exotic flair in conjunction with her accent. I do have an opinion on your "outing"-related questions, though... Most likely bi/gay male: Scourge. Most likely bi/gay female: Kaliyo.
  4. Skimpy outfits make plenty of sense to me, at least for Inquisitors and Consulars. Consider the background of the Inquisitor. You were a slave, and you were forced into the Sith Academy because you're Force-talented. Your classmates and instructor know about your background, and taunt you with it, always addressing you as "slave" rather than by name. A Light-side Inquisitor might embrace the visual trappings of a slave (i.e., the Slave Girl outfit) in order to rob the insult of its power over her, while also trolling her Sith rivals by reminding them that a mere slave turned out to be a stronger Sith than they are. A Dark-side Inquisitor could do the same thing for different reasons, to provoke rivals into trying to "put her in her place" so she can get that little bit angrier at them. As for a Consular, a woman who uses her sexuality as a tool can gain an extra advantage when negotiating with men and women alike (for different reasons). Consulars are diplomats first and foremost, so it's not outside the realm of possibility for them to seek such advantages. Also, the Jedi code is all about keeping emotions in check, and it's a known fact that the more sexual partners you've had, the less meaningful sex becomes to you. To someone who's had, say, a hundred or more sexual partners, sex starts to have about as much emotional significance as a handshake. So, I really think that some Jedi (perhaps not a majority, but still enough to make the view kinda-sorta mainstream) would encourage sleeping around as much as possible in order to rob sex of its power over their emotions. And what better way to signal to the world that you're open to casual flings than wearing skimpy clothing?
  5. I'm in <Order Sixty Six MZL> on the Republic side. It's a casual guild. We're RL friends who've discussed trying out some eight-man ops, but there's only seven of us at the moment. So, we're interested in recruiting at least another player or two. We're kind of in an idling phase at the moment, as real life has recently intruded on a couple of our members in a big way. I'm saying this so you're aware that we're not doing a whole lot to better ourselves in-game right now. There may be nights when you log in and you're the only member online. But we are a friendly and easygoing bunch, and we can appreciate the occasional bit of salty humor. At the very least, nobody's ever told me to shut up, no matter how much I talk about my weird obsession with busting out a Dirty Kick on Grand Moff Kilran. My main is Beni. Send me a mail if you think we'd be a good fit for you.
  6. I enjoy the game, and I don't mind people criticizing it. That is how good things get better, as long as the criticism is somewhat constructive. I sometimes criticize it, myself. Even the most ardent defenders of the game criticize it occasionally. And before some of you guys ask... yes, that includes her. I've seen it. I feel some people take it too far, though. Some of the most bitter critics seem to me like they're really not enjoying the game at all. Those are the people that I think should take a break. For their own sake. This is a game; it's supposed to be fun. If you're really not having any fun, you shouldn't force yourself to keep going through the motions; it's not good for you. I'm not saying I don't want these people in my game; quite the contrary. I want them to have fun in my game, or in some other game if that's what it takes. Maybe a little time off would help remind them that there are some things they like here. Maybe in that time some of their grievances will be addressed. Or maybe they'll find a game they like better. Playing a MMO is kind of like dating. None of them are perfect; you just have to find one whose flaws won't drive you bonkers.
  7. I agree; it's not cool. But it's generally accepted as a fact of virtual life on a PvP server. Some people like the excitement of that ever-present threat of PvP death, but I play games more to relax than anything else. This is why I play on PvE servers, so I don't need the permission of other players to go about my business.
  8. I've returned gear after equipping it. I bought an Elite earpiece and after equipping it I didn't like the loss of Accuracy. So I got a refund and used those comms to buy something else. Now, if you swapped mods or put in an augment slot, you can't return it. Maybe that's what you were thinking of.

The only way I could see this happening would be to make all weapons purely cosmetic; to remove barrels and hilts from the game, and just assign a base damage value to each character based on his level rather than on his weapons. Most skill animations would also have to change based on what type of weapon you have equipped, and some would look mighty goofy with a "non-standard" weapon type. Such a change would also strip Armstech of pretty much all of its value, and Artificing of a solid chunk of its value. And sometimes you'd finally defeat that tough op boss who was giving your guild so much trouble, only to have him drop nothing but purely cosmetic loot. And vendors would have the prices of everything but weapons increased, because few people would spend their precious comms on mostly cosmetic weapons before upgrading everything else. And with no barrels or hilts to buy, armorings, mods and enhancements would have to be more expensive, too. I'm sure it would also result in other, worse problems that I haven't even thought of.
