BioWare and LucasArts are excited to announce that Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ will officially launch in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore on March 1st, 2012! Fans in these regions who purchase the game will be able to experience their very own Star Wars™ saga on regional servers. Players who have already begun their journey will also have a limited-time opportunity to migrate their characters from their current servers to Asia Pacific servers after the launch on March 1st, giving them the chance to take advantage of the decreased network latency by playing on a regional server. All players who qualify for a character transfer will be notified in early March with more details.

5 million subs by the end of march?

Cool... they release on March 1st so that anyone who got their free month will still be subscribed by march 31st so will be counted at the end of 1st quarter figures... sounds like a typical move to fudge actual subscription numbers.

Pretty obvious what they're trying

How is that fudging actual sub numbers? You either have 2mil subs, or you don't.

If they peak at 3mil end of March, then they have 3mil subs.

So considering they currently have about 1.7mil subs for ALL of America and ALL of Europe, you expect little ol NZ, Australia, Hong Kong (a city) and a state/city Singapore to pull in 3.3mil subs?

K

Hong Kong's population is 7 million. Singapore's is 5 million.

They're not tiny.

What's the maintenance schedule going to be? The current maintenance times start at around 7PM in Australia, and so far there have been multiple downtimes per week. It's pointless giving us a server if the maintenance schedule is going to be the same because it will be empty within a month from disgruntled customers.

America has 313,019,553 people, Europe all up would be more. Let's say 600mil for both at a guestimate.

Thats 600mil pop divided by 2mil players = 3% of US and EU playing SWTOR.

HK and Sing together is 12mil + OZ 22,831,926 + NZ 4,437,900 = 39 mil people

39 divided by 3% = 1.3mil people

3.3 mil needed to make 5mil players, statically, they will only get 1.3mil Oceanic players. That's 3ish million TOTAL (current 1.7mil subs + 1.3mil Oceanic subs) players after Oceanic launch.

But that doesn't even take into account how many Aussies and NZ'ers are already playing.

So it will be less.

Your math is way off...

If 600 mil = 2 mil players, then 300 mil in oceanic = 1 mil players. Just saying. It is really 0.333% of US and Europe players playing the game right now... sooooo...

39 mil TIMES 0.333% = 130,000 players, using your logic. Weaaaak.

So you are assuming that NA/EU has not grown in 3 months. I see 4 million easy.

If SW:TOR pull the same **** to us in Oceanic like WoW did, then you won't get much of us (Yes i'm Aussie) joining.

What WoW did wrong to us:

- They added Oceanic realms/servers, Yay? no. they are still in US all they have is an oceanic timestamp on it, useless, we don't want to play in 400 MS servers, barely able to play with the lag.

- Down time, Don't make it at the peak time Oceanics play, which is roughly 6ish, when we are all home from work or school and unwinding, which was about the time they did the downtime last night.

At the current state end game is at? Hell no...

It will be lucky to hold its current sub numbers considering how many people will quit after their 1st sub month (2nd playing month) ~20th Feb.

I look for at at least 4.5 million globally by Q4......when they launch in Korea they will be looking at WoW numbers as Korea is already going Apeshirt over it.

The Caveat is if Bioware is smart enough to re-dub in the localized language and not just use subtitles.

Oh and once again so much for the whole Tortanic thing.
