Re-subbed.. Starting to regret.. Played for 10 minutes

This is gonna be a whine post, so stop reading now if you don't like that sort of thing.

Not even played for long, And I got this red message on my screen telling me to transfer, and that I would get items and stuff. But also if I didn't they'll still force me. Now I played pre-launch and I got some sweet names. So I was abit worried, this ruined me completely at Warhammer Online, I got good names there, but it was taken from me once the transfers started. And WAR is dead to me, I don't own no collector's edition, or the game at all, I swear!

So I transferred like 10+ characters, all saying OK at the transfer complete. But so I logged into the game.. and I got to keep like 2 names. Maybe I should keep the GVGKKXIBQQ names as a stand, as a protest.. But I guess even them are against the naming rules, right? Even the names given by Bioware. But anyway, this is really not acceptable. This game is dying, and I can see why..

Argh, I even have last names to match the characters. What am I supposed to do now, other than unsub and cry?

1. It never told me names where taken

2. I have legacy names to match - how to change the Legacy name?

3. RP is ruined, it really is..

4. NO profit whatsoever..

So all this is making me regret re-subbing, cuz I have to find names for 8-9 toons matching witht he legacy. **** the items, ok. I don't care for items anymore, I just want the spirit of my toons back, and possible my money :/

At least I got two low level chars I got to keep the names of, that I still can play, just have to level them up to like 40 like my other ones. What a waste those were.. :S

Unfortunately for you, this subject has been discussed (both sides of the argument) so many times that there aren't really any fresh views to bring to it.

1. There are people that lost their names and care a lot.

2. There are people that lost their names and didn't care very much.

3. There are people that didn't lose their names.

There weren't many solutions offered by the name losers, other than

a. I had my name longer, make the other guy change his.

b. I shouldn't have had to move servers.

c. I don't have any solution, it's just wrong and some magical thing should have happened so that I didn't lose my name.

If losing your character name ruins the game experience for you, then so be it. Nobody is likely to convince you otherwise.

That is true, tho your b is kinda invalid. It will be "force" moved at the end of the month if I didn't do it.. So we don't have any choice of keeping the name and play more or less solo..

So I look at most of my chars as dead now, as I guess there's no chance to get them back to their original state. And I knew the discussion had been going on. And again, this killed it for me in WAR. And it might do it here as well, unless I play the chars that didn't get their name changed. But it's a lot of work getting level 16 and 20 to 40 and 50.

And also, it seems I changed sides, since none of my Siths got to keep their names. :(

So are you in the c) camp? You don't have any suggestions about how Bioware could have handled this better, you just wish someone smarter had come up with a solution that didn't involve you having to change your name?

A could work, ofc. I played pre-launch and took a few names and leveled toons up afterwards. Else C, yeah. Same for WAR.

Solution is clear: Why didn't Bioware learn from other MMOs about this. I mean Champions Online/Star Trek Online has a perfect system with this handle-system they got. You make a handle, and then your name is like MyToonChar@account-name. And the account-name can be hidden ofc, or be implemented so that there's a Star if there's more than 1, or something..

OR

They must have invested and have made ONE server, with several instances, like The Secret World, that's an awesome system as well..

What would you propose? Should the other people that want your name be forced to lose it so you can have it? Stop being a selfish crybaby. Just because don't like something doesn't mean the game is dying.

Honestly, I am regretting the fact that you resubbed too.

I'm not overlooking ya! Agreed +2!

Fresh "new" player getting back, finding I'm robbed, literally, robbed! Of my good name and characters, which is unplayable without a good matching name. Ofc I'm mad, bro!

How is it "unplayable without good matching name" ????

When i got transfered from Lord Calypho to TOFN I had to rename 7 out of 8 of my gang but it was hardly an end of the world event or cause enough to stop playing the game. I did the logical thing: I picked new names.......

I fail to see why you are kicking up a fuss over this, it's petty and a little bit sad to see and if you feel the need to unsub over so petty an issue then by all means go ahead.

I fell your pain OP. same thing happened on my move. At first at the time of the move I kept thinking that I don't care about a name. When I was forced to change it I literary felt a sudden disconnect to the player I molded for 6 months. To help me I created my own little story in my head explaining the reason for the change ( i know it's weird). I told myself I slept with the emperor's mistriss. And need to change identity :)

I wish only legacy name had to be unique and players were forced to show it. That's my idea to stop it what's happening. That way people. Can still tell each other apart.

In the end what can you do? As gamers we always play the hand we are dealt no matter what the game is. It's up to us to find our own fun with what the developers give us if we can't Then we shouldn't Be playing. In the end my story in my head worked for me. Give it a try, and it may work for you.

Either way good luck and may the force be with you :D

This is me resubbing, I'm getting back into the game after what, nearly a year? And this is what's waiting me..

So, you played pre-launch, you stopped playing, and then, after what, nearly a year, you decided to come back. So you say that changing the name of a toon you stopped playing a long time ago, thus don't have that much feeling with anymore anyway, is so terrible.

If you were a regular player, I'd be able to understand (and sympathize). But you're not. You probably use the same name for every game, "re-inventing" yourself every time, instead of creating a new character to unfold a new and orignal story. Or else you just go on with his "adventure" when you're off line, in which case, who cares? His story is mainly off line anyway.