  10. I understand the frustration of some of you ladies at being judged based on how you're dressed, but I'd just like to point out that this isn't the patriarchy trying to keep you down. People of both sexes are judged by strangers all the time based on how they're dressed. And there's nothing wrong with it. See, if I go to a job interview wearing ratty jeans and a "Suck my *****" t-shirt, I guarantee you I'm not getting that job, no matter how perfectly qualified I am on paper. It's because I've chosen to present myself as the sort of person they'd rather not hire. And if I go straight to a club afterwards to hit on women, again, I'm not going to do nearly as well as I would have if I'd bothered to try to look good. And the fact that I'd be reeking of flop sweat after that failed job interview wouldn't help, either. On the other hand, if I wear that same outfit to a punk rock show, people will be more likely to talk to me than they would if I were wearing a nice suit and expensive shoes. I'd fit the atmosphere better, and they'd be less likely to think I had some ulterior motive for being there. Oh, and while we're on that subject... You know how restaurants have those signs reading "No shirt, no shoes, no service?" Well, guess what? They expect you to wear pants, too. Pretty silly, huh? They just expect you to, like, know that. Without them even telling you. Now, is that fair? I'd tell you how I learned this, but my lawyer has advised me not to talk about the incident right now.
  11. I don't think robes are out of place in Star Wars. The Jedi were inspired by Japanese samurai movies, like the ones Akira Kurosawa made. I can never remember the exact name of the genre off the top of my head, but it has "jidai" in it somewhere. That's where the name Jedi came from.
  12. Some of my female characters wear skimpy outfits, but only if I think it suits them. And I don't think skimpy outfits really suit any of the female companions all that well. Well, maybe Vette, but she'd be about it. I have one character who wears a slave bikini, a Pureblood Sorcerer. The small bits of gold that make up the outfit look really nice against her red skin. And, per the class story, she was once a slave. Her rivals like trying to rub her face in it, so she wears the outfit both to strip those taunts of their power over her and to annoy those foes. I have two female characters in "Relaxed" style tops. Everyone else on my roster is covered from neck to toe. But if I ever get back to playing my male Pureblood Juggernaut, I think I could see him wearing a Relaxed Jumpsuit.

  18. I got a good laugh out of it when my body type 4 female Sniper accepted the Taris Bonus Series quest from a body type 4 female officer. The thought that popped into my head was, "Of course I'll help! Us fat girls gotta stick together!" Seriously, though, body type 4 isn't fat on a male or a female. A body type 4 female still has like a 22-inch waist. And if you take the shirt off a body type 4 male, you'll see that he's actually a solid wall of muscle. He's a cube with feet. Look at The Kingpin in the Daredevil comics. Or the WWE's Big Show. That's the basis for a body type 4 male. And a body type 4 female is basically Jayne Mansfield or Mae West. I wouldn't consider any of those people fat.
  19. I have the Last Handmaiden's Leggings on my Commando; it's a very similar piece with leggings added. Anyway, I saw a cutscene last week that started with her walking into a room to sit down at a table, and her thighs were clipping through the front of the skirt the whole time. It looked pretty bad. But at least that only seems to happen in cutscenes. Apart from that complaint, it is a nice legpiece! Oh, and I haven't noticed it clipping with the Organa Statesman's Jacket, at least. Could be just me not paying enough attention, but I think it's at least a good sign that any clipping with that combo isn't too excessive.
  20. There are now a couple of short skirts in the game. They both come from cartel packs. Last Handmaiden's Leggings and Regal Apparel Miniskirt. They're both white by default, but that can be changed with Unify Colors or a dye pack. The Last Handmaiden's Leggings has tights under it; the Regal Apparel Miniskirt does not. You should be able to find the former on the GTN; the latter is brand new and will probably take a little longer to start showing up there due to the temporary bind on all cartel pack items.   21. This argument and the similar one several years ago in Everquest 2 have convinced me that tiered class systems just don't work in MMOs. Final Fantasy 11 is an exception to this, as it's from a series with a decades-long tradition of changing jobs and unlocking new ones. And you only have one character per account unless you pay an extra fee on top of your subscription, which is kind of pointless when you can change jobs freely and you're rewarded for doing so with a stronger, more versatile character. The Secret World is also sort of an exception. It has no classes or levels; only skills and skill points. And your character is a blank slate in many ways, so reinventing yourself from time to time fits the feel of the game just fine. But here, the game is much more story-based. Your character is more of a fully realized and established character than in any other MMO, with his own personality and history of growth. Changing your advanced class here is like if Batman decided to ditch that whole martial arts/gadgeteer/detective thing and instead get bitten by a radioactive bat. He'd still be a "bat-man", but he wouldn't be the Batman we know. Respeccing, on the other hand, is like if Batman decided to learn some new moves and carry around a different set of gadgets. Something he does all the time.
  22. Yeah, there's a delicate balance there that needs to be maintained; that's true.
  23. For example, letting Sith Warriors get a feel for both their advanced classes from 1-10 would result in low-level Sith Warriors running around Korriban in heavy armor with two lightsabers. At level 10, they'd have to forget either how to wear heavy armor, or how to wield two lightsabers, in addition to forgetting half the skills they paid credits to learn up to that point.
  24. But that would require you to forget half your skills and perhaps a weapon/armor proficiency at level 10, which is basically the same problem I'd have with a full-on advanced class change.
  25. It may seem like a minor change at first glance, but I really think it'd have a Butterfly Effect on how the advanced classes are viewed. It certainly worked that way for Everquest 2.
