  2. This has probably been brought up before, but.... As it stands the "Miscellaneous" category is usually a multi-page mess. I propose that companion gifts be pulled out of there and given their own category. To improve the browsing experience even further, add subcategories for the companion gifts (either by Rank or by Gift Type). ---- While you're dabbling in the code, it might be nice to have some level-based sorting for GTN items like Crafting Missions. Currently they all show level 1 (that's not helping anybody as a sort-by option!). It would arguably make more sense to show the Crafting Skill level in that location (ie 115, 300, 450, etc).

Apple's cooling system in the early 2011 macbook pros was barely adequate - fine for a typical workload, but anything that runs the CPU and GPU at full-tilt for a long period of time can cause issues. SWTOR pushes the stuff hard enough that it's similar to running OCCT&FurMark simultaneously.... Anyway, I'd wager that a ltitle dust worked it's way into the heatsink fins and that the system is throttling. --- If you're handy, pull the aluminum bottom cover off - it's a bunch of tiny philips screws. 3 of them are longer than the others, so remember where they go. They're *all* tiny though, so careful not to lose them. Then use some compressed air - there are 2 "blower" style fans you'll see near the rear - stick the little nozzle from your can of compressed air in there and blow them out. Then reassemble. Try the game again and I'll bet your FPS stays high for hours (or even permanently... until dust builds up again). If you're not comfortable pulling off the bottom panel and spraying in some compressed air, you can head to an Apple Store and have them do it - it's fairly simple so shouldn't take them long. If you still have AppleCare on the machine, I'd be inclined to try and get them to do it for free. --- The other less-likely possibility, if you got the higher model (with the Radeon 6750m instead of 6490m)... while SWTOR is running the system will pull more than the 85W of power that the adapter supplies. Thus, even when plugged in, it'll drain your battery slowly as you play. I never managed to get the battery to go from 100% to 0 in a playsession back in the earlier SWTOR days, but since the battery in that model is a couple years old now, check to see if the current battery charge is showing really low after a bit of SWTOR time - Apple has some sort of power management that's supposed to kick in when the power demands are exceeding the available power (usually meant for when a MacBook's plugged in without a battery installed or an underrated mag-safe adapter, but depending on how they're actually doing that detection, you may be running into some form of it. In this case, if your battery has dropped enough during play while plugged in, and if you still have AppleCare, try to get a free replacement battery out of them.
  4. As others have said, it can't be done (yet). But oh, we've begged for a long time! In the interim, what I've done on Kira was to obtain various mod-able helmets that show her face. If that sounds like something you might be interested in, keep an eye out and once you've found the least intrusive moddable headgear you can, plunk it on her and just keep upgrading it right up to end game.
  5. Unfortunately not. As far as sharing map locations with your group, the most common way is to share the co-ordinates (which you can obtain by opening your map and watching the X/Y values as you mouse over the terrain).
  6. Anything, really. While levelling, companions will fill out any other roles you might want. Double-DPS would generally make for the fastest levelling experience. If you want to play through the first 10 levels together, either another Sith Warrior or Sith Inquisitor so that you start on the same planet. Note however that if you also choose a Marauder, you'll be competing against each other for loot. If you plan to do a lot of heroic quests (and some flashpoints while levelling), a healer or tank will generally make things a little easier in terms of finding people to fill up the rest of the group. It can make it possible to 2-man some of those things as well if you're in for some real challenge (with companions). If you plan to PvP a lot, you might consider rolling a healer and be your friend's "pocket-healer". Always fun. Or you could roll a marauder as well and double-team sorcs/sages (very fun too). All that said, a marauder goes well with just about anything. Play whatever class you feel you'd enjoy most.
  7. There is no built-in voice chat. You can of course use 3rd party voice chat if you'd like. Skype is great if you're playing with a friend (or a few friends, which you can conference-call in). It's quite easy to use, and free for this purpose - just have everyone install it, share your skype usernames, and create a call anytime you want to play together. If you're playing with a guild, often they'll use Vent (Ventrilo), TeamSpeak, or Mumble . Generally they'll include this information in the guild info, though you can always simply ask your guild if they use any voice-chat (and if so, ask for the server info). The only area where you're just plain out of luck is likely to be in pick-up-group situations - you'll have to rely on good old fashioned typing.
  8. I think your case will take a full-height card, but you'll want to pop the panel and make sure you're not limited to the the low-profile half-height style (you'll be super-limited if so). Beyond that, that case is supposed to fit cards up to 11" in length, but I'd probably look for something that's 9.5" max. Which means you're in for a bit of research - find cards that will push the performance you want, and then check to see if they'll fit (might have to look up each card on the manufacturer's site, if a retailer doesn't give the dimensions on theirs). To be honest, finding cards for HTPC enclosures is a nightmare, particularly when you're looking for something beyond budget-end. You can always upgrade a regular case/PSU if you run into power, heat, or size issues. HTPC enclosures are really limiting in those regards. Wherever you get the card, make sure you can return it if need be. Thus, I'd suggest checking a few local places (eat the higher cost), mention that it's an HTPC case and that you may need to return it if it doesn't work out. They may insist that you don't screw down (mark up) the bracket depending on the retailer. In any case, good luck.
