Legacy Gear

You don't create it. As the item says, there's a vendor on coruscant.

Go to coruscant, go to the big plaza right in front of the senate building, find the vendors right in front of the left (looking at the senate building) entrance to the underground area, click on the legacy item you want, presto.

What TalantMAJR wrote is correct.

Indeed the "construction kit" term is misleading, but it's only a token you exchange for the gear you want.

there will be 4 vendors (one for each class), and you're only able to buy from the vendor corresponding to your character's own class. So send the construction kit to the character you want to use it for.

So how do I do this without selling them the token? Click the item I want, and then click the token?

you have to give them the token to get an item. basically some vendors take certain items instead of credits, in this case you give them the inheritance token

Well the main point of these legacy construction kits, that has not yet been said in this thread, only vaguely hinted, is that they are not for gearing the characters with which you did first get them.

So do not waste time going to Coruscant with that character as it is likely too high level to have any use for any of the stuff you could buy with them.

Instead go to the nearest Mailbox in where ever you are, and send the "Construction Kits" to one of your low level alts in the same legacy (or if you don't have any low level characters then just hold on to then until you create a new one and then send them to that).

Then for example once that character has reached level 14, at which point it should be at Coruscant or Dromund Kaas (let's not forget Imperial alts) already, you just go the Legacy Vendor and buy some gear for it, which for a few levels will have higher stats than anything else you are likely to have at that level, although eventually you will outlevel them.

and so on...

think of the kit as an alternate form of credits that is used to buy the gear, so you buy it the same way you would buy say.... a medpac, except youre spending this kit instead of credits. Also, if the construction thing is confusing, I just think of it as you asking the vendor to construct the wanted item and he does..... instantly :p It is highlly recommeded you take the advice of the poster above me, as well. these are mainly for toons about 14-22, pretty useless outside of that :D

So legacy... does this mean once you've reached level 50 on one toon? Or is it the completion of that toon's class quests, presumably at 50? The tokens are given to the 50 as such reward, or given to each alt automatically on creation?

Are any of the kits including those purchased with daily comms able to be exchanged for slotted/ orange gear?

I am thinking of dropping high level bound mods into a legacy bound item :).

The only slotted orange BoL gear that didnt come from the two events is bought with credits, I believe theyre about 100k-150k a piece.the inheritance construction kits are not modable.

Your legacy is given at the end of chapter one, and that is when you get your legacy construction kit as well. The kit is given to the toon that finished chapter one as a quest reward. (every time you finish chapter one, you get a mainhand kit, no matter how many toons youve finished chapter one on.) these kits are usable by any class, but there are 4 different vendors, one for each class. Simply mail the kit to the toon that you want to get the item for, go to the appropriate vendor, and but it :D

legacy is given after the completion of act 1 (Alderaan) around the low-mid 30s.

you get an inheritance gift for a level 14 legendary (or is it artifact? cant remember) weapon which is not moddable but it is comparable to level ~20 green weapons.

when a character completes act 1 you will complete a quest on fleet that will give you the kit, which you can then mail to an alt

Sorry, you cant do that. All of the Legacy gear on the vendors is un-mmoddable. (at least the Inheritance and Birthr-rite stuff)

There are sets of moddable Legacy gear, but they come from in game events, which sadly are over. There should be one pretty soon though.

actually, no. you can buy moddable legacy gear from the vendors as well. there are at least two different sets per base class.

Yeah. Just to clarify what others have said:

1. When you finish chapter one of your class story line, you will be given an item called a Inheritance main hand construction kit. This is useless to the character that gets it. Instead, later on when you create another character (an alt), you can use a mail box to send that item to the new character.

2. That new character, once they get that item in their inventory, can go to a legacy vendor. The legacy vendors are on their faction's home world: Coruscant just outside the senate building; Dromund Kaas in Kaas City's main square. There is a legacy vendor for each class.

3. The character can then trade the construction kit to the legacy vendor for a weapon. The weapon will be unmoddable, and usable starting at level 14. It's an excellent weapon for level 14, and will be good until you reach level 19-20.

That's what every character gets automatically at the end of their first chapter. There are also other legacy items that you can purchase or find later that you can mail to new alts. There are additional inheritance items (like armor or off-hand construction kits) that you can mail, also for level 14-ish items. There are also Birthright construction kits for higher level items. All Inheritance and Birthright items are not moddable - once you've outleveled them and got better gear, just sell them or send them to another alt.

If you look at the legacy vendor's list, you'll also see items available for purchase using credits. You can only buy them if your legacy level is high enough. They're very expensive, and while they're moddable they come with no mods pre-installed (you have to insert your own).

The primary virtue of these items (aside from looking awesome) is that they're Bound to Legacy. That means you can always mail them between characters in a legacy. They're really useful for sending high-level mods to alts. For example, say you've got a armoring mod on your main character that you no longer have use for, but it's bound to you, so you can't mail it or sell it on the GTN. You can actually put it in a legacy armor and then mail that piece of armor to your alt, getting around the "Bound" restriction. This allows you to gear up new characters very quickly.
