  1. No, you cannot make a last name at character creation. It is like WoW, AOC, CO, and others that way When you get your Legacy Name, you can assign a last name to be used to IDENTIFY all your characters and for them to all owrk on your Legacy Level to open new options. You can display it as Feskit LegacyName or Feskit of the LegacyName Legacy or NOT AT ALL This si how it is. Deal with it
  2. OMG. Such problems over a freaking LAST NAME?? Many MMO's don't even let you have last names Deal with the system as it is Geesh
  3. From Wikipedia: Massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) is a genre of role-playing video games in which a very large number of players interact with one another within a virtual game world. As in all RPGs, players assume the role of a character (often in a fantasy world) and take control over many of that character's actions. MMORPGs are distinguished from single-player or small multi-player RPGs by the number of players, and by the game's persistent world (usually hosted by the game's publisher), which continues to exist and evolve while the player is offline and away from the game. Although modern MMORPGs sometimes differ dramatically from their antecedents, many of them share some basic characteristics. These include several common themes: some form of progression, social interaction within the game, in-game culture, system architecture, and character customization. Characters can often be customized quite extensively, both in the technical and visual aspects, with new choices often added over time by the developers. A few games also offer some form of modding in order to allow for even greater flexibility of choice. Character abilities are often very specific due to this. Depending on the particular game, the specialties might be as basic as simply having a greater affinity in one statistic, gaining certain bonuses of in-game resources related in-game race, job, etc. In nearly all MMORPGs, the development of the player's character is a primary goal. Nearly all MMORPGs feature a character progression system in which players earn experience points for their actions and use those points to reach character "levels", which makes them better at whatever they do.[5] Traditionally, combat with monsters and completing quests for NPCs, either alone or in groups, are the primary ways to earn experience points. The accumulation of wealth (including combat-useful items) is also a way to progress in many MMORPGs, and again, this is traditionally best accomplished via combat. The cycle produced by these conditions, combat leading to new items allowing for more combat with no change in gameplay, is sometimes pejoratively referred to as the level treadmill, or 'grinding'. The role-playing game Progress Quest was created as a parody of this trend. Eve Online (which broke almost every MMORPG tradition) trains skills in real time rather than having the player do anything. Also, traditional in the genre is the eventual demand on players to team up with others in order to progress at the optimal rate. This sometimes forces players to change their real-world schedules in order to "keep up" within the game-world. A good example of this is the need to trade items to achieve certain goals, or teaming up to kill a powerful enemy. MMORPGs almost always have tools to facilitate communication between players. Many MMORPGs offer support for in-game guilds or clans (though these will usually form whether the game supports them or not). In addition, most MMOs require some degree of teamwork for parts of the game. These tasks usually require players to take on roles in the group, such as those protecting other players from damage (called tanking), "healing" damage done to other players or damaging enemies. MMORPGs generally have Game Moderators or Game Masters (frequently abbreviated to GM), who may be paid employees or unpaid volunteers who attempt to supervise the world. Some GMs may have additional access to features and information related to the game that are not available to other players and roles. Most MMORPGs provide different types of classes that players can choose. Among those classes, players are encouraged to roleplay their characters, providing rules, functionality and content to this end. Some MMORPGs offer "roleplay-only" servers that prohibit interactions to other players among characters for those who want to immerse themselves in the game in this way.[6] Community resources such as forums and guides exist in support of this play style. For example, if a player wants to play a priest role in his MMORPG world, he might buy a cope from a shop and learn priestly skills, proceeding to speak, act, and interact with others as their character would. This may or may not include pursuing other goals such as wealth or experience. Guilds or similar groups with a focus on roleplaying may develop extended in-depth narratives using the setting and resources of the game world Since MMORPGs have so many elements in common, and those elements are experienced by so many people, a common all players, and this has led players of many games to expect "buffing" or "nerfing", which describe the strengthening or weakening, respectively, of particular game elements. ("Buffing" also refers to in-game effects that temporarily enhance performance; both usages come from a core meaning of increasing power levels.) As another example, in many older MMORPGs the fastest way to progress was simply by killing the same monsters over and over again, and as this is still common in the genre, all MMORPG players know the process as "grinding", or "camping" (sitting at a monster's spawn point in order to attack it as soon as it respawns). The importance of grinding in MMORPGs, and how much "fun" it contributes to the experience, is constantly debated. Many MMORPGs have taken steps to eliminate or reduce grinding. For example, in Tibia, a monster doesn't respawn if a player is near its spawn point. But few such attempts have met with success, and it is generally accepted by players and developers alike that some amount of 'grind' is required to maintain a stable playing experience. MMORPG addiction, which has been a source of concern for parents, also affects the culture.[citation needed] Some players might look down on those who invest huge amounts of time and or money into a game, while others might scorn those who can't put in the time to "play properly". The validity of such viewpoints is heavily debated, with both sides of the issue being discussed frequently on most games' forums. Most MMORPGs are deployed using a client–server system architecture. The server software generates a persistent instance of the virtual world that runs continuously, and players connect to it via client software. The client software may provide access to the entire playing world, or further 'expansions' may be required to be purchased to allow access to certain areas of the game. EverQuest and Guild Wars are two examples of games that use such a format. Players generally must purchase the client software for a one-time fee, although an increasing trend is for MMORPGs to work using pre-existing "thin" clients, such as a web browser. So, how EXACTLY is this NOT an MMO?????
