Is shoulder slam bugged in pvp?

I can't get this thing to work at all. It's almost entirely useless.

 

The point of Shoulder Slam and similar PvE-only abilities for other classes is to more "heroically" dispatch lesser enemies at higher levels so you can focus on the more dangerous threats. These abilities find a lot of use in flashpoints and heroic quests, though with the number of elites and strongs (who cannot be CC'd without blowing 45 sec+ cooldowns) in those encounters, the ability does seem to find little use.

PvE only is what makes htis useless. I am not wasting a stun on a one shot mob anyways.

It's more for weak and standard mobs who are easily stunned with Explosive Dart, Thermal Detonator, and Missile Blast. Other classes have the same ability that is used as a follow up to their "stuns only weak/standard enemy" attacks; for instance, Warriors/Knights can Force Charge/Leap, Savage Kick/Opportune Strike the enemy who is now rooted, then Smash/Sweep (stuns in an AOE), and Pommel Strike a high health standard/weak mob who is stunned. This basically kills 2 guys in any mob cluster so the Warrior/Knight can instead save his Rage/Focus to fight the Strong or Elite in the group.

 

Shoulder Slam was never meant to be a PvP ability; it's meant to allow you to dispatch one enemy instantly without expending Heat, a VERY useful attack since you will be constantly outnumbered 2:3, 2:4, or 2:5 in PvE scenarios.

Still pretty useless. Not much survives death from above and flame sweep.

 

DFA has a 60 second cooldown, Shoulder Slam a 45. You should alternate so at least one is available during each pull. If you kill fast enough there will be a pull where you don't have either ability off cooldown.

u dont really have too... shoot explosive dart+ shoulders slam = ???

 

Is that the intention of the ability? Shoot a 30m range explosive dart and then rush 30m in and shoulder slam?

 

This ability should be made especially for use on elites and for pvp where it would be an advantageous situational KAPOW ability. As it is now it only works on mobs that die from a good hit from standard blaster fire.

 

Honestly, it seems like an ability placeholder until BW figures out something useful to put in its place.

It's only use is saving you from blowing a short cooldown (punch, unload, rail and such) on a weak enemy. You don't really need to even bother binding it, or putting it on your bar at all. Like people said though it's somewhat useful in FPs.

In fairness all classes have these skills, they have a niche use and that's it. They'll probably never be changed because they have such a specific use and it's something all classes share in some form.
