What are the odds of the Rare and Super Rare items Droping in the Cartel packs

I may be alone in this, but other than certain unlocks, in terms of items you can purchase, the cartel packs are really the only thing worth purchasing.

Ya, odds are low youll get the mask or throne, i got the throne along with a crap ton of buffs, both titles, speeders, pets, complete spymasters set and opened a dozen boxes. Sold the throne for 2.4mil, bought a ton of cartel items i didnt get from the boxes for alts. Mainly the purple weapons and the mask of nihilus. Still have a half mil left

I just think if were spending real world money on the packs they need to publish the odds on these rare drops form the packs as it is gambling.:rak_04:

But you're not. You're spending real world money on a non transferring digital currency, which you have the option to spend on these cartel packs. Once you buy the CCs, you can't just exchange CCs back to real world money, so it's not really money.

Odds are pretty slim, I already spend around 50 British pounds, for approximately 35 Cartel packs and I didn't get any of rare staff at all!, thought I got many other nice things!...;)

That's how they make their money though.

If they were selling that Meditation Throne mount for say $200 directly on the Cartel Shop, whilst some people would buy one, the vast majority of player never would.

Now if through gambling packs the AVERAGE cost per Meditation Throne mount is $200, very few people work this out and instead just plow money into gambling packs generating vast amounts of gambling income for Bioware EA.

It's a very clever method that all lotteries work on, because people don't understand the odds and just see the prize, but the reality is that the odds are so bad no one would ever bet on them if they truly understood how unlikely they were to win.

You know if you look at it from a logical point of view win lose what ever you still are spending money on things that have no real world value what so ever. You are pretty much giving away your money to bioware and EA to get a small value add to a table with in a program that relates back to your character which is nothing more then anther set of values on anther table that do nothing in the real world. So in truth you are giving your money ways.

Now realizing this will it stop me from buy CC and going for the packs....No I will still buy them once a week spending maybe 10 dollars out of my pay check. Should I be up in arms because i realized this and am still doing it, again no I made the choice to do so. CAUSE I WANT THE DANG WHITE CRYSTAL!!!!!!!!!!

Well if you've hit any other crystals or rare items you could try selling them and then using the credits to pick up the white crystal of the GTN. It'd probably be faster than trying to get a specific rare.

You gotta ask yourself one question when opening the packs.

Do you feel lucky

That is the sneaky thing about these packs. Though to be fair, swtor is far from the only MMO pulling this scam lately.

When you go to an actual casino, you know what the odds are of winning on the games there because they are clearly stated. If you asked someone they could tell you.

But these bags...Is it 10%? 1%? 0.5%? 0.01%? No one knows and the people who do know aren't saying. Probably because they know people wouldn't be as quick to buy the packs if they knew how terrible the odds were of getting the thing they wanted out of it.

not really. in other MMOs i play or have played, everyone knows how low the odds for the best stuff is in random boxes/packs and it doesnt stop people from buying them. as others have said, you open packs, sell what you dont want on GTN, then buy what you do what on GTN. should think about packs as a way to exhange CCs into credits, instead of packs as a way to get a special piece of gear.

Unless of course the packs you buy contain nothing of value. Example: you open a pack and get an elegant loungewear hood or whatever it's called. On my server there are literally 10 pages of them for sale with the cheapest ones going for only a few thousand credits. Do you even bother listing it? Doesn't seem like a great way to make credits to me.

Bingo. That pack produce a crap load of **** and the stuff thats not rare does not sell.

This buy the packs and sell the stuff on the GTN to buy the rare stuff is a joke. Even the semi rare stuff does not sell for much on the GTN. Theres about three items that I see people want and they sell for ridiculous prices.

Those that want them will continue to gamble for them or get out and grind the credits.

They should make each pack only available for a limited time. That way some could save some of the nice and not so nice items from them. Wait til there are only a few left on the market, like the black green crystals from the rakghoul event, then you may make some good credits off the items.
