Only for a tiny part of the Holy Roman Empires history, after the fall of the empire in the west there was practically no running water anywhere in Europe and we didnt lose running water and rediscover it in the last two hundred years since the fall of the empire. Holonet transmissions are different, as the emitter may be small, large, or even hand-held. In addition, iirc holonet transmissions over distances used the same hyper-space that ships are flying at light speed through, which is why some very long range transmissions are possible, while others are not (go look at hyperspace and navigation charts on wookiepedia to understand this. han even made the reference in ANH). as someone previously mentioned, lower bandwidth, less to scramble, or push or whatever. Known other civilizations found hyperdrive engines about a million years ago from the rise of Darth Vader. There were minor improvements, but they didn't made a significant change. First lightsaber was crafted about 12 millenias ago from the Sacking of Coruscant. Other uses of the saber were basically the same. They could not duplicate the Star Forge, it was a significant rediscovery. Neither made something like that. It was crafted in a huge space of time which was not limited by a few thousands of years. The motives of a civilization determines these things. This civilization has strict rules about the unexplained things about the universe. They does not assume the power of the dark side which is commonly called the sith magic. Previous civilization did. The known community denies the significant and radical changes. It just doesn't like the change and tries to find balance if something goes far. The Old Republic era has seen too many things that may change everything. Weapons that can destroy entire fleets and disable them. Things that can simply destroy a planet. The Progenitor, The Desolator and the Shadow Engine.