  4. - Controls have been nothing but smooth to me. Perhaps it is something wrong on your end - Instanced? You mean the shards that keep everything at a manageable size so people can actually do their quests? No problems here. After all, IF I am on a different shard form my friends I can switch to that one. And the sharding decreases as the game goes on. - What is so terrible about the graphics? Seriously? - Recount is NOT a necessity. Unless you are one of thos epeople that need to post it after every run. Mods are not a necessity either. Most MMO's don;t allow them, so, if you cannot live without your Recount and Gearscore, go back to WoW. - Your opinion on companions is just that, an opinion. I and many others enjoy the companions and the additions they bring to a storyline - Your PVP stuff is a non-issue. - You mean a combat log? Again, not a necessity. Deal without it or move on - You mean the same loot system from every other MMO out there. WoW's class specific thing only came with Cata and actually dstill doesn;t work all the time. Also, with moddable gear, the WoW class specific thing won;t work because My Trooper can easily take a piece of moddable JC gear, remove the +str mods and put in +aim mods - Imagine that. You pick an Advanced Class and you have to play that AC. Dual Spec was a horrible idea in WoW and the travesty that is Rifts system is even worse. Learn to play your class - No LFG. We could use a global LFG Channel, yes. Randomd dungeon finder, no thanks. Get in a guild or actually TALK to people. Between friends and General chat, I don;t know anyone who has had trouble forming groups. In fact, I see msgs for the heroics in General even. - UI Issues have never been a issue for me, sorry, so, can;t comment. I used the default WoW UI form Vanilla through Cata and raided up till I quit after Firelands. So, can;t comment - No Target of Target. Would be nice but still a MINOR issue. As for your opinion on the placement of the targetting icon, again, your OPINION - I have found the map highly useful and have no problems with it. Again, your Opinion - I'll grant you the AH issue. It could use some reworing, but hey, the game is only 2 DAYS old. - I've seen 1 50 on my server. Then again, I could care less as I am too busy having a blast in this game Unlike you, I don;t find any of these issues to be issues of any significance. PErhaps you should just leave and got o another game? You are not going to convince us to join you no matter how many times you post this
  5. And I say good riddance to the EJ/AJ/WCM types. I had more than my fill of them in WoW, AOC, Rifts, etc. I'm here to play the game, have fun, and enjoy the story. Not get told to go to outside websites to learn 'how to play'
  6. He said Geeksquad and Computer Expert in the same sentence! Thats funny. Geeksquad is a JOKE. They offer next to no training to thier techs. So, having them look at your system does nothing. You bought the 2 year Geeksquad protection, so, you're stuck with that too. And FYI, my system has NO LAG. Quad Core AMD with 8GB Ram, ATI Radeon Video Card and Win 7 Home. So, it IS your system that is the problem, not the game. In fact, I know of no one who has had lag issues Perhaps it is your internet provider?
  7. You and 2 million other people are trying to play this game. This game is brand new. Queues are a part of any MMO launch. So, wait, be patient, and you will get to play
  8. Zul'jin Server here. Night Elf Hunter from day 1. Played that toon through TBC and then moved to Draenei Shammy 1/2 way through TBC into Cata. The queues were over an hour at launch of Vanilla, and for each xpac. I would routinely come home from work, log on, and go have dinner while in que. Perhaps it is you who was not around for Vanilla Launch. This game has been out for less than a day now. Chill out.
  9. My only problem with the hoods is my Twi'leks headband disappears when I get a piece of gear with a hood. Thank goodness for the modification system. Found modable gear I like and using mods to keep the stats equal or superior to blues at my level.