  9. If you're using an AMD/ATI video card, double-check and make sure you're not using the Catalyst 11.8 drivers. They caused one of the black screen issues. If you find you're on 11.8, head to AMD's site and manually download the newest version for your card (the auto-detect on the site is terrible and lies and says you're up to date even when you aren't). If you're on a laptop and the mobility drivers refuse to install, try these: http://www2.ati.com/DRIVERS/mobile/11-9_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe Not the latest, but they'll usually install. You can try messing with the "11-9" part to get newer versions.
  10. I'm curious as to what reasons you were given for this. Having all your characters (both factions) on the same server has quite a few advantages. They all contribute to (and take advantage of) your Legacy. I believe there are ways to support your same-server characters by sending items/etc (not 100% positive on this - might be via mail or neutral GTN if possible). You can make "friends" with your "enemies" a little more easily. For example, people you play against in Warzones & get to know... you might get to know them even better on your other character. The biggest downsides I'm aware of are: If your server has an outage, you don't necessarily have ready-to-play chars on other servers you can hop to for a while. If you plan to make characters of every advanced-class (16), you won't have enough character slots on a single server (8) to do so. If your server population plummets, "all your eggs were in one basket", so to speak.

Heroic Moment bar - an additional mini-bar that comes up when you hit "heroic moment", and includes all the abilities that are only usable during a heroic moment (including legacy unlocks). -This bar would only pop up when you're using heroic moment (would be hidden otherwise). -It would be auto-populated with all your HM abilities. -It should be smaller (similar to WoW's pet bar), but contain enough slots to hold all obtainable HM abilities. -If the player is able to move/shift the abilities around (not really necessary), and if a player has completely removed any of the abilities from the bar (which is likely accidental), it should auto-populate those "missing" abilities into empty slots. -If on the other hand, the layout is static, it might be neat to display all possible abilties (including ones not obtained, which could be simply greyed out, and mention the unlock condition upon mouseover).
  12. RAKGHOUL FUN: -I liked that I could participate while on the fleet station while queuing for PvP (and technically in PvP as well). -Warnings & news terminals were cool additions. FUTURE: -Something like the "War Effort" donations in Vanilla WoW (think it was related to a stage of AQ gates opening) would be neat. The aspect I liked was everyone "donating" stuff to the vendors to help the faction/server.
  13. If you browse through the terms of service, you won't find anything that allows you to infringe on their copyright. They expressly prohibit it. They add that 3rd parties (beyond BW/LA) may own some of the content too, and to make matters more exciting, state that: Now that said, there are piles of TOR videos up, packed full with BioWare's content. And generally speaking, it's probably fair to say that BioWare doesn't mind. It might even be fair for one to suspect that BioWare actually likes it, because most of this content is complementary to the game. But technically, if someday they did mind, there's nothing to stop them from going out and suing all their customers. Except that, of course, a lack of vidz would have a detrimental effect on the game, it's bad PR, and generally it's bad business practise to sue the most dedicated of your customers. But they've left themselves that option. ------ With all that out of the way, avoid popping in any copyrighted music, don't do anything out-of-the-ordinary, and you'll probably be fine. Chances are the worst you'll see is some claim so that some company can get free moniez by advertising on your videos. If you want to mitigate your risk even further (tin-foil hat time!), give the video some weird name like "Cyron's dancing cats video", don't set it to "public", and share the direct link with your friends. If you've already got the tinfoil hat on, blur out identifying information in the video, burn it to a disc, and mail it to your friends without a return mailing address. Mail it from a different state/province. Be sure to wear gloves the whole time. Don't write the address by hand - cut out letters from a newspaper. And don't lick the stamp - it's a common mistake. Have your cat lick it instead - the investigators will be very confused by the non-human DNA and it will throw off their investigation. ------ Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer.   14. Marauder/Sentinel is the counter-class to a Sorc/Sage. Interrupt has a short cooldown (you can keep the lightning spam kicked most of the time), you have a healing debuff, a spammable slow, can leap if they manage to start kiting... etc. However, Marauder/Sentinel also has one of the highest (if not the highest) skill caps, particularly when in the 1st tree (which is the one you should be in if you intend to be a caster-killer). So it's technically the best class, but if you don't play it well, you'll find it to be very weak. An operative/smuggler can mess up a Sorc/Sage pretty well too, though they're missing a lot of the other tools if it becomes a sustained fight. You do a lot of your damage during your opener, but once that's over the Sorc has an easier time getting away than they do with a Mara/Sent - the first moments for OP/Smug are much more crucial. You also have the advantage of jumping the Sorc/Sage from stealth (at full health), whereas the Mara/Sent will often start taking beats from somebody else well before he gets to the Sorc/Sage, or the Sorc/Sage might simply see him coming.
  15. For the 2.5k medal: Basically, your shield has to absorb *all* of a single 2.5k damage hit. So your shield has to be strong enough (via power, willpower), and it can't be worn down too much by other lesser attacks before that 2.5k blow comes. For healing numbers in general: Only the amount actually absorbed by the shield(s) you place count towards your total healing. So if you shield somebody, and nobody hits him, you get nada. It's always been this way.
