Ion cell bugged?

Ion cell damage definately seem bugged, or is it the tooltip? I just got ion cells counterpart on my powertech and it does nowhere near the damage stated in tooltip, about 1/4 of what is stated which is ridiculous even with mitigation taken into consideration.

Can this be confirmed by any vanguards? easy way to test it out is to put companion on passive and only using normal blaster attack, the only yellow damage will be from ion cell. Thanks in advance and hopefully this catches biowares attention so it gets fixed.

Ok so it seems like its rather underwhelming across the board then, and the damage cant really compare to the alternatives, although this ones required for tanking, so that might be why it does so much less damage. If this is the damage its supposed to do i really hope they fix the tooltip. Hopefully the tooltip is right though and they fix the damage

i don't think Ion Cell is bugged.. if you notice it says it does Energy damage, which is mitigated big time by armor. Would be nice if it did Elemental damage (which is impossible to mitigate besides the 10% from inquisitor/consular buff), but it might get a bit out of hand that way. Edited by Galteos

  • 4 weeks later...

First off, Bioware have really screwed up their tooltips. First off, here's the Ion Cell tooltip:

Loads your rifle with an ion powercell, giving ranged attacks a 15% chance to deal

390 additional energy damage. Increases armor by 60%, decreases all damage taken by 5% and increases shield chance by 15%. While Ion Cell is active, threat generated is increased by 50%. Only one cell can be active at a time. Ion Jolts can only occur once every 1.5 seconds.

Firstly, it's a 15% chance to deal energy damage. Note at the end of this tooltip, it refers to this extra damage as Ion Jolt. So that's what I call it.

Now look at the tooltip for Ion Overload, the 2nd tier skill in the Shield Specialist tree:

Stockstrike now has a 100% chance to trigger your Ion Cell. In addition, when Ion Cell deals damage, it has a 100% chance to shock the target for 125 additional damage over 6 seconds.

From very simple expermentation it's blindingly obvious that all reference to Ion Cell is in fact reference to Ion Jolt. So all the skills referring to Ion Cell are in fact ONLY improving Ion Jolt.

In my Vanguard's case, Ion Jolts should be doing 572 damage, yet they do 153. It is broken. No mob has 75% damage reduction. Also, the damage variance is very low leading me to believe either mob armor is not reducing energy damage like it should, or Ion Jolt is doing elemental damage.

Ion Overload's DoT, in my tooltip, states it will do around 200 over 9 seconds. In reality it does 3 ticks of 89-92 damage, giving around 270 total. This fits pretty well as I have talents to increase damage by 25% and 8%. But again, if it is energy damage as it claims it should be getting reduced by armor and should not be doing 100%.

So yes, Ion JOLT is borked, and Bioware need to change the wording on an awful lot of tooltips and skills to reflect this.

For example, most tank builds include Blaster Augs for the 8% damage increase. I'm fairly sure, however, that this is only increasing Ion Jolt, which in its current broken state is around 10 bonus damage every 3-4 seconds.

Thoughts?

"Stockstrike now has a 100% chance to trigger your Ion Cell. In addition, when Ion Cell deals damage, it has a 100% chance to shock the target for 125 additional damage over 6 seconds. "

Question is does it still do the 500 damage initially and then the 125? That's how I interpreted that skill anyhow, the 125 damage being it's own thing.

I really should try the ion cell out sometime, never used it... tanking was never my thing.

Ion Cell's damage proc and the DoT you can talent into as well the +25% damage talent have all been broken since beta. They only do 25% of their listed damage.

I bug reported this multiple times since last July. No one cared then, no one cares now.

I reported this as well. Ion Cell damage is not functioning correctly or the tooltip is way off.

Bioware has "forwardet my concern to the appropriate department" *cough* :p

Ion Cell, Mortar Volley and Storm should be looked at.

Wait, Storm TOO? What's wrong with Storm??? Are all my abilities broken and I don't realize it?? lol

Storm has a slow animation/strike time problem. If you Storm to someone who's 10Meter's away it is the same speed as if they were at the max 30 Meter's.

I don't know if I'm correct here, but I THINK Force Leap works the same way in the 10m=30m part. Its been a few weeks since I've played my guard. The difference is force leap is much faster than Storm from the video's I've seen (don't currently have Storm yet on my Vanguard)

Yeah, it may be the same. I have yet to have a Jedi/Sith character so I can test them against other gap closer's. I just noticed that it is hilariously funny my character appears to moonwalk while in PvP when Charging someone at a close distance.
