Threath issues as Shield Specialist

Hi,

I don't know if there has been a post about this earlier or not.

Anyhow here it goes.

I find myself running out of threat allot, to slightly higher geared players or equally geared players.

Has anyone else encountered the same issue regarding threat?

As far as I have understood it I am using the correct abilities with Stock strike as the "back" bone of my damage dealing abilities followed by, High Impact Bolt, Energy blast, ion pulse and sticky grenade.

And of course I cycle my attacks with Hammer shot to keep my ammo regeneration constant and never let it drop below 50%

Even tho I do it all "right" I often find myself losing the aggro and have to use taunt several times during a fight to keep the boss off the dps.

Any suggestions or input on this would be very appreciated.

Thank you very much for taking your time to help out a confused and some what sad tank.

Hi, i have a similar issue with Threat generation.

Since we have no abilities which Tooltip's state bonus threat.

I understand we rely on the passiv bonus of [ion Cell] and Pure DPS of our Skills.

This is a way i can accept but i dont like it very much either.

When it comes down to [ion Cell] i have a feeling that there is a problem with the skill itself. While Shield is properly working it seem i loose the bonus threat-gerneation after zoneing or dying.

So during Flashpoint i often switch to high poweer and back to ioncell between fight or even infight whenever i encounter to have have a threat inefficiency. Sometime it seems to help.

The first i fully recogized this is during running worldbosses with my guild. As a tropper i was one of the highest characters attending the event and during the first bosses threat was going wild over all player attending.

then before the last worldboss this evening on Nar shadda it happend that i switch cells out of the blue and i had no problem at all holding the boss's attention.

Does anyone encounter similar behavior with threat generation?

I am realy concerned about this because there is not so much for failures.

I dont like it to be forced to waste taunts to start fights beause i also encounter situation where some players (even with guard) on take attention during the taunt duration.

(Well in that case i cant tell if the player used a taunt itself to mok me ;))

Ya, this game is currently more like BC WoW where tanks where not guaranteed to have threat just through a regular rotation, you have to use taunt and DPS has the understand that you are limited in your TPS.

DPS also has to remember that many of them have 'high threat' abilities that they need to use sparingly, and some have -threat abilities that they need to be using. If a scoundrel is taking threat for example you had better see him throw up his arms and credits fall out (his detaunt).

Also keep in mind that guard is not intended for that healer that is standing 30m back, he isn't going to get threat anyway; it is for the melee DPS that is right next to you pulling threat and getting hit by PBAOE.

Is always use Guard for melees, the short range effect nearly range directs it =).

The System itself, is old fashioned, "fight for threat",... one have to decide if to like it or not.

So far i experienced Rift uses the same system. Wow in its starting days uses a similar system only that there were Key abilities to generate threat which we dont have here.

Nowadays WOW is a "fight to survive" System where thread is no generally Concern. And Tanking itself comes down to just watch over your stat and react correctly in the fight.

Ist more comfortable for sure.

I can work with the system we have here, but sometimes it just dont feel right.

I dont want to have it easier. Dont get me wrong.

But sometimes the system just feel not to work properly.

And missing information on the fight - target's target Frame or a threat highlight

isnt very helpfull, too, but that's another story =)