I only have one toon that has a specific name, brought over from WoW, and the only similarity is how the name sounds, because everything else was already chosen. Yes, the name I held so dear in WoW was taken and I had to be... inventive... but this isn't the character in WoW, this is a completely new character and though the names sounds similar, that's about it. It's a completely different character.

In other words, deal with it. Whoever has your name now is more entitled to it since he probably played that character more and longer than you.

Because when I try to play it says: "Your character name DFHKNWTFBBQ has been deemed unfit by BioWare Customer Service. In order to play this character again, you must provide another name."

So I must, in order to play. And also, I dunno who I'm renaming, because when I doubleclick the first character on the list to "play" (or rename), it swiches the background character to my third on the list, which also seems to need a rename. Who am I renaming? This sucks Bioware... All this makes me just wanna unsub when it all turned out to be a russian roulette of rename hell.

I appreciate the support from the fewer of you tho. But accents is not for me, that makes it hard for other to type my name when inviting and so on. The fantasy of why they had to rename is fine, but still the new names all have to fit the legacy name, or do I get to rename my Legacy too, that'd be great.

And to the above poster, no I didn't have a spesific name, jesus. I got like 14 toons I have to rename, and they all can't get the one spesific name. They are all "re-invented" but matches the Legacy names, and now it's just a mess.. Damn bandits...

I believe you can see, and compare, the DFHKNWTFBBQ name on your character list past the pop-up so you'll know who you'll rename.

I think when you transfer your Legacy Name does get reset regardless of whether or not someone else actually has it.

Looks like it's picking a little at random, and not the ones I doubleclick, lol. Good thing noticed. This is really fail by Bioware tho. Holy crap.. Having a fun time playing the ones that didn't need a rename. and we'll see what I do about it, if anything.

Yeah, I noticed about the Legacy. Question is now, since I managed to get Empire and Republic on the same server, they won't share Legacy right? That makes no sense if they did, but I'm afraid that if I choose a Legacy name for my Republic, that my Siths get the name too.. Abit paranoid, I know. But one never knows with these bandits, lol..

Edit: Seems like I must rename ALL characters from top to bottom to be able to play the bottom one, sucks once again. Not letting me choose which one I want to rename and play.. Think this was the last drop tbh..

I feared it, again.. Makes no sense why my Republic and Empire would get the same name, that only applies to Luke and Anakin/Vader with Skywalker, not some trooper and bounty hunter, lol. Nah, death to SWTOR(all servers are Light now, and were full first month). Gonna unsub and uninstall, sadly. It's just not good enough BioWare..

That's fine. Your unsub only negates one of the two subscriptions I brought in besides my own.

The locked servers are light, the populated servers are heavy ;)

Some of the bashing in this thread is a bit needless and over the top.

I will point out, though, that the fundamental point that's being made is valid; the game dropped from nearly 2 million players to about 700k players, and Bioware came under tremendous pressure to merge servers. And when you merge servers, there are absolutely going to be name conflicts. It's flat-out unavoidable.

So, I'm afraid that getting upset about it is not very fruitful. There's nothing that Bioware can do about players leaving, regardless of whether the reasons are petty or justified. And there's not a way that they can hand you your old name because of the way the game was designed to work. If your frustration with the situation grows daily in response to an unchangeable condition, then I guess re-un-subbing is the way to go to avoid causing yourself undue anxiety.

But may I suggest:

Roll a totally new character. New class, new role, everything. Try something you didn't figure you'd do before. And use the random name generator--I was surprised and delighted to find that a few dozen clicks in there produced names for alts that I was happy with, and it really was more satisfying than trying to wrack my brain for something meaningful-yet-namelike-yet-untaken.

I know, you mentioned having some lvl 40s, and it seems a chore to go back, but let me point out 2 things:

For one, you *cannot* have been away from the game for nearly a year; it's only been out 7 months (that's half a year). But if you've been away from the game for nearly *half* of a year then honestly, the items and the attachment to your character should not be there. Not being able to play a character name you abandoned 5 months ago should not be worth the unsubscribe.

And also, since you last played, there's been a metric ton of stuff added. Even if you delete your lvl 40s, your legacy points stay, and a whole ton of single-character perks and global unlocks have been added to make levelling less tedious (and downright fast). Oh, and they've added sprint at lvl 1; seriously the difference that this change alone has made to lvling an alt is huuuuge. You'll finish your starting world in half the time.

Okokok, let me make my point more concisely:

Huge improvements and changes have come to the game since you last played, making leveling fast and fun. There's so much more to this game than claiming a username, and you have not had a chance to explore that yet. Go out there and try something totally new, and you just might like it.

You could just make the Empire and Republic characters enemy's in your family tree and I don't even know how a legacy name wouldn't work for both sides unless you was using one from the Star Wars universe rather than thinking up your own.

I just can't fathom that a user name would ever prevent someone from playing a game they'd enjoy. Would you not bank at XBank because the online username you wanted wasn't available? I agree it was a bit annoying as I personally had used the same toon name on 3 diff servers and had to create new ones, but it wasn't that difficult to do. I do feel more sorry for the peeps that had >8 chars move to the same server, as they actually lost that toon completely. But c'est la vie.

I feel OP's like this are just drama queens, trolls, or pulling a prank, or worse, trying to convince others to rage quit too out of spite (general forum is full of those twits) instead of enjoy the game for what it is.
