No. read the novelization, Sdious was bending his lightsaber and about to disarm him. Mace realized he was in over his head when Sidious wiped out 3 of the Jedi Council's best duelists in 2 seconds. And Sidious was playing dead after he sensed Anakin's presence. Mace is no match for Sidious. Only in lightsaber skill, in terms of force. Mace loses. Anakin was a bit too emotional for the Jedi order since he was passionate. The Jedi fear passion for some stupid reason which really helps alienate a lot of people with great potential. Yeah, I agree the Jedi order did set up their own demise. Luke apparently drops the anti marriage rule when he remakes the Jedi order but like all good stories there is still a lot of drama and strife regardless.
