Dandeon
Right after Bioware announced that early access was moved up to the 13th, LOTRO announced that their next update goes live on the 12th, and that their Yule festival events will be on the 20th. Now I just read AION is going free to play. http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/12/14/aion-to-go-free-to-play-in-europe-in-february/

Faile
There's so many ways to run and finance an MMO, f2p is definitely a good way for smaller publishers with smaller budgets to market to get players to join and then keep them, milking money through boosts and paid features. I wouldn't see a major title like wow or swtor going f2p very soon tho, perhaps free trial after a couple of years once the novelty wears off and newer/bigger games come along. Not F2P tho, that's more of a thing for smaller operations.
