Hunterftw
Of course it's how you gear as well and what your class is. I am a rage jugg and have no problem critting 5 to 6k smashes. Surge ftw!
Darth_Philar
4K+ crits are normal against Sorcerers/Sages for many classes since Sorcerers/Sages are wearing light armor and thus have less baseline mitigation.
SweetOldBob
Soft cap is 1100. Anything over that is trivial at best. Even if you had 1300 I'll still hit 5ks selectively. I believe there is some ability or characteristic that is enabled at 1100 expertise, so you need to have at least that much. But the damage graph shows that the increase to damage dealt and resistance to trauma is pretty linear around 1100, so you continue to benefit at the same rate as you increase expertise. See http://mmo-mechanics.com/swtor/forums/attachment.php?aid=282. (Sorry, but I did not save a link to the forum thread in which the graph appeared.) I'm not sure whether its a one-for-one trade-off, but your opponent's expertise will count against and reduce the value of yours, which is yet another reason to keep gearing up.
