guardian or sentinel

im about to make a jedi knight, and i want to pick the class that is better for pvp. so, which is overall the best?

Both are in a pretty good place and can do some solid things, the question is what do you want out of the class overall.

A well-played guardian/healer combo can be outright beastly in huttball or defending a door/turret in alderaan/voidstar. Even without a pocket healer a guardian can be quite effective in the afforementioned circumstances.

Sentinels are single-target paper-shredders that are the best single-target focused dps in a pvp situation (untouched a gunslinger/commando can rival, but the immobility and interruptibility is an issue). If the other team lacks a force dot purge (or just plain doesn't bother to use it-- happens more often then you'd think) then they can really tear through opponents.

They are good at situational survivability as well-- meaning something like stalling for a few precious seconds for teammates to get back to you, or ballcarrying the last leg of the huttball map. The reason is that their bursts of survivability are based on cooldown-popping, so to stall that extra 10-12 seconds they are great, to solo hold off an onslaught for a minute or two... not so much.

One other thing to consider-- I think ultimately sentinels/marauders are considered the popular reroll pvp class right now, meaning that you may be seeing a lot of them around the time you get to 50, so you might bring more unique-things to the battlefield as a guardian just by virtue of their being fewer out there.
