Lium Posted November 12, 2012 Share Posted November 12, 2012 Worst. Planet. Ever. There's been a few things about this game that frustrate me, but I've been able to just live with them. But Corellia takes the cake for me. I hope the team responsible for designing this planet is not designing Makeb or any other future world. It has absolutely atrocious design. There are so many arbitrary roadblocks thrown up here and there to make players go the long way around. It has a crammed feel with mobs everywhere, further frustrating the players, and the worst part is, if you die and rez at the medcenter, it's about a 10 minute ride to get back to wherever you were before. The medcenters are way too spread out. The only cool thing about the place is the tram system. It reminded me a little bit of swoop racing. But other than that, Corellia is a world best avoided. errant_knight Posted November 12, 2012 Share Posted November 12, 2012 The difficulty in moving around adds to the warzone feel, imo. Bombed out roads, roadblocks, etc are perfectly in context. Lium Posted November 12, 2012 Author Share Posted November 12, 2012 I did feel crammed on Nar Shaddaa. In fact, I had that crammed feeling on all the worlds not named Hoth or Tatooine. It's one of the many drawbacks of this game. But it was far worse on Corellia. The war zone theme just made it more vertical, instead of horizontal. And again, way too many roadblocks and obstacles. Corellia is a planet under siege, it should be hard to get around. I admit I didn't like it initially for the same reasons but after going there on a few different characters I've grown to love it. It's an impressive place with it's mile high sky scrapers with chunks missing out of them. But with it's open sky I find it less cramped than Nar Shadda or Coruscant and I love the tram system. Nothing like it on any other world. The med center thing, I'll give you that. It is annoying to die and have a 10 minute travel time back to where you were. Took me a long time , mind you running through the same story again with my friends IA , it was a lot easier as I had spent a long time months ago doing it. Made me shudder though doing it again last night ( brought back the anguish ). They obviously rushed the final touches to the planet to get it ready for Christmas 2011. Cheers, BadOrb. I liked much what I was seeing, I even stopped playing and looked around to find a nice spot for a nce landscape and sky screenshot. About the layout the map, It does not bother me. I don't think every zone should be designed to be walked through from and to all directions. I like diversity, from "mazy" to large open areas. THEN go back to Corellia. It is a completely different feeling when you faceroll everything. But I wouldn't blame this game's world designers as much as the game's map artist(s?), the mission finder's designer, and the game engine itself, at least I'm guessing that's what caused the ridiculous amount of sameness across the different game worlds. The static worlds are the worst part of the game. We need Mobs moving around with a purposeDay/NightChanging weatherFuture quests less along the lines of "go fetch X" or "go kill x".Questing that encourages Republic players going in Empire territory and vis versa. The people who made the worlds and ambient background sounds etyc did a great job, who ever put in all the mobs did a ****** job.No immersion what so ever, but we know they dont care about immersion. arunav Posted November 12, 2012 Share Posted November 12, 2012 It's not supposed to be easy to get around - it's a cityscape war zone! Design-wise, it looks great and is one of the better planets in the game, imo. On my first character, I did find navigating the shipyard area a little frustrating, but it was more me than the planet. If you look at your map closely, it isn't difficult to see how to get to a given point. In short: planet designed well for what it is, take a look at your map more often if you're having difficulty getting from point to point - the paths are clearly indicated on it. Since then, I make it my mission to ding 50 on voss, which is quite easy actually, and only ever go there to do the class mission/s, but I even dread having to go there to do them. It just feels way too contrived. Even though Nar Shadda also feels contrived, it gets away with it somewhat because the promenade and casinos are floating in space, so using taxis out to the areas feels ok, also, once at each of the areas, they have a reasonable flow to them. Yep. Cant dispute this. When i first hit that planet in Dec last yr I couldnt count how many times i randomly died while riding the tram. Dunno and dont care if that ever got fixed. Did my fair share of blackhole dailies and ..yeah i got tired of being stuck on a black screen after hitting the shuttle to whatever destination. The medcenters are way too spread out. I have to agree with all of this. It's the land of You Can't Get There From Here. And because you can only "discover" one pixel every mile on a new map, and the maps don't show what goes under when you needed to go over, you're continually having to drive around in circles for half an hour or backtrack through 50,000 mobs trying to get somewhere that is three hexes away from where you started.
