Angedechu
I got one of those horrible lower part of Darth Vader helm masks. But it's orange and medium, so I equippped vette with it. It don't show on her portrait, but it show on her in game....

traft
I use a moddable cloth helm which appears as a band, its okay unless you expect the companion to tank.
Vanive
Yeah I wondered this well, I stuck an ugly helm on Jaesa Willsaam which was painful to do
xarynn
If you can get to Social 3 then there is a moddable light armour circlet/headband-thingy available from the social vendor on Alderaan.
Raani
Pets can't equip items with requirements (social, alignment, or class). However, I'm pretty sure they can equip the sets from the CE vendors. The armor difference between moddable items is negligible and the only time you should care is if the pet is a tank (just to give him/her every advantage possible). A DPS/healer companion shouldn't suffer, especially if it's just one piece.