  16. Slows and immobilizes filling my Sentinel's resolve bar? I like this buff! ...and those healers thought I was giving them a rough time before. I'll be immune to peels within like 5 seconds of each fight. MUAHAHAHAHAHA! (just need an emote that says "if you <something> me, I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine")
  17. The items you're crafting are color-coded in the crafting list (edit: to be clear - the little circle to the right side in the window that denotes the difficulty). If you're crafting items that are grey in color, you won't skill up by making them. You'll have to craft items that are more "difficult" (green, yellow, orange/red). In the event that *all* the things you can craft are grey, you probably need to visit the trainer and learn to make new items. When those become grey, you'll have to go to the trainer again and learn new ones, etc.
  18. 1) Do you have the "Power Conversion Module"? It's pretty key, and some people tend to forget to buy it (it's bought with the commendations you get from space combat). 2) Make sure you're using that Power Conversion Module effectively. #1 when you're shooting, #2 when you're not. 3) Remember that when you're shooting, your shields don't regen (some people don't know this - it's not made abundantly clear). So in those moments where there's nothing to shoot, stop firiing (and ideally use #2 on the power conversion module so the shields regen fast - then change it back to #1 when you need to shoot again). Beyond that, if you're not smashing into asteroids, are using your missles, and are burning down incoming ships as fast as you can (usually killing them fast > avoiding them), you generally shouldn't be having too many issues. Taking a peek at some YouTube videos to see what you can try doing differently might help if you're at your wits end. Best of luck.
  19. Absolutely. Hopefully, they're coming sooner rather than later. But if it's going to be later, I really think they should take every step they can to make the current situation as bearable for people as possible.
  20. You do realize that the vast majority of players in NA are limited to 2 providers (in terms of the actual infrastructure) for high speed - an incumbent telco & cableco, right? And it's rare that rural areas see more than 1. And due to the lack of competition, providers aren't exactly jumping-at-the-bit to make sure that everyone has low latency and 99.9% uptime on their connection. But hey, I guess everyone with less-than-ideal internet in their location can just move. To a datacenter. For a game.
  21. LoL is a great example! (thanks for bringing it up!) And WoW. And STO. And... you get the idea. They all deal with brief drops in connectivity extremely well. (edit: oooh and Wacraft III - heck you could yank that network cable right out of your machine for like 10-15 seconds and it wouldn't drop you from b.net. Or you could pop that network cable in and out a whole bunch of times over the course of a minute while you did some farm hiding. Old games handled stuff so well.)

Just to rule out the more obvious stuff... -were you doing anything wonky with your UI that may have caused the Warzone pop-up not to appear (modifying UI settings/layout, etc) -were you doing space-combat (long ago if the WZ popped while the space combat loading screen was on, it might not show) -were you zoning into planets/zones/etc that take 1 minute+ for the load screen? -any chance you modified your UI and somehow moved the notification window off-screen or buried it below another element? (don't know if this is even possible, but just in case...)
  23. I think the (recently modified) rewards are decent enough at this point. The rewards even for a loss are good enough that there's no incentive to leave. The only problem I really see now with the current system is when somebody joins with 30s left in the game (after having waited 10 mins for the queue). They can either stay for 30s and probably get nothing (and possibly miss the next game), or save themselves some time and leave now, hoping that when they queue they get in the upcoming game. Basically, I'd like to see a "just joined" buff that lasts 1 minute and gives you 1 medal if the warzone ends while you still have that buff.
  24. Agree. Although I'd prefer they simply change the server/client to be moderately lenient when there's a short drop in connectivity. Right now the thing is so eager to boot you, not waiting more than 5s to re-establish the connection (I sometimes wonder if it even tries for anything beyond delayed-packets). Other games/programs just see a "lag spike" and recover. Not TOR. TOR is like the guy who picks up the phone, says "hello?" and hangs up half a second later.
  25. It would work. As mentioned, you'd generally do your class-quest stuff separately. It's often not a big deal, as those story areas can usually be solo'ed. Technically you can help each other out in the class quest areas (the green zones) by turning on an option in the game settings, but you'd be both doing each class quest twice in that case (once for your guy, and again for your friend). It's usually easier for each of you to just solo your own class areas, and meet up again when you're out. Of course, playing the same class is often less interesting. The voice-over is the same, the companions are the same, etc. It depends on how much you play. If it's often, chances are that even with the rested XP, your friend would slowly fall behind. You could of course create an "alt" character that you play when you're alone (and when your friend logs on, just switch to your main so that you're always levelling together). Unless things changed in the recent patch, I believe you can do this. As long as your friend has levelled BioChem to be high enough to use the items you create, I don't believe it will be a problem. That said, you may want to consider having different professions just for the variety. That way one of you can provide medpacks/stims/adrenals/implants for both of you, and the other can make... say... armor or weapons for both of you. This will also keep the 2 of you from "competing" for the same gathered materials. --- Really, 2 of the same class can work perfectly fine. There are both pros and cons to doing so.
