Assault vs. Tactics (w/Rotations)

Really appreciate this thread and any research you had to put into it.

I recently had to switch to dps for my ops team, 1 man tank content is lame.

Anyways back to my question.

Anyone have any idea for secondary stats for Tactics?

Couple questions. Are those assuming group play or solo? And do you find while you're leveling in the early stages that you find or can buy good enough armor to hold up with nothing in the Shield Skills?

I'm a shield spec but am thinking about re-speccing into assualt or tactics. I find in battles (mainly solo) that I need the armor/shield help to last till the end of higher level adversaries. But I suppose doing more damage to begin with will make those battles shorter... Thanks!

For Solo and flashpoints/operations purposes I prefer tactics hands down, as shown above it has a much smoother rotation, with High Energy Cell outperforming High Friction Bolts by an average of three energy cells per thirty seconds (or 150% for the math fans in the audience). The Fire Pulse stock strike combo is more reliable than Ionic accelerator (which will give free HIB every so often), and has an initial cost of 1 cell and can be planned for.

Assault is designed to be the vanguard PvP DPS tree, it's not reliant on being in melee range, it can perma snare opponents for kiting, It has two dots to add pressure, shorter cool down durations, better damage against wounded opponents, and works best when sustained fighting is not the goal. Sadly as cool as it is, shield spec eclipses it for PvP, to make a comparison to that game it's arms spec during prots time as the number 1 spec for Arenas.

So what are your thoughts?

I see Assault more as DPS tree for pve. Kiting is more easier in PVE and there can be many situations where you don't want to be near target. Then constant DPS depends on ability work well from range. If you look Assault talents the added healing and protection comes from constant stream of damage that is most common in pve.

In pvp burst and CC are more a problem. There opponents try to get close. The Tactics talents with damage migration give huge benefit against damage done while in CC. It can also be combined to Shield tree and Ion Cell for pvp which in my experience works awfully well in pvp with Tactis. Also Tactics dps actually rises near target so opponents pulling or jumping close don't necessarily get huge benefit from either.

But again no expert. This is just how it now looks to me.

Rotation analyses are useless without damage values. A smooth rotation that maintains high ammo but does crap damage is inferior to an uglier rotation with higher DPS. If you're going to compare DPS specs you need to look at, you know, DPS. If your sole goal is to maintain the maximum possible energy then you should sit your butt on the fleet and craft- you'll never drop below max cells.

It's cool you did a breakdown of it, I like that. The only thing I actually have to say is that Tactics is REALLY boring. There's nothing exciting about the tree. Assault Specialist at least gets the HIB procs to make it a little more active.

I agree that tactics is a tich boring. I have been tactics since about 15 (im lvl 33) and i initially did it for gut because i thought the idea to be hilarious, but i believe that assault is probably the more enjoyable of the two. I may switch to assault to test it out because i enjoyed it when i was it but i was low level so now it may be even more fun. This thread has overall been very useful and i appreciate the effort that all of you have put into your comments.
