New Fleet?

I was wondering if i could maybe look forward in the future for a new main social hub instead of the fleet? Sometimes i'll be questing on one of the planets like Alderan and come across a beautiful city and think to myself, man wouldn't it be great if this were the main social hub and everybody came here rather then the fleet. The fleet just seems plain and boring, i'd rather have a social hub with more beautiful sights on one of the planets...

Oh and since the hub would be in a city outdoors people could kinda hang and dual eachother right outside the city walls with a great view of the surrounding scenery :)

Correct me if im wrong, there was some suggestion from a Dev for 'new places for players to hang out' on Makeb. Which sounded like a new hub to me.

But that was a long time ago, plans could have drastically changed by now.

Personally i'd like to see a new city on Makeb, shared between both factions, owned by Hutts or something (like Nar Shaddaa market district) with a direct shuttle to fleet to access Ops/Flashpoints but having everything else there, along with a duelling area

It would be nice to hang out on Alderran. :) But I guess.... the question is... how do you make that Planet or City a hub. The thing about the Fleet that makes it a focal point is that it is the launch point for flash points and Ops. So... you would need that ported over.

Other thoughts. Planet hubs could also have Guild homes. A variation on Capitol ships, but on a home planet. Minigames could be big draw. Nar with actual working Casinos would draw players there for example.

I know this has been mentioned before, but it is worth bringing it up again.

well i'm pretty sure they are capable of porting over anything that the fleet offers to a new and better social hub. It would make the game so much more enjoyable for many ppl i think. If i didnt have to go to the fleet for cetrain things then i would never ever go there and if i could find everything that the fleet offers in a beautiful place like Alderran then i'd be more happy and wouldnt mind hanging there...

The primary issue with making a planet the major hub is load time. Right now, even with a full fleet, the load time is less than half that of a typical planet. The beauty of the fleet, is that it is a single area and loads quickly. It might not be aesthetically pleasing but it does its intended job. That being said, I recently noticed a lot of detail in fleet that I simply did not recognize before.

So how I wish they would change the design of DK and Coruscant to allow for Capital City PvP raids.

Maybe that would help make the Capital Cities the hubs as the Captial Cities of that other game are the hubs. :p

They are low level play zones, not actually capital cities. So all we would have would be a city littered with level 10-15 corpses getting grief camped by level 50s. :p

I agree. Fleet loads quickly, and frankly for a space fantasy MMO, a fleet station makes perfect sense for a hub since play is out on different planets.

But a city on Alderan is not a hub for the galaxy, it's some backwater city on a planet tucked off in one part of the galaxy. :)

We discussed how to mittigate this in the "griefing" thread that popped up during the Rahkghoul event. I wish I could find that thread. :D

For those that have been requesting player housing, I think the going to F2P might mean that could happen sooner rather then later .. or never.

Player housing with its associated prices, furniture sales, expanded hook points, etc and weekly rents is the type of thing that would be a money maker in a F2P model.

Just make sure you don't burn those refrigerater boxes. I will be collecting those for my home in a nice dark ally on DK. :p
