spydragoon
My friend's desktop is really janky. I looked and it has no dedicated graphics card and only 280W power supply. Is there a video card he can use with this 280W Power supply that can make this game playbale on Low with at least decent frames?
spydragoon
I got swtor for xmas hard disc copy and i installed it and it ran fine , until i tried to open my map/take a taxi/ and instant teleport somewhere. it freezes completely and now it wont even load up i get to the character select screen it loads about 50% and freezes. im thinking it might have to do with my system but would like another opinion im currently running a Toshiba Satellite Pro-100 laptop this is what it says when i click on my system in control panel under system, computer intel® core2 CPU T5500@ 1.66 GHZ 1.66GHZ , 2.00 GB of RAM and under system it says Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3 CAN SOME1 PLZ HELP ME i was a part of beta and i did have the same problems but it wasn't as intense as it is now. Character Name: Zachimai City: Kass Expanse Server: Twin Spears Level: 12 also on it says im running intel centrino duo processor and im running NVIDA Geforce Go 7600 graphics card im prepared to get a new Laptop but would rather avoid it if necessary any help or advice would be greatly appreciated THANKS in advance. Sorry but new laptop is what you need. If you absolutely must have a laptop then try to find one with a dedicated graphics card, otherwise known as a "gaming" laptop. But it would be much more cost effective to go with a desktop however.

Senitive
Hello, I'm thinking about purchasing a new Desktop and was wondering if Star Wars The Old Republic could run on it: System specs OS: Windows 7 (64 bit) CPU: Intel i5 2500 2nd generation processor. 4 cores running at 3.3Ghz (3.7GHz with turbo boost) Memory (RAM): 8GB DDR3 1333Mhz Memory. Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD5450 -1GB graphics card (Dedicated Graphics Card) Thank-you for reading and please reply if you have an answer. the_banana
I'm actually normally the type to be answering questions rather than asking in these types of threads, but I could use a little feedback with something. I'm running SW:TOR on: CPU: i5-2500K @ 4.6GHz MEM: 8 GB GPU: Radeon 6950 2GB w/ unlocked shaders and slight over clock Installed to an SSD. So, with that, with all settings max @ 1920x1080 and 4x MSAA forced in Catalyst, I generally run 40-60FPS, but can dip as low as the mid-20s in some areas. Is that normal or is my FPS lower than what one would expect from this rig in this game? I've turned off the forced MSAA to see what impact it has, but it doesn't seem to cost me more than 5-10 FPS in most areas.
Nandroid
What graphics card would you recommend to play with high settings and not have to go overboard? (i.e. would the GTX 590 be any better then 580?)

(i.e. would the GTX 590 be any better then 580?) A 590 would be better, but it's not anywhere near worth the price premium. Really, if you're looking to spend that much on a graphics card, I'd wait for AMD's new 7xxx series to come out or wait for nVidia's new Kepler architecture cards if you're a die-hard nVidia type. Or just triple-SLI/Xfire some 6950s or 560ti's if you can't wait. Edited December 28, 2011 by the_banana

Right now I'm running on a GTS 250 and I have the settings all on low because of latency and fps issues (which I'm presuming is software related), but I hear people with these higher end cards are having better luck, so I figure why not go out and get an upgrade. But, I was looking into the GTX 560ti and it looks tempting. I might just try that and if I'm not blown away, through another in for SLI. Thanks for the input! Selvune
I actaully just posted this in the general forum, but figure I can post it here too and see if you can provide insight. So my wife bought me a new computer for the holidays since my old computer didn't meet the requirements for a lot of newer games. Anway, when she got the computer, it came with a NVIDIA GeForce GT520 video card and the guy suggested that she also puchase the Radeon HD6770 and have me replace the NVIDIA card. I know really nothing about video cards and hoped you guys might have some insight as to whether I need the Radeon or if I should return it and just stick with the NVIDIA. The game seems to run fine so far with the setings on high, but I guess I don't know what I am missing if I haven't see it with something better. Thoughts and opinions on the cards? Is the Radeon much better? Thanks in advance to any comments/opinions Edited December 28, 2011 by Selvune

Well really you have to have a budget to make a recommendation. I have no idea what constitutes cheap for you or what graphics quality you require to be happy. Off the top of my head I'd say AMD 6950 1GB and nVidia 560ti are the best bang-for-your-buck options available at the moment. Both can be had for around the $250 price point, and cheaper if you find a good deal. Both can run this game at the highest settings smoothly (for the most part) at 1920x1080, assuming nothing else in your rig (e.g. CPU, memory) are a bottleneck. DarthPeterNorth
I have huge loadings for planets like alderaan and tatooine (2-3minutes). But that wouldn't be a problem if t stopped there. After this waiting the HD starts reading a lot when moving between planets areas, dropping fps to less than 10 sometimes. My PC is an old one 2007, to be precisely. Core 2 duo e7200 (2.53ghz)2gb ram ddr2 800Geforce GTS 450 Comparing these graphics to other MMO like FF14 and Age of Conan i thought that i would be able to run this game on medium settings and one or another thing on high, that on 1280x1024. I'm struggling to get 30fps in most areas with 1024x768 and the LOW config. I manage to get some medium settings on FF14 and my fps stands almost always above 30fps. The same with Age of Conan. Both games have far superior graphics than this. Edited December 28, 2011 by DarthPeterNorth

Both games have far superior graphics than this. Your mid-range dual core is likely holding back your FPS regardless of your graphics settings. One thing to try first though is turn all the settings up to high, hit apply, and then turn them back down to low. There are some problems with the default settings being heavier than they should be and this should clear any remants of that. If your FPS is still mediocre that's almost certainly because you're CPU-bound and not GPU-bound - you can check this by looking at your CPU useage (should be close to or at 100% on your CPU) and your GPU useage with a tool like MSI afterburner, EVGA precision, etc. If you're CPU bound your GPU useage will be getting nowhere near full, it'll probably be quite low depending on how badly your CPU is bottlenecking you. Also when you raise the graphics settings or resolution the fps may stay the same because the CPU can't keep up with the GPU, however you should still see the GPU useage increase as you raise some of the more heavy graphical settings. If you're CPU-bound anyway you may as well raise the graphics settings to take as much advantage of your GPU as possible, even if it won't improve your FPS, it will at least make the game looks less terrible. As for the harddrive churning, that's most likely because of your lack of memory. TOR loves lots of juicy RAM and 2gb is rather low for this game's needs. So since it doesn't have enough RAM to work with it'll be using the pagefile on your harddrive a lot and that's what causes the constant harddrive activity. saethone
Hey everybody. Question about my system here. During most gameplay it's fine, but in Warzones and heavily populated city areas I get a bit of FPS slowdown. Wondering what to do about it. My current system is athlon 6000 64bit dual core (3ghz) 4 gigs ram (not sure on speed off the top of my head) 7200 rpm hd via sata geforce 8800gt now, with this current setup, would upgrading my video card be worthwhile right now? or is my cpu the major bottleneck? HelionOmega
I was wondering, when i log off, my screen freezes up, and it shows a screen of the taxi place on nar shaddaa, i was wondering, is it a video card issue or is it my pc. my friend says he isnt having that problem. just wondering, I have an ASUS EAH 5850, and was thinking about getting the NVIDIA 560ti. the 5850 is OC out of box, but have been having issues as of late, as video card is obsolete now. anyone with tech knowledge please send some info. my cpu is an amd athlon II x3(can unlock 4th core and make it a phenom). 4 g. of ram and a seagate 1tb hd. just making sure no pc issues were going on.
