Whether or not the "special project" is still running or not... depends on their internal attitude about the cost/benefit of the project. No one knows. They've hinted that the SSSP is (or might be) something beyond the current on-the-rails system, but other than that they've been tight-lipped about every aspect of it. They said a couple of months ago there'd be more information "soon", but the only thing they've actually announced since then is the new on-the-rail missions coming with the F2P/Cashshop change (8-10 new missions, I guess 4-5 a faction). Would be nice to have a combat engine like Star Trek Online. StarTrek online just lacks the RPG ground combat of this game. But their space combat was pretty good.