  10. If you are running Windows 7, you need to set Vent to run as Administrator. That fixes the issues
  11. No, there are no rewards for server firsts and Bioware has pretty much implied they do not plan on implementing any.
  12. For all of you saying the launch was fail and horrible, how so? Almost eveyone is in, with 4-5 days of access, and the remainder should be in shortly. Servers have been relatively stable. Queues are showing up, but that was to be expected Grace period from EGA to release has been instituted So, please, explain yourselves rather than shouting it's fail
  13. That follows with what I have found online. Thanks all
  14. OK, I love my Consular. Loved the class so much I played it in all three beta weekends I was in and am now just getting through to new quests. However, my first companion, Qyzen Fess, is confusing. He is a melee character. However, all his gear has AIM on it, a stat primarily for ranged classes. Should I start replacing his gear with Strength gear? what little about him I find online says no. Any recommendations?
  15. OMG. You people May include up to 5 days Early access means just what it says. You MAY get 5 days early access. You may get 4, you may get 1 They stated they were going to let people into EGA based on when they registered their preorder code. What do you fail to understand about first come first served?
  16. That has nothing to do with when you get into EARLY GAME ACCESS Like I said in my original Post. Lets say you are going to go see the Avengers movie this summer. You get to the theater 5 min before the movie starts. You walk into the theater and there is a line waiting to get tickets. You wait on this line, then after getting your ticket move to the line to be seated. You do not cut the line to get your ticket or the line to be seated, just because you have been anticipating the movie for as long as someone who has been there an hour already. First Come First Served means just what it says This was posted on the website and in the e-mail they sent letting people know about early access. It was on websites which covered SWTOR, from Massively to Darth Hater to Ask a jedi.
  17. Oh look, someone else believing the PVP Exploit Rumor. If you look under the Dev Tracker, they're already responded to that and stated it's a rumor. Also, as they did today, they will be bringing more servers online each day up through release on the 20th, so, you can always start fresh on a new PVP server
  18. What part of UP TO 5 days did you not understand?
  19. Yes, they were. I pre-ordered on the 22nd (had to wait a day to get paid). I got my e-mail about the pre-orders opening up on the 21st and it explained the first come first serve info, which is WHY I pre-ordered as soon as I could. It was on the Website, form Day 1 about pre-ordering. It was on Origin. If you didn;t bother to look it up, before you went to Best Buy or Amazon or whatever, thats your problem, not Bioware's
  20. Oh, look, a troll! And the other guy who is screaming and crying more than my 3yr old nephew does when he throws a tantrum has more right to state their opinion here than I do, why again?
  21. We were informed on Day 1 that EGA would be on a First Come First Serve Basis, based on when you REGISTERED your pre-order code. It is not Bioware's fault if you registered your code late, or Gamestop or Amazon or whoever didn;t get it to you till days or weeks later. If you go to see a movie, do you show up 5 min before it starts and demand to be seated before the people in front of you who have been waiting patiently to go to their seats? Now, I will concede that more information as to when everyone would be in would have been nice, however, as they explained, how many people get in in each wave is fluid, and depends on how stable the servers and such are. But, you decry, why didn;t they just let everyone in at once?!?!?!? Because they said they weren't going to do it that way, for one. As a second one, they didn;t want people to have to deal with stupidly long queues, server crashes, massive lag, and overcrowding of the starting zones. So, take a deep breath, relax, and when you get in, enjoy the game. Until you get in, chill out and stop crying like a 2 yr old.
  22. This is the launch of EARLY GAME ACCESS, not the Launch of the game. If it were the launch of the game I could go to Gamestop and buy a copy, go home, install it, and play. The LAUNCH is on the 20th
  23. In what way has the launch failed? Have the servers gone down? No Have they had to take the servers down and say no more access today? No Are the servers flooded with lag and disconnects? No Are they following their pre-launch schedule as advertised? Yes, except they gave us all 2 EXTRA days So, please, mister Whiner-Baby (gotta love Bruce Campbell), show me where they have failed
  24. Discussion? There is no discussion with people crying like my 3yr old nephew throwing a tantrum. Cuz that is all you people ************ and moaning about not getting in today are doing.
  25. OK, can people NOT READ??? From day one of the Pre-Orders opening up is stated clearly and in ENGLISH, that it was 5 days of EGA, with each person getting in determined by their Pre-Order Register date. If you cannot comprehend this, it is your fault. You were warned from day 1 of Pre-Ordering. And, they said they will be adding new servers each day, so, if the idea of being a lowbie on a PVP server scares you, make your character on one of the new ones
