Armor types

This might be a stupid question, but I kind of need to ask.

Is there a big difference in armor types other than who can wear what?

As in would a jugg notice a big difference in incoming damage when wearing light armor that was modded to his stats?

The reason I am asking is that I like some of the commendation gear, but it's all light armor.

The armor rating is different, and armor rating affects the amount of damage absorbed.

That's not how it works.

 

Rating does not affect the amount of damage absorbed. The armor does.

 

With same rating heavy armor will have twice as high armor value.

 

Heavy armor has more armor, not more armor rating.
